Dyslexia questions

See we have had her tested by the school and the result was that, while she was struggling, she wasn't "discrepent enough" to qualify for services - so pretty much she was behind, but not far enough behind to warrant help.:lmao:

That is why we started with our own direct instruction tutor at home twice a week. Now that second grade is coming up, the tutor suggested we get an outside evaluation done, because if it comes back with something, then we can go to the school and get either an IEP or a 504 plan in place since, per the tutor, second grade will require more of her in spelling / reading /writing and while she does have an average / above average IQ and has been able to compensate so far, this could be the year things start to fall apart without some sort of plan in place.

Sorry, I missed this post somehow.:confused:Anyway, if it is in your budget, an outside eval certainly couldn't hurt and it may help. We run into the problem sometimes of not being able to legally qualify children who we feel need help; very frustrating for everyone - especially the child, of course. I hope things work out for your DD.:goodvibes

Just wanted to follow up to let everyone know that I talked with our district's special education director and the district is going to do their own formal evaluation for "language based learning disabilities" which according to the director is their current lingo that covers dyslexia.

We are still having the outside evaluation done as well as having her tested for Auditory Processing Deficits since according to what we have read, dyslexia and APD can go hand-in-hand.

We did have an awesome Disney vacation :)
