Eastern US Storm Watch

Just saw pic of new panda @ National Zoo in DC rolling around, loving the snow - so cute! :)
Heidi: just saw the video of your DC panda playing the snow. Big smile. He is loving your storm. ps when I was a kid, my Dad took us on a road trip to see some of the Civil War Battle sites (Gettysburg) plus we had a few days in DC to see the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Library of Congress and the White House. We didn't do an tour of the White House but in the early 80s (Jimmy Carter was the President), we could walk right up to the sidewalk in front and I remember swinging on the black iron gate? Of course, those days are long gone. But we also visited your National Zoo and saw the pandas. Pandas were a huge deal then . . . I think DC was the first zoo to have a pr? Great experience. ps it was the spring and the Cherry Blossoms were out. Gorgeous. Heidi: Thanks for the panda reference. Brought back lots of great memories.:-)

Nice, glad I was connected with something that made you smile. :) I'm LOVE pandas, and am hoping to see them one day!

The winter has been good this year, I think we had 4 storms over 12" each in one month last year. Of course, I said the same thing last year at this time.....

We actually enjoy it(or make the best of it) -good chance to relax and spend some quality time with my wife! We've got dinner going, wine open, fire in the fireplace, might play some cards later. Maybe it will snow again next weekend!

Sounds like a relatively good day, GAN - glad you're making the best of it. Yes - last 2 years were brutal here - 2 years ago - many storms with big totals. Last year - succession of ice storms, and/or huge snows that iced over - again, and again, and again. Especially since I rely on public transportation and walking, it was NOT a fun experience!

Enjoy on Tuesday, Jes!!
Thanks!
But before than, I have my wedding anniversary to enjoy today (24th Jan)
2 years married, almost 11 years together.
We're heading into Melbourne city for some wandering, a movie at crown casino, cocktails at TGIF, and dinner at a steak house I've been wanting to go to for a long time. Would have been nice for the weather to be warm and sunny, alas, it wasn't for our wedding day either!

Heidi: do you have snow grippers? The studded rubber galoshes that you can pull onto the bottom of your winter boots? Years ago when I had my old labrador, I had a pr of these so that I wouldn't fall on the ice when walking him. I think I bought mine on amazon for less than $20. They were a life saver then and have held up for many yrs. Of course, with metal studs on the bottom, they had to be removed before walking indoors.

Thanks!

Actually - I do, I call them my "cleats". GMTA, Sam!! :") I did find them VERY useful last year, but like you said - had to be very careful walking in between buses, on the the bus, inside, etc.

I honestly cannot believe that it is STILL coming down!!! We are expecting 30 inches now and are near it. Tomorrow is going to be ridiculous with trying to get things cleared out. They have barely plowed here because it's been coming down so quickly.

Happy Anniversary! And many, many more! Enjoy your day! :flower3: Think I snuck the first DIS congratulations out to you! hah!

Thanks kids!! We agreed no presents but Leigh got me a lovely card and a huge bunch of beautiful flowers. He's a good egg.

Thanks!

Happy Anniversary! So what kind of cocktails are you thinking? Sounds like a great day ...enjoy

I'm glad to read that everyone's doing okay despite the craziness of the storm!
As for me ... apparently I don't check the weather enough. I was expecting 8-12 inches. That forecast apparently changed yesterday to 12-18. Last I checked, we're somewhere around 18-20 and it's still snowing. My father and brother are outside shoveling right now ... but we haven't seen a plow in almost 8 hours, so I have no idea if my parents will be able to get to the airport for their flight tomorrow afternoon.
We're also very thankful to still have power, as we have low-hanging tree branches right on top of our power lines, and we're always worried that they'll fall down and break the power lines. So far no problem, though, so I think we'll make it through.

Jes - happy anniversary!!

Has anyone heard from @Campellzsoup? Think he lives in NYC and is prob in the the thick of the snow. Hoping all is well with him & with our NYC DIS'rs.:-)

Funny -I'm in southern New England, we started out yesterday at 1-3", then this morning we were expecting 3-6", now they've changed it to 12". Sounds like the poor forecasters were wrong all the way up the coast ...you'd think one of them would have gotten lucky and been within at least 6".

I am partial to margaritas and mojitos, as well as a good bahama mama.
But I also love patron XO cafe and a good scotch.
The options are limitless really!
