I'm a good 3 1/2 hr drive East of Toronto. For the rest of Ontario, Toronto is a real mixed bag. Sort of what NY City is to upstate New York. All of the issues and baggage and provincial political power resentments. However, glad you had great visits to T.O. ps loved how in the movie Argo, the Americans were taught to pronounce Toronto correctly. The second t is silent. So phonetically, "Toe - Ron - Oh." ps edited to add: Ontarians are thrilled to have our American visitors/cousins come to see us, wherever they visit, and however they choose to pronounce our city names. Given our low dollar, we are a big bargain right now! But personally, I'd recommend you visit us in the summer when we have temps in the mid 70sF and you don't have to pull on a parka

We just got back from dropping off DD. We're in for the duration. Except for shoveling of course.

Gotcha on the whole "how Tore-Ron-Oh" is to the rest of Ontario. I'm very close to NYC, but despise it - only go there when I have to, travel with others, and come back as quickly as I can. Feel that way about most big cities - too big, too crowded, too much traffic, too many rude people, just TOO! I'm a "burbs kinda girl".

Thanks for that, Heidi. Was a bit concerned that I had been short or rude. Big cities can do that do you when you are on the fringe. ps just watching the CNN weather update. Not looking good for your neck of the woods. Stay warm! ps layering clothes works. esp for sleeping. Lots of t-shirts and then sweats. But you know all this emergency stuff from your training. We learn here as children (Brownies, Girl Guides for girls and Scouts for boys) to layer our clothes to deal with the cold. I also fill my bathtub with water if concerned about a power outage. If power, I can still use my shower. If not, at least I have water for washing myself, can transfer into a pail for dishes and can also use a pail to force flush the toilet. On that lovely note! Have the best night you can! Good thoughts! Will touch base tomorrow if you have power.

Morning update from SE Pennsylvania; over 12 inches on the ground and a nasty cold wind blowing snow drifts onto the roads. Time to make some chili and renew my netflix subscription.

N.E. NJ - Must have started here after I went to bed last night around 11. Woke up at 5 with whiteout conditions, looking like milk outside, with blowing/drifting. Still snowing very heavily, blowing/drifting at 8. Not sure how much is on ground, hard to tell with blowing, and I'm looking down from 2nd floor, plus there is a drift on my living room window at least 8" deep (prevailing winds come from that way). I'm VERY glad I don't have to go out, or shovel, just hoping to keep power. They upped the expected totals by me from 6-10" to 12-18". Be safe everyone, and I'm so glad we have each other like this!!!

EDIT - Just watched weather forecast online from 6 a.m., they said the brunt of this won't hit here until mid morning - early afternoon, and it won't stop snowing until about midnight, so we have a LONG way to go! They also confirmed new expected totals of 12-18", said it's snowing right now at about 2" hour.

Good morning from south Jersey. Looks like we've got at least 12 inches on the ground so far. I'm still in bed so not sure. Can hear the wind howling. The Jersey shore is dealing with significant flooding but we're 50-60 miles inland.

Wow Steve, I just saw the Jersey update. We have a place in North Wildwood and they were only supposed to be a few inches but they are showing up to a foot. Flood levels are supposed to be two or three inches below Sandy was at high tide, and that gave us a foot of water in the garage.

Yes, the shore looks like it's getting hammered. The full moon didn't help since tides were high.

I'm going to go start shoveling soon. The snow is still falling about 1-2 inches/hour so whatever I clear will be covered up in no time but it's better than doing it all at once. My wife thinks I should wait until tomorrow but I think it's better to do it in stages.

Things are pretty bad here too. I can't get out my backdoor, drifts are huge, and the wind is really bad. It's coming down at two inches an hour right now and going strong. There's already 7+ inches out there and up to 24 predicted. Stay safe, all!

Yes, definitely shore areas are getting it worse than here, since it's astronomical high tides, on top of the tidal piling from the fierce winds. When I went to bed last night, Barnegat was under mandatory evacs, a lot of other areas (Mannasquan, Seaside Heights, Little Egg Harbor, Tuckerton) were under voluntary, don't know if that's changed any. And to have to deal with that AND the snow, ugh! Fingers crossed for those folks (and us), and still crossing for no loss of power for any of us!!
