Can you park ecv's at the curb to watch the parade. My very sick sister wants to see the Christmas parade one last time but she can't sit on the curb and we heard that they have abolished disability sections for the parades.

If you don't get a response here, you may want to try over in the DISabilities forum.

Well I was going to tell you that they have a section saved for this, but I haven't heard anything about them doing away with it. Where did you hear this from?

Hopefully this isn't the case, because I can't see them expecting the people in ECV's to drive down a sidewalk and park it there, or expect them to get out and try to sit or stand to see the parade. I know at the MK there was a section around the hub just for this purpose.

Good luck in getting an answer, see you down there! Looks like we'll be down at the same time :Pinkbounc

Thanks for your replies. I just realized that I said "ecv parade" and after all the threads about too many ecv's I bet a lot of people get a jolt when they see that!! :rotfl:

When we were there in August, they had a section roped off by the LTT that was wheelchair and ECV only. We watched both the afternoon parade and the evening parade from that spot. I am sure there are other locations but I am sure of this one.

When I visited in October, I know there were definitely sectioned off places to watch the parade in AK.

I saw a person in an ecv parked on the sidewalk facing the street last night for the parade at MK. I don't see why she couldn't do that as long as you got to the spot early. There were plenty of strollers parked on the sidewalk edge facing the street. What's the difference?

:rotfl: "a parade of ecvs" is exactly what i thought and figured if it were true there are way to many !:rotfl:

Thank you!!!That's exactly what I want her to do. I want her to see down main street and be in the snow and it to be exactly perfect. I'm so obsessive I might just save a spot at 5!!! :Pinkbounc

The handicapped viewing spots are marked on the park maps.
When it is busy, they may limit entry into those areas to the person with a disability plus one other person. And, you usually have to get there early to get a spot.
We usually just park DD's wheelchair at the curb. She doesn't like the "confined" feeling of being inside the roped off handicapped area.

Thanks to all. My sister just received a brochure from DW for disabled and it said that there were no more spots for handicapped to watch parades. Too many people were abusing them I guess.

I was at the parade Nov. 29th and the lady next to me was using an ecv. There didn't seem to be any restrictions. I was standing at the beginning of Main Street right after the circle.

I hope your sister gets to see the parade. It really seemed to put everyone in a happy holiday mood.

Here's what it says in the official WDW website version of the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities:
Parade Route and Show Areas

Parade routes and some show areas have designated viewing areas for Guests with disabilities. These areas are provided for Guest comforts and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests should plan to arrive early, as space is limited. Be advised that most areas along our parade routes are accessible to guests with disabilities. Due to Guest demand, viewing spaces cannot be reserved or guaranteed. Parties larger than six will be asked to separate and reunite afterwards. Guest Relations can provide information on show times and other special events on the day of each visit.
They don't have a "reviewed date" on the website page , but the language about not being able to reserve and that parties larger than 6 would be asked to split up was pretty recently added.
The individual pages for each park on the website don't mention the parade viewing areas, but they are marked on the park maps.

I was just there on Saturday and watched Spectromagic. They definitely had an area reserved for wheelchairs and EVC's across from Liberty Tree Tavern. I also saw a reserved area for Illuminations in Epcot.
