Do any of you recommend purchasing an extended protection agreement (warranty) on the Dyson vacs? I normally don't buy them, but being this is a coughcough$500coughcough vacuum, maybe it's necessary?

I bought a Dyson animal recently and it's a nice vac. Sears offers the protection agreement for $20 a year (an extended warranty basically with once a year cleaning provided if you like).

Dyson has the 2 year warranty, but it's only for manufacture defects, so if I run over the cord or whatever, that's my fault and it's not covered.

Worth it? Have you had any problems with the Dyson? I know they can last 20 years or so (in England they have from what I'm told). Still ... not sure.

thx.

I didn't get it because my sister sent me this as a present. Nice Sister

If I bought it in a store I would have extended the warranty. Always do, but never use it. :rotfl2:

We bought the lime green and purple Dyson, which is exactly like the Animal, but with an extended warranty. We bought it online, and I think the price we got was the same as the Animal, with free shipping, so it was a good deal (relatively speaking). We actually have had to replace the hose...it split near the top, so it was duct-taped for a while. I had thought that the warranty time had passed (it was just over a year), so I had looked online to see what info I could find, and found a discussion board where people were talking about how to repair the hose. Of course, I don't know if that's a big problem or what. Then I remembered it's an extended warranty (maybe 3 years?), so DH called, and we got a new hose.

In general, I've always heard that extended warranties weren't cost effective, and we usually don't get them. For some reason, DH got one on my PDA a few years ago, and I was surprised. Then, it died, and they replaced it with a much better one (the other was discontinued), then that one died under the same warranty, so they gave me a REFUND, and I got a cheaper PDA and had a whole bunch left on the credit for some other stuff. So, in this case, it worked out great.

We have the Dyson animal :flower: I love it! and this year I broke it :confused3 I got the engineer out and as it had a 3 yr part warranty I was covered for parts cost (new motor). I then took out the extended warranty immediately as I think the engineer was being kind not charging me for labor. No regrets they are worth it!
