EBPC December 9, 2012!!! PART 2

Po Folks use to be about a 1/2 mile from Knott's. Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland aren't more than 7 or 8 miles apart. Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant is the best! There are a bunch of shops off of the main street (Beach Blvd) in front of Knott's and a few restaurants. They only take reservations for groups of 12 or more but you can go for lunch or dinner and they also take to go orders. They have a great breakfast too! You won't be disappointed! I'm so hungry now just thinking about it.

This reminds me of a story. I recently arrived in SoCal about 27 years ago. One night we dined at Shakey's Pizza and I was surprised to see fried chicken. So to bring a little humor to the workplace the next day, I asked a co-worker we he would go for fried chicken. Expecting a response like KFC, he said Knotts. To put this in perspective, Knotts was about a 45 min drive from my work location at the time. I was floored as I didn't expect that. Unbeknownst to me, he commuted from Buena Park to work every day so Knotts was just as close to him as KFC, and Shakey's was to me.

Anyway, DL Plaza Inn does have some fine fried chicken and mighty fine portions. The Carnation Cafe is open again with indoor seating. They make a mighty fine meatloaf.

I just can't imagine that California folks know how to make a really good fried chicken like we do down here in the south. :)

We're getting a cab to the port - I'll probably walk to a liquor store about a half mile away. Any tips? I don't want to make the kids wait in a cab while I shop.

In California almost every store sells liquor/beer/wine. I mean EVERY store. It does vary a little by county, but in Orange County every Target, Walmart, grocery store, CVS, Rite Aid -even 7/11.

Liquor is not hard to come by.

I am starting to like CA more and more! It is so hard to buy booze in PA. When I was in college, I was lucky enough to have a CC that my parents gave me to use on groceries. The nearby grocery store sold booze and my bill might have always included some. My parents would always comment on the cost of food in WV. Well when they came for my graduation, they went to the store and my Dad pulled me aside and said "well played, since I was paying for your liquid diet, I hope it was at least the good stuff"
Yum! I'm the Malibu Rum and Diet Coke person in our family. :woohoo:

If any of you do need groceries, Vons.com has a delivery service - you could try them. I believe you do need to be present to receive alcohol though. There's also a Target down the street, with a couple of turns (less than 5 minutes from the Port), for last minute purchases. But, I don't think they carry hard liquor...but they have pretty much everything else. Also, if you have a car, Total Wine is an awesome store, and has a huge inventory of alcohol.

Malibu Rum and Diet Coke is my favorite!!!!
We have Total Wine here in DE and I am in LOVE! I call it Toys R Us for adults. DH limits my trips there because I can never leave without spending at least $100. So much I wanna try....

I just can't imagine that California folks know how to make a really good fried chicken like we do down here in the south. :)

I had the same thought!

Oh, and directly across Main Street in Disneyland is a little coffee store called Market House. They are the only place in DL that gives free refills for coffee. Keep your receipts, and throughout the day you can come back in to the Market House, and they'll give you free refills. Not such a good tip in July, but in December :thumbsup2 .

I won't argue with that. I took my Girl Scout troop to Savannah, Georgia last summer and went to The Lady and Sons (Paula Deen's Restaurant) for dinner. Can I say 4 words: Chicken, Potatoes and Peach Cobbler. :cloud9: It was so good, I would fly back there just for dinner if it was in the budget. :rotfl: We never had a bad meal the whole time we were there.

Hello everyone
We are on this forum for the first time for this cruise. I would like to introduce us: myself (Nancy) and my 8 year old daughter (Nancy-Paris). We are from Mississauga, Ontario Canada (beside Toronto)

This is our 6th Disney cruise, although we have cruised with other liners as well. We are extremely happy to tell everyone that Disney is like other.

Just having visited your forum, I see an excursion in Costa Maya was organized. Is it possible to add in 1 adult, 1 child as well with your group?

Thank you and I look forward to meeting you all!:yay:

I meant to say " Disney is like no other cruiseline " Sorry. (I am just too excited!!):lmao:

BF and I will definitely not be joining you guys. :( Flying back to England is not what we wanted to do but it has to be done. I am so upset - we had no insurance so it's just a huge loss money wise too. Ugh. Today we will be calling DCL and definitely cancelling.

I am so sorry to hear that but family comes first! Take care.

We call it the Peoples Republic of Pennsylvania! We are always a little suprised when we travel out of state, go to a grocery store ,round the corner and see beer and wine.
Oh yes and I do like Malibu but prefer Parrot Bay. I will def have some with me. But to me it isn't a cruise unless I have some Baileys in the room to add to my morning room service coffee. Its the little things......

Well we're not in the south. If we were, we would be dining on pulled pork with a vinegar and mustard-based BBQ sauce. :worship:

Let's agree that the fried chicken at the places we've mentioned are probably the best you'll find west of the Rockies. :thumbsup2

It's too close to lunchtime here to be writing this...

Hi Everyone!

I am completely out of the loop as I haven't been following the thread in a while. What pertinent facts should I know, any scheduled meets that I need to my calendar?

Now is the time to panic!

When I lived in Virginia about 30 years ago, they had "blue laws" where there were restrictions on what you could by on Sundays. One of the restrictions was hardware. To combat this, drug stores (Dart Drug, at the time) started selling hardware. In fact, I bought my first lawn mower there. The state caught on and made the drug stores put tape around those sections to prohibit shopping for those items. Virginia still has ABC stores.

While working for a government agency at this same time in Virginia, around McLean, I had to attend meetings at the FBI building in DC. We were able to park in the atrium area and after the meetings were over, we would take our shopping list to the local liquor store around the corner from the FBI and make our purchases. Then we stuffed the liquor in the trunk of our gov't car and drove back to VA. Slightly illegal but what the hay.. :rolleyes1

Best tip ever! I love my coffee, though the nephew might limit me to reduce bathroom breaks.

HAHA:rotfl2: Peoples Republic of Pennsylvania, that made my day!

And Baileys in am coffee, I LOVE the way you think! This is how I start my mornings every time I tailgate.....

Another fan here for Malibu Rum! But I add mine to pineapple juice...make it a fuity drink for me. When we were in concierge on a mexican riviera cruise, at the reception, that is what I drank, but they didn't have a name for it, so my DS named it the Crazy Porcupine...the name has stuck so whenever we are with our friends who were with us, we always have some Crazy Porcupines! I will be bringing some of that with me this cruise. But I will have to try it with Diet Coke...never crossed my mind before, so I am excited to try it.

Does anyone need an over-the-door shoe organizer for their stateroom? I bought one for our last cruise and never used it. Would love to get rid of it and I'm too cheap to throw it away.

Welcome aboard! I am going on the group excursion in Costa Maya, but I think it might be too late to join as we all sent in deposits. However, you could go to their website (I think this is it, if not, someone please correct me... http://www.thenativechoice.com/mayan_experience.php and maybe sign up directly with them. Just a thought.
