Electrical Water Pageant

Let's everyone cool off a little, shall we? It's just a harmless little debate, okay?

- I know Val a little bit away from these boards, and can honestly say she's a very nice person, and not some "class warrior". She was merely speaking about one post that seemed, to her, a little snobby.

- I, too, love Tikiman's website, and have used it to help plan our Poly trips in the last few years. I also appreciate his constant advice on all things Poly on this board as well. I was glad to see him migrate, along with some others like me, from Intercot to here. Maybe he's still on there as well, but at least here he can engage in debates with people without the mods shutting them down too early. Sometimes, though, that means that threads get WAY off-topic and a bit out of control, like this one.

I don't know Steve outside these boards or his website, but I don't think he's a snob, and none of his posts lead me to believe that either. Val was merely reacting to one post, and not the person.

Let's not be so personal, based on a little thread that has turned into a big thread about economics for some reason.

I'm willing to bet Val and Steve aka Tikiman would be buds in real life, and could have a very civil debate on resort guests of all classes. ;)

I do apologize if my post came across harsher and more offensive than intended. However, please keep in mind I never called anyone any names!

I will gladly bow out of this thread now. :)

Edited: thanks, John! :teeth:

Well I did post something...but reread the thread...and what i wrote made no sense :rotfl2:
So anyway...Val...don't worry...I see your point..and admire your stance...And Tikkiman...Iam sure you didn't mean anything negative...I think your posts are very helpful and love your web site.
Things do get heated sometimes but wires can get crossed.

A comment to the OP, why not head over to Fort Wilderness for the evening? They have a great all you can eat buffet and you have a great view of both the electrical parade and wishes. The beach there is peaceful and there are beach chairs all over the place. I know the camping folks are always pleasant. :cool1: (can you tell that FW is my favorite resort!?) There is plenty of room for all!! :sunny:

So you're saying that I am to be the downfall of society
Huh? I don't remember saying anything about you specifically. What are you referring to?

Also, forgive me, but I don't understand why you say I'm mistaken when I say that if Disney wants to give special perks all over their property, then they should track how much money people spend all over their property.
That was correct; you said that they couldn't do that. You're mistaken.

I just think you could be a little less harsh.
I'm sorry you interpret my honesty and directness as "harshness". I suppose you'd find Dr. Phil and Dr. Laura harsh as well. I'm sorry it bothers you.

I did not intend to be speaking for you since I don’t know where you eat but are you suggesting that a majority of people staying at a value resort are not eating at the resort most of the time or even if they are eating other places do you think they are taking the family to the California Grill or Flying Fish on a regular basis? I am sure many are but my guess it that this is not the majority. Also you are right that most people staying at the Polynesian are not paying $550 but $320 is not an easy rate to get. Lets still use that as an example though so you stay 5 nights at a rate of $320, with a total of $1600 they are still spending more than the value person for 20 nights. I am not going to get into details like you get two rooms and where you eat because the truth is that most deluxe resort stays are not 5 nights. I was just trying to help make the gap not look so big and go by your example. Now you just want to prove your point we could say you have 4 rooms at a value and you go 30 days a year and eat at every expensive sitdown place in WDW and by $2000 worth of items at the stores and than you could come up with a larger total but that is not very realistic now is it? What is realistic is someone at a Deluxe spending over $5000 for a week at WDW for room and food and gifts. How many families that stay at a value resort spend that on vacation in a year? Do you still believe that argument is valid? If so than I will argue no further.

