GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!



There's an ABC Store near the corner of Harbor and Katella, about a 10 minute walk from the Disney hotels and virtually next door to Candy Cane Inn. They not only have alcohol, but also snacks and souvenirs for much less expensive than on property.

Thanks! we plan to rest on Thursday and go to the Parks Fri and Saturday. SO we can head over there Thurs. We also want to check out downtown Disney. we didn't get over there last time we were there. The only other place we wanted to go was Po Folks, but it has since closed. So no fried chicken this trip. my dad was so jealous last time, we called him from there and he tried to order food.

I want to know as well. we were going to get some, but won't have a car now. Any walking distance places near Disney Land? I thought about getting a box of wine, classy. And a bottle or rum to add to cokes. We aren't huge drinkers. I usually add my one to Diet Rite White Grape, but Sprite may have to work.

We will be making a run to the store on Friday night and we have a car. We could always A) pick you up and take you with us (if you will get into a car with strangers!, we will bring candy) B) you send us a list and we will pick it up and drop it off at your hotel or at the port.
Or you can enjoy the walk! We will also be classin' it up with a box of wine! though my sister will be buying the nicer stuff for her.

Funny off-topic side story: My Dad was an executive at a candy company (now owned by Michael Eisner) and when the internet became big, he had is IM name and email address set-up as Candyman and couldn't figure out why everyone thought it was creepy.

Interesting. Will have to go check. I would love it if they extended our port time, so we have time to do more than just the Canopy Adventure. Previously, the excursion was listed as 15min prior to port time, which I thought was weird.

Edit: Yep, our excursion is now at 9:15, when previously it was 10:15. I always wondered why our port time was so short when we don't have far to go overnight from Cabo.

DH pointed out on Monday that our SCUBA excursion for Costa Maya was changed from 8:15am to 9:15am. Guess they are changing times?

So I overslept this morning and didn't get up till 7! I will admit, it felt good, I might have to try it on the cruise! I almost flipped out since I am at my desk by 7 but then I saw a post-it on my phone from DH that he had turned off my alarm and both he and my boss agreed I needed to sleep in and that whenever I got to work was fine. It was sweet of them but both of them know I have to much to do instead of sleeping in!!

It was busy at the landfill yesterday, close to 500 trucks inspected, weighed and logged! We had a truck driver lose an eye onsite. The bunge cord hook on his truck snapped and caught him in the eye! He wasn't wearing the proper PPE as safety glasses are required onsite. It was a mess and there will be lots of paperwork!

I am keeping a little notebook with me and I am adding stuff to it everytime I think of something. Added yesterday:

If you are doing the canpoy adventure: You might want to bring a bandanna to wear under the provided helmets. Most places won't let you wear a hat under the helmet and I do not like my head touching equipment that isn't mine as you can't be sure they spray the helmets for lice and the pads absorb so much sweat.

Also: If you donate blood, try and fit in one last donation before you leave as you wouldn't be able to donate for a year after.

I just looked at our reservation and it looks like we got the private dining room for brunch on Dec. 13...but should I be concerned that it only says me and not DH? BTW, thanks Julie for getting it for us! It will be so much fun. Oh, and it finally remembers that we are debarking in Miami, not Galveston!

I logged in to see if I was included in the group brunch reservation, and I'm not (which is what I thought, but didn't want to be surprised later), BUT our original reservation for Palo Brunch is no longer on the website! WTHeck Disney! Thankfully I was able to book a new one (have no idea when I booked the last one) for the morning after Pirate Night. We'll probably be the only ones up on the ship at 10 am.

If you have access to a car, Knotts Berry Farm is about 30 mins away from DL and you really can beat Mrs. Knotts Chicken Dinner Restaurant.

That's our drink - rum and coke. Did you know that rum and coke is the most popular mixed drink in the US.

Are there duty free liquor stores in Cabo and PV near the port? There was a really great one in Cozumel right at the end of the pier. It will really cut down on the bottles I have to carry on the ship in LA. Sherry

There are a number of liquor stores near the port area in both places. Duty free? I dunno.

Yum! I'm the Malibu Rum and Diet Coke person in our family.

If any of you do need groceries, Vons.com has a delivery service - you could try them. I believe you do need to be present to receive alcohol though. There's also a Target down the street, with a couple of turns (less than 5 minutes from the Port), for last minute purchases. But, I don't think they carry hard liquor...but they have pretty much everything else. Also, if you have a car, Total Wine is an awesome store, and has a huge inventory of alcohol.

Regarding the fried chicken - Plaza Inn on Main Street in Disneyland has a really good fried chicken dinner. I believe the quality of Knott's has slipped, and Disney's chicken has caught up with them. If you do venture out to Knotts, be prepared to wait in line, usually an hour or more, to be seated.

We're bringing a bunch of magazines to read too, actually to catch up on reading. We'll drop them off at the library exchange on deck 6 (can't remember the stateroom number at the moment).

Po Folks use to be about a 1/2 mile from Knott's. Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland aren't more than 7 or 8 miles apart. Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant is the best! There are a bunch of shops off of the main street (Beach Blvd) in front of Knott's and a few restaurants. They only take reservations for groups of 12 or more but you can go for lunch or dinner and they also take to go orders. They have a great breakfast too! You won't be disappointed! I'm so hungry now just thinking about it.

So sorry to hear this. At least be sure to ask Disney if they can do anything for you as far as a credit for a future sailing. It never hurts to ask and might take the sting out of the money lost a bit if you know you have a credit for a future sailing. Good luck to your mom on her recovery.

Wow... that's crazy. It reminds you how quickly life can change forever from one small little thing.

I had noticed some weird stuff for the PV stop as well. The DCL site lists the port time as 10:30am - 3:30pm, but the Banderas Bay Snorkeling trip is listed as 10:45am - 3:45pm... getting us back to the ship late? They definitely must be adjusting something from the regular MR port times to our port times.

Just went to check things for PV since I wasn't really happy with the excursion I had booked. I found that the Pirate Boat Sail & Snorkel Adventure is showing up now as an option. That was what I originally wanted, but it seemed like they weren't offering it on our sailing due to the shortened time in port. I went ahead and changed to it - hopefully it'll stick! I know some other people mentioned looking at that one too, so you might want to grab it if it's showing up!

In California almost every store sells liquor/beer/wine. I mean EVERY store. It does vary a little by county, but in Orange County every Target, Walmart, grocery store, CVS, Rite Aid -even 7/11.

Liquor is not hard to come by.
