I am pretty much economy proof too....RT at a big Hospital, and can work pretty much as much OT as I want....just gotta be able to do it physically.

But, we are in Metro Detroit and we've been hit REALLY hard....our house values have really taken a nose dive. Luckily my folks have been really good with their money and I don't have to worry about them at least.

Kel. is in the Auto field....I've been trying to get her to make a move to some other area, but there really is no OTHER area around here. :rotfl2:

We may have to seriously consider a big move to another area of country....I don't mind, I can get a job anywhere with what I do....as long as it warmer. I just don't know how we will sell the house.

We need Lotsa Pixie Dust sent our way. I just got a call From Kel...they swept through her department at work and pretty much the whole team got layed off!:confused3

The evil Economy demon has finally caught up to us....she has spent the last year and a half dodging him, so it is almost a relief. Hopefully, she will be able to call in a couple favors and find another position by Jan....and it I will have to pick up as much over time as I can.:scared1:

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Now, I am glad this trip is so far away....if gives us a chance to catch our breath and rebound. I am going to try and not stress yet....I have alot of time before I have to worry about cancelling.

I guess I should check my lottery numbers.....

OH Jewel, I'm sorry to hear that! I hope Kel can find another job without too much trouble. I actually picked up a part-time job today, since my law practice has been slowing down lately- but it gave me hope that there ARE jobs out there for people, even in this economy.

Gina:

Sorry to hear your practice has slowed up too but, glad to hear you are able to cover with something part time. Not sure if you saw that Paul also had to go out on to contract work, his practice has all but dried up, except those lovely clients that want and have him work for nothing...why are those the clients that love him??? He is too nice a guy.

Jewel: Sorry to here about Kelly's job. Hopefully there is a silver lining for her somewhere in a new job.

I've also not been working for a couple of months, and taken this as my time to look back at school. I'm hoping to figure it out and start something after the first of this year. Just gotta get motivated to figure out what and where now.

We always need RT's at ORMC! Definitely warmer in Orlando :thumbsup2
Hope things start looking up for you soon.

That's what I'm doing too- contract work for another law practice. I get stuck with the clients who don't want to pay either! What type of law does Paul do? I'm suffering hard because I do a lot of real estate work, and I write wills/trusts, etc. The real estate market is in the pits right now, and when money is tight, there are a lot less people worried about spending money to have their will done or create trusts to protect their assets. Some of my friends have seen a boom in business over the last few months-- more divorces and bankruptcies for sure!

Erica - what's the market like for RNs in the Orlando area? My wife has been working as an RN in nursing homes for almost 15 years, and we've been considering a move to Florida - preferably Tampa, Orlando, or Jacksonville.

Unfortunately, when were were visiting in August we didn't take the time to look at the local job market for computer professionals or nurses.

Mostly corporate business, lots of contracts, entity (incorporation etc...), some litigation when his business clients require it and most recently he is trying to work as a sports agent for auto racing. He has a few drivers under contract and he is working on getting them sponsorship and driver deals. He is working on a contract licensing job at SONY with their Play Station division. He came home yesterday and told Willie that he has a play station in his office, Wilson's eyes got really big

I'm glad Paul doesn't do family law, I think he would hate to have to work on divorce issues.:sad2:

Does anybody want to hazard a guess as to why the Westbound trip hits the Eastern Caribbean ports but the Eastbound trip doesn't?

I've been thinking about it a lot, and I've come to an important conclusion: I'm doing a transatlantic Disney cruise with or without my wife. If she announces she doesn't want to come along after experiencing our Western this summer, I will just change the reservation to one person instead of two. But, considering the ports of call, I just might do the Westbound instead of the Eastbound.

