This is probably a stupid question, and I'm sorry in advance.

I haven't bought anything from e-bay in quite a while, but a friend suggested I check there for an extra wii remote, and I found one I want to buy, but when I go through the link on e-bay to pay with Paypal, it keeps prompting me to link a credit card to my Paypal account, and won't let me go any further until I do. I REALLY don't want to do this. Is this a recent change? I always paid with Paypal in the past, and it was deducted from my checking account.

Same happened to me. I had $30 in my account from selling, but removed all my credit cards. It would not let me spend my $30 in my PayPal balance without having a credit card linked, even though it was only a $15 item. So I added the credit card, spent the $30, then removed it again. It worked perfectly.

There's really no other way for paypal to collect your money without a credit card. UNLESS you link to bank account I think.

Seems to me more and more I see paypal... all over / paypal.

Connecting PayPal to a credit card is a lot less worrisome to me than connecting PayPal to a bank account...:confused3 I've used PayPal for years and years and have never ever provided my banking information to them (and I never will), but I've always used my credit card. I figure that my credit card has a lot of consumer protections built in against fraud, my bank account, not so much. If my credit card is used fraudulently, a phone call to the issuer takes care of it. If they get into my bank account, I'm screwed.

I agree with this. I use my CC for paypal/ebay purchases because at least you have the CC protection and Paypal protection (which is garbage but at least it's something).

i would just link the CC and then remove it after your purchase goes through.
