Happy Sunday morning fellow EB TA cruisers, having a coffee and surfing the DIS this morning:surfweb:

CAT3, how nice that would be! Not even an option for this family, were just happy to be aboard and have a port hole in our CAT9.

I wonder how long it will take to sell this cruise out. Or at least the more popular catergories.

How did it go, I've been thinking about you

it went fine. It took awhile, but I was glad to get it over with. I should have results on Monday or Tuesday.

We are booked!!!!!!!!

Will read the thread from the start next week on night shift!!
We are only back a week today from the western and had the blues so had to book to get me through life!!!

Welcome to the thread!

:thumbsup2 We booked the cheapest cabins we could for this one. It seems the more I cruise the less I care about the cabin. I had a balcony on my first 2 cruises(non DCL) then once I booked my first inside I realized that was fine for my needs. On our first DCL cruise we booked 2 cat 9s and we were upgraded to two balconies on deck 7. We never used the balcony during the whole week. We will just be happy to be on the ship.

Our thoughts exactly:thumbsup2 We just wanna be on the ship, and from our past 2 cruises we find we spend very little time in the cabin anyway. We only want the porthole so we can see the horizon in case of rough seas.

What a nice upgrade they gave you. 2 balcony rooms, outstanding. DW doesn't feel comfortable with having a balcony and DD(2 at time TA).

We actually had 3 cabins booked on deck 2 and we all got upgraded to deck 7. My mom and sister were in the 3rd cabin. My mom uses O2 and DH thinks that may have something to do with it. We booked 2 cat 9s on deck 2 for our 2nd cruise(just us) but, no upgrade. We booked 2 cat 11s gtys for this cruise. We will see.

Wouldn't that be wonderful. I wondered if they would upgrade people if they booked or were linked with more than 1 cabin, I guess they do. Both my family and my mom have the Secret Porthole rooms on Deck 5. I agree with Alex that I just like to be able to look out a window, we were rarely in our room.

Have a great day everyone!!!:goodvibes

Morning Gina! Maybe they'll bump you and your mom into a 2 bedroom suite:banana:

Thankyou Gina and Mary, glad to be with you!
I cant comment on the weather because coming from Scotland we always think the weather is good compared to us!:confused3
On our last crusie we had a fellow cruiser on our trip,he had a cat 3, he said it was good but did not think it was worth the money( I have an 11 and would take my chance with a 3!) I can pm you his user name if you have any questions! or maybe you have already sailed a 3!
We always book a 12 but none available to book so had to book a 11 gty. I really wanted to pick my cabin this time! Other cruises/hols we have taken our DN but this time she has school and we really wanted to do this trip,so she is NOT happy. It is so exciting!

Were going on a disney cruise!

Lisa!!!

You're back!!!

How was your trip?
It was great! I LOVE Chicago. Everyone is so nice, seems a bit small town with how everyone is nice. But it has all the big city feel too. I'd like to go back with the whole family some day.

HELLO!!!!

I think my husband and I will book the EBTA on our next cruise this Nov 15 (Western). We are concerned about the temps and/or rainfall in Spain during April. I also wondered If anyone knows how rough and choppy the Atlantic waters tend to be during the Spring. Also We are looking into booking a CAT 3 ( or at least attempt a booking in this CAT. We may be waitlisted! ) Has anyone stayed in a CAT 3 -1 bedroom suite? I would love any insight on the ROI (return on investment) of this CAT when compared to lower CAT's:cool1:

Thank You for your time:worship:

We haven't stayed in a Cat. 3, but we did stay in Cat. 1 before. The pluses I see is that you will have no concern at all as to booking Palos, spa, shore excursion. The suites get priority and they will make sure you get pretty much everything you want (which is what I found). It is also nice to have such a big living space, which the Cat. 3 will have as well. It felt more like "home" than a cabin room. I think for these longer cruises it would be heaven as you might want to stay in your cabin more than if it was a quick 3-4 or 7 day cruise. I loved having room service, although I think Cat. 3 does not get Palo's. You might want to post on the main thread for clarification on that. But I do know you can order from the main dining areas and have it delivered to you room - so you have an expanded room service. Having eggs benedict in bed was great. You will also have a larger balcony which is nice to entertain (Nan, do you think that hint was obvious enough?? ;) ) You never need to go to guest services for anything. Your crew takes care of you for anything you need. You get to board early. And sometimes suites do get priority with tendering...that seems to be questionable though so I wouldn't count on it. You have more storage space, which may be a plus for a longer cruises.

The downside...frankly, it is just a cost factor. If cost was no factor, then I'm not sure why anyone would turn one down. Hence, cost is a factor for most Americans these days, even those ultra rich. So I guess I would look at the difference in cost - for us on the WB PC, the difference was $10,000 to upgrade to Cat. 1 (we were on the waitlist in our connecting Cat. 9s and got called). After much debate with my fellow DISers, we determined that cost was not worth all those extras above. If they said - $1000 more - I'd jump on it. We all have different comfort levels of what makes something "worth it." For someone else, the suite would be worth it for $10,000 more, others wouldn't find it worth it for $1000.

