Embarrasing question, but really need quick remedies...

Well, since Dawn already tried...I won't give my first answer.:rotfl:

Cabbage leaves are supposed to work. Good luck.

Congratulations on the baby!:woohoo:

Another vote for nursing! :thumbsup2

Is it too personal for me to ask why some women dont nurse?
Just curious... if it's too personal, sorry!
(Ive yet to come across anything too personal on the CB!) ;)

Cabbage leaves? Who knew?!!

VERY CUTE BABY!!!! :lovestruc

Not too personal, but not what the OP asked.

:thumbsup2 Cabbage leaves and advil. Worked like a charm....after about 24 hrs. of pure agony.

I agree very cute baby Congrats!!!! could we have the name and weight.

I vote for binding not too tight, but it does help alot.

I am chilled and not a cop, but Dad is retired from that profession. I'm not upset, but I guess you are now. Sorry, just answering a question.

ice packs on the bbs during the day while wearing a sports bra 24-7 helped me TREMENDOUSLY!! took 2-3 days to go down...good luck! and please don't let anyone make you feel like less of a mom for not nursing...

I was certainly NOT trying to make anyone feel anything! OMG! If my Q was taken that way I am so sorry!! No, no, no... not in a million years. I personally couldnt make enough milk so it was always painful and frustrating and my kids were half starved by the time the docs figured it out and I was simply curious what other reason were out there. OP, I hope you didnt take my Q that way.

That's why I answered the way I did. I didn't want to see this thread take that path. There are lots of reasons why one does not nurse. I planned on nursing with my first, but alot of things came to pass that made it way too hard on me and her, so we went to formula. I'm glad you weren't trying to take that path. As mothers we all just need to be there for one another.:goodvibes

Mastitis is an awful, worse-than-the-flu illness, so I would call my doctor and make sure you do everything right. I know about cabbage leaves, but a tight bra gave me Mastitis once (while breastfeeding, so it might not apply,) but I would be VERY careful!

Good luck and congrats!:lovestruc

I think I live in a hole sometimes. :headache:
I didnt realize that people insinuated that we could be less of anything for not nursing. Honestly, that is such boloney! That has NOTHING to do with what kind of love you give your baby! My babies liked formula more LOL! And they fattened up fast!
Sorry. I took it all the wrong way. :upsidedow

Anyway... HEY! ADORABLE BABY!! :flower3:

Can't you ask your doctor for something to stop the lactation? After I had my daughter, the doctor gave me pills to take for three days. I could not breastfeed and I never had a problem.

This is weird but it worked for me- buy a head of cabbage. Put a few leaves in each bra cup- change every hour or so. Weird but my midwife told me to do this.[/QUOT

When I had my oldest (17) they gave me a pill to dry up my milk but when I had my youngest (7), I called the dr because I was in so much pain. She said put some cold cabbage leaves on each breast and wrap them really tight. I thought she was crazy, well, lo and behold, it worked really good. The cold cabbage feels so good. Also, its time to change the cabbage leaves when you start smelling them. :lmao:

I also did the cabbage leaves. My doctor also told me to smash the big vein running up the middle of the leaf to help it release something that would help, too.

I gotta tell you, the smell of cabage always made me kind of :crazy2: But that blended with the smell of breastmilk would send me over the edge. If I ate cabbage in the first place, I wouldn't be able to after that!

OP: congratualations! party:

Wow, another thing I didn't know. I had no idea cabbage would help in this situation. After I had my boys, they just had me bind mine tight with my bra and an ace bandage 24/7.

I had never heard of the cabbage leaves either! And I'm a nurse:goodvibes They stopped with those pills because there were some serious side effects- I guess sometimes it's better to just let nature it's course! Congrats on the baby!:cheer2: And OP I tried nursing my 1st-she's 16 I couldn't stand it! So I didn't bother with the other 2. There was something that just gave me the willies about nursing! IDK- but nursing was not my cup of tea:confused3

I'm with cabbage leaves... mine hurt just remembering that pain!! YIKES!

Congrats!!!:woohoo:

This is correct, also the ice packs, advil, binding and no stimulation (not even water in the shower) to hit the breasts. Take the green leafy parts of the cabbage, the ones that are usually left in the produce section, and use those. They work the best. When they start to wilt, replace them.

They don't give that pill anymore because it seemed to increase your chance of a stroke.

Congrats on your baby.

i nursed both of mine until they were done and it seemed as if my milk dried up at about the same time........go figure :confused3

I have, however, heard about the cabbage leaves as well and since so many that have already posted have suggested them, give them a try and let us know how it goes!!
