Embarrasing question, but really need quick remedies...

OUCH!! I remember the pain too!!:scared1: And their hot to the touch too!!! DH called mine "volcanoes" I'm sure you can figure out why:rotfl2: Anyhoo, I wrapped them tight, took tylenol, and had ice packs stuck in there until they melted cuz of the heat! Took a few days, but it does get better!! Congrats on the beautifulbaby!!!

Oh, I can just re-feel the pain from when this happened to me! And we were nursing, so I was even able to relieve SOME of the pain! I don't have any advice for you since we did choose to nurse, but I do have to say that at one point I was thirsty and went to get a glass of milk. My husband grabbed the camera to take a picture (we took pictures of pretty much EVERYTHING those first few days) and now we have a photo of me with massive pornstarish girls squished into a tight t-shirt while I am holding up a glass of milk giving my husband cheers. Little did I know that the best slogan for the photo would be "Got milk?" HAHAHAHAHAH! Oh, it is just so funny to look at now that everything has gone back to normal. They were friggin HUGE and it was perfect timing for a photo. :rotfl:

Congrats on your baby!

In addition to the cabbage, try eating things with peppermint and sage.

Also I think some cold medications contain something that will help dry it up.

Do a quick Google search -- there's lots out there.

I pumped exclusively for DS for 5 /12 months, and was lucky -- only had to do one "relief" pump about a day and a half after I stopped and that was it.

LOL!

I'm going to go out and get the cabbage and sports bras today. The bras that I have all have underwires in them, and because they do not fit they leave these terrible indentions.

I did the ice pack thing this morning at 3 a.m. while watching "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo" and it didn't help. Well, maybe it was the movie. It was awful. They need better programming on that early in the morning! ;)

Can't you ask your doctor for something to stop the lactation? After I had my daughter, the doctor gave me pills to take for three days. I could not breastfeed and I never had a problem.

I did ask in the hospital and my OB and the nurses all said that they do not (or maybe would not?) give out medication for this anymore. Instead, they gave me a sheet of paper pretty much stating to keep hot water off of my chest and zero stimulation.

My older children I was given the medication, but sadly they stopped giving it out around the time my 4th was born. Be glad, I just ended up dizzy all the time and felt like crap.

My dr also recommended the cabbage leaves and wrap to be worn continuously for 24 hours. It always helped. I will tell you I was also advised to watch my fluid intake. My dd was born in July..the hottest one on record. I was drinking day and night. When the cabbage and binding were helping, they were not fixing my problem, the dr said that I should also cut down on those fluids and within 24 hours was back to good.

Mastitis is an awful, worse-than-the-flu illness, so I would call my doctor and make sure you do everything right. I know about cabbage leaves, but a tight bra gave me Mastitis once (while breastfeeding, so it might not apply,) but I would be VERY careful!

Good luck and congrats!:lovestruc

This is so true! So make sure it's not so tight that you end up sick! I stopped nursing my daughter a month before we left for WDW and ended up with the worst mastitis! Luckily, I got it cleared up about 1 1/2 weeks before we left. Once again, good luck and your baby is just beautiful! He was big boy! :thumbsup2
