I was wondering how easy it is to switch resorts during your stay. My first visit as a member I have a crazy reservation. We have 12 days at 3 different resorts.
The positive thing is that we will always have fresh towels.

may 11-13 vwl
may 14 - okw
may 15-18 -bcv
may 19-20 okw
may 22-23 bcv

I am still on the waitlist if some days days fill the holes. But am I crazy for doing this or will it by seamless checkin and checkouts that wont affect us...After all its Disney not some non-Mickey Mouse organization.

I can't wait to see the responses

I sure hope some of your waitlists come thru. I don't mind one change during a stay, but right now you have 5. That would drive me crazy. I like to settle in and get unpacked. However, if you travel lightly and don't mind living out of a suitcase, go for it.
I don't think that this schedule is going to allow you to "get to know" any one of the resorts very well and I don't think you will feel like you at your "home away from home" .

But maybe your waitlist for some will come thru and you can stay put in one place for a while.

Good luck with this.

"Am I Crazy?" is a hypothetical, rhetorical, redundant statement for us members.

Didn't you read your paperwork? Being crazy is a pre-requisite.

BTW I haven't done what you are planning but sounds like something I would do (and your wife's reaction sounds like mine would be!)

Ah.......one of those "I told you so" moments that your wife will remind you of for the rest of your life. You do now that we live for those. ;)

They do make moving as convenient as possible, but you still have to check-in each time. You also have to be in your room for them to deliver your belongings, so there's another delay. They also don't guarantee getting them to another DVC resort until 4:00pm.

Good luck in getting those waitlists!

Are DVC Members Crazy?

or actually smart.:jester:

or maybe just kids at heart. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Good luck on the waitlist. Every day moving leaves that much less time for fun.

Have a great trip

No matter how you slice it, it seems that moving day is mostly a wasted day for us until we finally get settled in late afternoon and then we have the evening. The timing never works as planned and we inevitibly need something that's packed in a bag somewhere in bell hop storage. It's as if we flew in that day all over again. People do it all the time and they seem to handle the chaos with ease, however, we are not of that group. We only move if we have to, so my answer to you is YES, I think you're crazy!

Yes, I think you are a bit crazy, but then again aren't we all a bit crazy around here!:jester:

Danny and Erica,
If it's just the two of you, I say "go for it". We vacationed at HH, WDW and Vero last summer for the first time as DVC members. We stayed at HH 5 nights, BWV 3 nights, VWL 3 nights, OKW 3 nights, Vero 3 nights and ended the vacation with 2 nights Poly conceirge. We had no problems changing resorts, no delays and went to parks during the day while the luggage was transferred from one resort to the next. We would have stayed 3 nights at BCV too but it wasn't open yet. If you have family, then I'd advise hoping the wait list comes through.

Disney makes moving as easy as possible and I have done it, but I really hate it. I also feel that I waste an entire day moving. I have only done this a few times and it was only one move per visit, I really woudn't want to do what your doing. I hope some of your wait list comes through. Either way, you will be at Disney and you will have a good time.

Yes, it will be me and the DW ONLY...Because its just the 2 of us it will make it easier...I chalk it up to serious planning to be able to avoid madness. Luckily for my DW I am a great Disney planner.....

Yes you are crazy. Hope you enjoy waiting for rooms to be ready. One thing you have going for you, it is May the least popular time to go to WDW for members or non-members.

I think you are a little crazy, but not bad! :)

I have been to WDW 3 times in the last 9 months, and on all three trips, we had to change resorts one time during the stay. But, we have an 8 year old and a 3 year old...so to me that is what made it hard. Packing up all of their stuff each time - and kids have lots of stuff!

Had it just been me and my husband, it would have been a no brainer. You don't go to the desk to check out - you just go to the bell hop and give them your bags and tell them the new resort. We would then go to the parks, and then after lunch, head to the new resort. Each time, our rooms were ready by 2pm. (it is so very easy to stay at the parks until then anyway!) The one day I worried, it was December and pouring rain - so we did not go to the parks. We went to lunch on the Boardwalk, and after that we tried to check in - and our room was ready. So we were lucky.

So - for 2 people, it should not be a big deal. Just plan your park days around where you are staying. We switched from WL to BCV - so we went to MK in the morning. Took the monorail to Epcot for lunch. Then walked to BCV and checked in. Not a problem.

As my husband is now convinced, Disney is not a vacation - it is a marathon! I must love marathons! :)

We are doing the same thing, but we love it. My kids love to check into a different hotel, we have a lot of fun with it. My children prefer the Boardwalk and my husband and I prefer OKW, so we split our stay and then add Vero Beach at the end.

The packing isn't a big deal for me at all, I think it will depend on whether or not the packing would bother you.

Everyone is different, so I don't think you will know whether or not it will bother you, until you go through it. Either way, I think you will still have a ball!!!!!!!!!

Danny-
In my opinion it is better to be there, than not, even if if you are "resort hopping" so often.

I think ktbugsmom had a good idea of giving bags to bell services and then off you go to the parks, or some other destination. don't wait around for your room if you don't have to and the changes won't seem as extreme and time consuming.

Also, as mentioned by others, this is a good way to plan your park days around your home location.

Have a day bag w/essentials that you can put in a car.

Have a great time.

Wish I knew about this transfer of bags for resort switch check in last DEC. We had to get 7 people and all of their belongings from BCV to WLV in only one car!

How does this work? Is there a fee?

I better not tell DH that this was available-we had our own family shuttle service btwn resorts.

Nezy,
There is not a fee to have them transfer your bags - but tips are appreciated. :) As I mentioned, it is a piece of cake. You can even have bell services come to your room and get your bags for you! However, we are normally trying to get to an early morning entry or something, so we are not patient enough to wait for them! You just bring your bags to bell services. Tell them the name of the resort you are switching to, and they tag your bags and bring them over some time that day.

Disney makes it so easy and our bags have always been there by 3pm. As a hint, we usually bring a backpack to the parks with us that has our swimming suits, just in case our bags are not there and we want to head to the pool at our new resort.

Hope that helps.

I agree with how easy it is. And I guess I'm not patient either. I just drop my bags off at bell services on the way to the park. One other little tip that goes along with packing a few things, maybe for swimming, seperately. Last time, I went to AK. As soon as I entered the park, I rented a locker, stored that "extra stuff" so I didn't have to carry it around, then picked it up as I left the park on the way to BCV in case my room wasn't ready yet, so I could use Stormalong Bay. So don't forget the lockers at the parks.

I would like to thank everyone for their remarks. I will make sure that I take care of the bell hops to transfer my luggage.

The real crazy thing is that I changed my ressie to be like this so I could be at my hoe resort BCV for a few days. My original ressie was 3 days vwl and 9 days at okw. I couldnt resist staying so close to the action at bcv and bwv. Meanwhile the DW is telling me I am a crazy person. I hope the waitlist comes through agin to fill in my gap days.

Have a great holiday everyone.