By the way I don’t see people for what they have and how much they make but businesses do.
Wow Poly for $320 what a bargain! I'm paying $411 and that's Garden view and not Concierge either. My friend is paying over $600 for a week at GF. Also we stay 9-10 days also not 5. We go WDW every year and like to stay deluxe so we can enjoy our family vacation. I would be annoyed if I couldn't find a seat on the beach or by the pool because peolple from other resorts are using them, that's not fair. We eat at all the nice places and yes we spend alot in the stores on the kids and things for our house. Needless to say we spend over $6500 for 9 days at the Poly. OTHERS THAT STAY CONCIERGE SPEND MUCH MORE THAT THAT FOR A WEEKS VACATION

Hiho Poly Fans,
My family and I started out at the All-Stars. We stayed there (Music) twice. We then decided to go up the ladder a notch to see what the moderates were like, so we visited CBR. We like the carribean atmosphere, although I stepped on a snake there. They were very nice to us there during our visit and we could not wait to stay there. I started reading Tikiman's posts and visiting his website and during the next CBR vacation we went to the Poly to eat at Kona's. Everyone was very nice to us (the staff at Kona's and the shops) and we did watch the fireworks from the beach. We did not even know about this until our waitress told us about it. We fell in love with the POLY once we saw the longhouses, the grounds, the beach, and the launch to MK. We have stayed at the Poly ***TEN*** times since and could not imagine staying anywhere else. I have to ask one question - What would have happened if a cm or another guest told us no or get lost?

I truly love the Poly and I tell anyone interested in WDW about THE DIS. I hope they skip this post. See you the third week in June Poly fans!

Great post! :thumbsup2

Could someone possibly explain to me why this thread is still going on?? This is truly insane. If it doesn't bother the officials at Disney World that (gasp!) "outsiders" go and watch the fireworks or the boat parade from the shores of the Poly, why in God's name are you guys getting so worked up over it?? You DO NOT own the Poly, now get over yourselves. Now, if they were camping out in your room to watch them, you have the right to gripe...but they are not.

there's also plenty of room for all that the polynesian, too. i hope the op doesn't get put off by tikiman. he can get rather rabid in his defense of the polynesian. ;)

to the op...go to the polynesian. have a drink at the pool bar and watch the light parade. no one working there will bat an eyelash. there are plenty of non-guests who stay on the beach after the luau or dinner at ohana/kona. :wave2:

 Whatever. If you had a PHD and used constructive critisism then I would not think your replies were so harsh. You just have a way of putting people down.....not constructive at all.

My Mom also taught me to stand up for what you believe and always support your family and friends. I consider many people on the Dis to be friends..therefore, I will not insult them and I will back them up if I feel they are being wronged.

I don't put anyone down. I comment on conduct, not people. I also consider many people on the DIS to be friends, and remarkably they don't feel insulted when I disagree with them.

You don't like my messages. Please feel free to ignore them.

You comment on everything and I do like some of your messages. I find some of your messages to be informative and others just over kill and harsh. I have a right to my opinion as do you. ;)

It's attitude like this that keeps me on the Community Board 99% of the time!!

@@ Give me a break. I didn't even bother to continue reading all of these posts. For those of you who don't like it when non-poly people visit, it's really very simple: don't stay there. :thumbsup2 As long as Disney policy allows this to happen, there is nothing that you can do about it. So, stop your whining! :lmao:

I can't help adding my 2pennies (just figuratively you wealthy polies!) I have stayed at the poly and Love it. I have stayed just about everywhere at DW and love everywhere. I have never seen the electrical pageant "sold out" with no room for people. I'm not saying its impossible but I've been once or twice yearly :confused3 since 1971! Tolerance for others "less fortunate" is probably ok with DW. I've actually rented 6 rooms at POP for 11 days with ressies everyday at very nice restaurants and spent much more money than I should have. I've also pitched a tent and grilled my own food and paid 35 at Ft. Wilderness. I'm the same person in deluxe as I am in value. If the official policy is to give perks to folks who already have perks then I, for one, am against it. If the beach is packed shoulder to shoulder at Poly and a Poly person can't squeeze in then it is time to have a public beach roped off. Just my opinion.

Hmmm. Well, I think the Polynesian beach is going to be very popular with me next holidays ;)

By the way, if Disney institutes such a ridiculous plan then they ought to shove it where the sun doesn't shine. There's enough elitism in this country, why spread it even further in Disneyworld? It's time to give the Ivory Tower a rest every now and again.
