Thanks for calling Cindy, but did you mention those that are patronizing the hotel in the way of dining/shopping ? I've actually been encouraged by Poly CM's to go to the beach.......given directions and all........people book a dinner at the CA Grill in hopes of watching the fireworks from a special viewing area. Disney doesn't seem to discourage this. I do agree there must be occasions for abuse, but who's to say if those towels left on the grass were left there by a Poly guest or non ???? I think Poly guests and non can be rude and disrespectful.

That's fine that you feel my statement was ridiculous Tikiman, but I respectfully disagree. A person who stays at the AS for 20 nights out of the year vs a person who stays at the Poly for 5 nights out of the year has LOTS more opportunity for spending in the wdw complex alone. I'm thinking they provide disney with increased revenue for meals, shopping, and theme park admission etc. If you're vacationing for 3 weeks, that alot more food & park admission alone you'd have ----all inside disney's complex, vs only 5 nights of dining/park admission for the Poly guest. I think a value guest can quite conceivably equal more in revenue for disney over the course of a year depending on amount of stays. Your analogy of the plane reservations was well taken.....but we're talking disney here. A icon that has prided itself on customer service and treating all it's guests equally. Bicker made a statement about offsite guests.....but I was only referring to onsite guests in this discussion. I think drawing different lines/policies inside the theme parks for the onsite guests will be quite noticeable to all and I feel that would be a mistake on disney's part. I think those that continue to be able to afford deluxe will do so and there is still a very large percentage who will never be able to afford more than value/mod despite the teasers disney might plan to offer up. But how those value/mod guests feel when they see a rumored plan such as the FP one, will stick with them for a long time and help to form a different picture of disney and how they perceive disney values them in the long run. I could see loss of repeat and loyal customers down the lane, so a policy like the FP one might just be a washout for disney.

For the record, I'm a DVC Member so it's not even like I'll be affected much by a proposed policy like this. My most recent stays were at OKW, BWV and VWL (I did stay at POP with some friends last year as well because that is where they wanted to stay). I just feel for those that willl be affected.

My apologize. I should not have used the word ridiculous. I just don’t think it is a good argument. I did not intend to offend you for having that opinion.

I am not going to compare totals because my intent is not to brag or discuss what I spend at Disney even if I only go for 10 days a year, but I have been on the other end of that spending where we stayed off site and never did a sit-down restaurant so I do know how the numbers compare as I am sure others do.

I can respect your opinion though.

I do have a problem with people that seem to have prove their points over and over and over again on the resort boards, transportation boards, restaurant boards etc.
I'm a member of this community -- a community made up of discussion boards. If you don't want to discuss things, then don't. I'm not forcing you to respond. You even have the option to ignore any users who you don't wish to see messages from.

...and really do not seem to care of how their statements may hurt someone.
You mean like you're doing right now? Good thing I have a thicker skin.

Bravo! Point very well made. There is a lot of discussion about what is in the best interests of Disney's bottom line, but not enough about what is in the best interests of the guests.
There is a good reason for that: The former actually drives what happens in reality, while the latter only drives up unfounded expectations. There's truly nothing wrong with people wishing things were different, but there is a very significant cost to society when people begin expecting things to be different, solely because it would be good for them personally.

Wow I never realized how low the prices were now on the Values.

So how is it that 20 nights at a rate of $79 a night value season (comes to $1580) is spending more than our room at the Polynesian value season for 5 days at a rate of $550 (comes to $2750) even if we usually stay 10 nights, is spending more on Disney? And if you think that eating at a value resort or counter service is also going to equal dinners at a Deluxe or as a sit down restaurant than I am sure someone can come up with those numbers. This is why I don’t think the argument fits, besides the fact that the value person gets to stay and enjoy the free things for that much longer.

So you're saying that I am to be the downfall of society just because I *expect* Disney to continue treating their onsite guests with equal respect and consideration (which is what they have always done in the past?)

Also, forgive me, but I don't understand why you say I'm mistaken when I say that if Disney wants to give special perks all over their property, then they should track how much money people spend all over their property. (Rather than base it just on how much one is spending for accommodations alone). I said that would be impossible to track.... which it is under the current system. So why am I mistaken? Or do you just disagree? There's a difference. ;)

Well, you see.... "value people" aren't actually confined to their resorts, are they? I can tell you that when we stayed in two rooms at Pop for 11 nights, we ate at table service restaurants 2-3 times a day for all 12 days.

Plus, surely you're not assuming that everyone who stays at deluxe resorts pays $550 a night. The average rate is closer to $320-$450.

First thing....nothing was said to intentionally hurt your feelings. Get over yourself.

Second, while I have not read all 10 pages of this nonsense, do you realize you are arguing over something that hasn't happened yet! Don't worry about things til you have too...it will cause your hair to fall out!!

Third....at least I now know you're a guy!! :surfweb:

That's a great point. I had almost forgotten that myself. :rotfl:

THAT hurt your feelings??? My Mom always told us girls...."the truth hurts."

You seem to be able to make many people here feel small...intentially or not. I just think you could be a little less harsh..that's all...but I quess that is your choice. I choose not to make people feel small. I obviously do not stand alone in my views....many people seem offended by your lact of compassion. :confused3

Maybe Poly resort guests should get special glasses upon check-in. These glasses would allow them to see some extra-special 3D effect with the EWP (hey, I had to put EWP in here to nominally stay on-topic), and also Wishes. The dragon on the EWP could "bite" at you, or Tinkerbelle from Wishes could be magnified and come up and kiss you on the cheek. This way, those who don't stay at the Poly, but come to the beach to watch these things, could have just a little less magic than those who paid to stay at the Poly, no matter if they spend all kinds of money with Disney in other ways than just their choice of vacation lodging.