I do like balconys. On our last 15 day cruise, we didn't have one but it worked fine as DH got up every morning and left the room to work. Usually, he sleeps later than me, and I usually would head to the balcony to hang out until he wakes. But because he was gone, it wasn't an issue. This time, we are HOPING he won't have to work so we went ahead an upgraded our two 8s for 2 6s. It was $2700 more. For me, having the balcony for 14 days is worth it. For many, it would not. I do have a method to my maddness though....see I'm waitlisted for Cat. 1 & 2 again so if it goes through, the delta shouldn't be as great as it WOULD have been had I stayed in Cat. 8. Maybe I can then "justify" that increase....;) Ah, the things we do to trick ourselves.

Lastly, I guess I would say how often do you travel? I think when people travel more often, they can make do with less with the accomodations. After all, perhaps their next trip is just two months away. For us, this is the big one after our 08 Panama Canal one. We won't fly anyway until then, and so basically....it is the "all in" theory. Others might want to travel more so they spend less on things that aren't a necessary. We travel less, so we tend to "go all out."

Ok, one more thought....people in the inside cabins get the same food, service, entertainment then those in the largest suites. That is one of the benefits of cruising on any ship other than Queen Mary (which does has classes I think). So no matter what cabin you are in, we are all in the same boat! Hope I gave you enought food for thought!

Mary, I just noticed your tag - you have 6 children??? Wow. And close in age. I'm 1 of 6. My mom had 6 under 8 - looks like you beat her by a year!

Has anyone else had trouble getting on our website? Not sure if it is my computer, but it gives me an error...:confused3

Hi! Was just going to subscribe since we're not sure if we're doing this, but....

would like to add one more thing to calmom's great & thorough review of concierge cabins 1-3. We have sailed in a cat 3 and all she mentioned is true, as well as getting great little treats all the time. Chocolate covered strawberries, arcade cards for DS, waters/sodas stocked in the beginning & sometimes replenished, munchies everyday, etc. That was fun to get a new surprise or two each day.

Plus the large bathtub made it for me -- after a long day at the beach in the caribbean I used to squeeze a container of the upgraded bath & shower gel that smelled like herbs into the tub for a relaxing bubble bath....ah! Great!

Okay having said all that, if we book we will go for a cat. 9 this time -- our reasoning is a bit of travel time in Spain, Portugal, and it's a better rate than airfare!!

Thanks for the continuing info on this entertaining thread.

Lisa,

So glad you liked "my" city. Chicago is very comfortable and for such a large city is incredibly livable.

When I moved here from NYC the first thing I noticed was how nice people are.

Did you eat in any good places?

The conference turned out to take more of my time than I would have liked, most likely the first part b/c I get a bit focused before doing a talk. So we ate at Shula's, right in the restaurant. It was overpriced, but we enjoyed the food. We did make it to your recommendation the next day - Portillo's Hot Dogs! That place was great. Great hot dog, onion rings, and great atmosphere. We couldn't make it out for breakfast.

Did you get your flight situation worked out to fly the night before?

Oh that is right. You do get those "freebies." You also get a lithograph, at least we did for Cat. 1. Free sodas and water - that was a good one. I do like entertaining and that is fun to do when you have a suite (Carl, you are getting all these hints aren't you??:rotfl: ). We did a little DIS board meet when we were in Cat. 1 and that was a lot of fun, although it wasn't a big DISer cruise. I also liked being the meeting place for my family that was traveling with us. If you have in-laws or parents coming on the cruise as well, it is great way to have them hang with the kids as you go Rockin Bar or take a stroll and since it has a living room, you don't have to tidy up your cabin! Man....all this talk is sure getting me going. I wonder how much those Cat. 1 & 2s are on this cruise??

On the flip side, having two connecting rooms is very much like having a suite as far as space goes. And any extra money can be spent towards photos and rum!
Lisa

Not sure if it is "free", you are paying and deserve your "free" water and soda and chocolate covered strawberries!

I get it free too, just have to send dh for it! lol:rotfl:

If anyone gets a cat1-3. Can you please invite us over for a visit. I'd love to see it, and maybe even enjoy a few cocktails with ya:banana:

Does anyone have an idea of what a "full" ship looks like on these Transatlantic cruises. I read somewhere on DIS ... because of the long time at sea and away for restocking, the ship can only hold so much supplies and they cannot sail will all the cabins full.

Yes I had 6 in 7 years but, I did have twins at the end. I am one of 6 also. We are all 5 years apart.

Don't worry all - DH and I keep them in line! :) They will not be running down the halls or pushing all the buttons on the elevators.

For everyones input! ;) Has anyone ever upgraded thier stateroom at the port? How much can one save?