The last repos didn't do the caribbean ports either... I think they are trying to mix it up a bit... Also it's returning during hurricane season... maybe they thought they could get the cheaper repo in at those ports which may be regular DCL ports... :confused3

DH does IP stuff, some corp, and Sept was the slowest month since he started his own practice in 06. I keep thinking he should transition into bankruptcies.....
Can real estate work translate into mortgage lawsuits? I know there is a lot of action, at least here in California against Countrywide, with people making a lawsuit against their broker and/or mortgage company.

does he like BK law? It's so different from IP, dontchathink? I think Paul has that listed right behind family law in what he doesn't want to do...Unfortunately he has a client that is dealing with trying to get paid from his customer that filed a BK, so it does enter into his world too :sad2:

He hasn't done any BK work...just wondering if he should think about it. From what I see from a lay person, it looks pretty darn complicated.
Nite!

I couldn't do divorce law either- it's too emotional for me having to deal with families breaking up. Plus the clients tend to call all day and night with their arguments. Contract law is a decent field. I do some of that myself, but finding a lot less people forming corporations or needing contracts lately. I think it's a combination of business being slow for people and not wanting to pay an attorney to look at things because money is tight.

Bankruptcy law is a tricky field. A couple of years ago they switched around the bankruptcy rules so that 1- it's less beneficial for people to file for it, 2- the attorneys make less money. So a lot of people who were doing bankruptcy law stopped doing it! I used to have a couple of people who I'd refer bankruptcy matters to, but they got out of the field.

As for the real estate market, I've tried to help some clients who are attempting to buy properties that have fallen into foreclosure, but the banks are completely uncoopertive around here. It makes no sense to me, because you think they'd rather sell these houses than have them go to auction (where they'll get less money), but they can never agree on a price with the buyers. I've had a couple of people come in whose houses were being foreclosed, but usually those people can't afford to pay anything for legal help.. and there's only so much work I can do for free! I already got gypped once, when I agreed to do all of the paperwork for someone and then when it came time for her to come in and pay part of the bill she stopped returning my calls. Now I have to ask for money up front, and the people in foreclosure don't HAVE money to give me up front.

OK, I'm off to my 3-hour glucose test this morning. Fingers and toes crossed that I pass this time!!

I'm not sure why they are doing the Caribbean on the Westbound either, but it's exactly the reason we chose the Eastbound. I'd rather have the extra European port (Cadiz) and the overnight in Barcelona rather than visit St. Maarten (which we didn't care for) and Tortola (which we have no interest in).

BTW trimix, if you'd like to be added to the website for our sailing (www.freewebs.com/spanishinquisition/) just PM me with your party's info!

Its very good here. We are always looking for nurses. At Orlando Health alone we have 7 hospitals, and Florida Hospital has 4 or so in the area. Of course I am partial to Orlando Health (and very proud of our level one trauma center). Lots of ALFs and SNFs in the area as well, which will most likely pay more than the hospitals. I know we are always short of nurses on our rehab floor!

Same reason we chose the EB....hate to lose the 6 hours tho.

Can I be added to the Fish Extenders list....now that I have figured out what they are.

I think I'll stop at the Auto Store and look for an organizer.

Where is everyone getting the images for the Door decoration?

I'm sorry to hear that. They are doing some layoffs at DHs work also. Very stressful! I just found out that my SIL's DH is being let go after Thanksgiving. We both live on 1 income so I really feel for her.

I really like St. Maarten but, I have been there 2xs. I have not been to Cadiz. The overnight in Barcelona is key for us. That saves us the cost of a hotel overnight for 8 people. I think the air trip from Europe to US is easier to deal with than US to Europe. And the most important factor for us is the kids vacation time. The weather in September would probably be nicer BUT, One week out of school is doable. 2 weeks not so much.

The Caribbean ports on the WB might be nice but September is peak hurricane season so there is the chance they won't even see those ports. Both the EB and the WB will be great you just have to figure out which one works for you and pick one--that's the problem!:)

Where is everyone getting the images for the Door decoration?

Some we got from simply doing searches for Disney images and some DH designed. We then printed the designs out on magnetic printer paper. We had a friend do the ears for the cabin door #s. I bought my FE on Ebay. I paid like $7.00. I also got some Mickey paint chips from Home Depot and added magnets to the back. My kids also drew pictures and I put magnets on them.

We will have to make some new ones for the TA.