And when Poly guests enter the parks, these glasses could show magical things that others can no longer see, such as a virtual Skyway, 20,000 Leagues or Mr. Toad.

Okay, I'm being facetious and ridiculous with the above, of course. But, to me, that sounds no less obnoxious than this FastPass proposal.

I did not intend to be speaking for you since I don’t know where you eat but are you suggesting that a majority of people staying at a value resort are not eating at the resort most of the time or even if they are eating other places do you think they are taking the family to the California Grill or Flying Fish on a regular basis? I am sure many are but my guess it that this is not the majority. Also you are right that most people staying at the Polynesian are not paying $550 but $320 is not an easy rate to get. Lets still use that as an example though so you stay 5 nights at a rate of $320, with a total of $1600 they are still spending more than the value person for 20 nights. I am not going to get into details like you get two rooms and where you eat because the truth is that most deluxe resort stays are not 5 nights. I was just trying to help make the gap not look so big and go by your example. Now you just want to prove your point we could say you have 4 rooms at a value and you go 30 days a year and eat at every expensive sitdown place in WDW and by $2000 worth of items at the stores and than you could come up with a larger total but that is not very realistic now is it? What is realistic is someone at a Deluxe spending over $5000 for a week at WDW for room and food and gifts. How many families that stay at a value resort spend that on vacation in a year? Do you still believe that argument is valid? If so than I will argue no further.

By the way I don’t see people for what they have and how much they make but businesses do.

Also you are right that most people staying at the Polynesian are not paying $550 but $320 would be a very difficult and unusual amount to get for even a standard garden view room. Lets still use that as an example though so you stay 5 nights at a rate of $320, with a total of $1600 they are still spending more than the value person for 20 nights. I think you've got a really whacked view on "value resort guests" is what I think. Why *wouldn't* they eat at the Flying Fish or California Grill? What, do you think they wouldn't be able to find a collared shirt and loafers amongst their blue collar, greased stained coveralls? I'm sorry, but I hope you realize how completely stuck up your post sounded. (I don't know you, so I'm not saying you're that way in real life, but geez read your post again!)

I think I'm done here.

I said I was done making judgements about re-using mugs, beach access to non resort guest, etc, etc, etc, and I'm keeping my word. But what you have said to Steve "Tikiman" is out of line and uncalled for. I have been a regular viewer of Steve's website for over 3 years now and have read many of his posts. He has done nothing but help people over the years and been very kind with his own time and money. Shame on you again for playing the Class warfare card and be insulting to him like that. Quit playing the "more money than I have game" and be civil. How did this thread turn into this and why?

He built his own fan website with his own money and time and never asked for anything in return and I never seen him have cross words with anyone. Do you want him to leave these boards and take all of his valuble advice and website with him? Would that make you happy? Maybe you should make a website of your favorite resort and become an expert on it and then see all the grief you will recieve. You need to take a hard look at yourself and see why you're so bitter about this issue. Don't be mean to people who live a different lifestyle than you do or make different choices than you would. It's wrong and this isn't what this website is about. :furious:

Well I apologized for my ridiculous remark because I felt it was inappropriate and I don’t come in here to name call but if it makes you feel better than be my guest. You can take any impression you choose from my posting but if you slow down and read it carefully you will see it is not stuck up in any way. You had an example for your argument and I was pointing out how I did not feel it was legitimate. Can you cut and paste where I said value resort guests can’t and never eat at those places? No you can’t? well that would be because I did not say that. In fact I asked a question. I did not make a statement in any way. I asked if you thought that most guests at those resorts ate at places like that on a regular basis? So instead of answering me you decide to call my posting wacked and I am stuck up for posting the argument. Well that is one way to try and prove your point.

I said I was done with this thread, but I guess I lied. ;)

Did you read where I said I have no idea how he is in real life but that his POST sounded snobby? I don't think I said tikiman was an evil or horrible person, did I?

Are you assuming that I am being mean to tikiman because he "lives a different lifestyle" than I do? What does that mean? I've stayed at the Poly numerous times, myself.

And, you are giving me far more credit than I deserve if you think that *I* actually have the power to insult someone so much that they would leave a message board because of something I say.

Although it would be very, very, cool if I did have that kind of power here! :teeth:

i did not take tikiman's post to say that value guests don't EVER go to california grille and restaurants of the like. he said on a "regular basis"

i stay at deluxes and mods most of the time and i don't go to those upscale restaurants, i don't like them. i like to spend my $ on resorts and not fancy meals. some may like to stay a lower priced resorts and spend more on meals and souvies. people have different priorities when on vaca.

He actually did leave these boards last year about this time and retired his website for awhile over petty nonsense like this. A lot of members here on these boards were really upset about that and I was one of them. He was kind enough to bring back his website and share his vast knowledge. He doesn't do it for ego or fame, he does it because he loves/enjoys the Polynesian like a lot of Poly lovers do. So lets lighten up here and stop with blue collar/white collar, class warfare nonsense. It's very un Disneylike and has no place on a Disney fan website.
