DVC wait list Options at BLT & AKL (Room Type no matter view)

I ran into an interesting thing today and want to push something out to the experts. This post may be in the wrong section and if so, my apologies. I am a DVC member with my home being BLT. We made a reservation fairly late for later this year and in turn booked for SSR. We are on the list for BLT MKV and VWL. I am familiar with the two active wait list rule so here is my epiphany.... BLT and AKL both have situations where, for example a 2 BR has a couple of point usage options, obviously this is due to View and or location. The cast member I spoke to mentioned that if I want to wait list at BLT for a 2 BR no matter the view it would count as both my wait preferences, because they have them broken out into categories. The short answer for this is due to people not wanting to use or having enough points for the higher of the two options. DVC already asks us all at booking if we OK them to borrow if needed.
So here is the question at hand: What are DVC DISer's views on an option to wait list for a Room Class no matter of view as a third option when requesting wait list? If the answer ends up being yes, we should email dvcmembersatisfactionteam.com with that suggestion and if not well "leave good enough alone". Thoughts?

The point of limiting the member to two active waitlists at a time was to help reduce calls to MS. By allowing any room category, that could allow up to six at a time. Defeats the purpose.

I am a DVC member with only 2 years under my belt now. So bring me up to speed on this rule. Was it established before or after AKL and BLT were open. These are the only two that I am aware of that have this situation. My first reaction is to think if you want a 2br at a particular resort no matter the view and points not a concern why should that be factor. I agree fundamentaly there must be a way to limit the amount of room types and places you wait for, but this "new" senerio creates an interesting situation. Take me for example, family of 5, 2 adults, 3 kids under 10, 2br is best option for us. We want BLT first no matter of view, but would be happy with VWL. Unlike BLT, may request for a 2br at VWL puts me in for ALL 2br options that resort and only counts for 1 of my wait list options. If BLT had a 2br (either view) option it better addresses the intent of the member.

Are you saying you can waitlist a 2 bedroom BLT for certain dates indicating you have no view preference? There are 3 catagories for BLT so how would this work? I would like the ability to do that and I would not have a problem with it being both my waitlist but there are 3 catagories. I did have BLT 2 bdrm WL recently and found myself calling back frequently to see it the standard view was available since I had LV and MKV waitlisted. If I had "1st available 2 bdrm BLT for these dates" on WL I do not think I would have kept calling back.

I wish that is what I am saying. My early opinion is inline withexactly your opinion. One WL for "any avaliable 2br" at the resorts that have "options". It does look like that is the trend for DVC anyway. You gotta think Hawaii will have the same situation as well. I mean if I am wanting to visit that resort but need a 2br, believe me location and point cost isn't the issue. The main reason I opened this thread is to see what the temp is out there. If it apprears that it is something that DVC should explore, then we owe it to them to help make it a better deal for all involved and that would start with emailing them with the suggestion. If there is some strong reasons as to why an option like that would cascade into bigger issues, this is the best forum to find out that as well.

 It seems to be the reverse to me. Now that they only allow two waitlists a person must call in order to check on any other categories that they cannot currently waitlist. I believe that the point was to limit the CM work load on filling waitlists - not to reduce the number of calls. What they did could only increase the number of calls.

This waitlist change occurred after BLT was on sale (and thus AKV was open). I think it happened at the time of the first reallocation announcement in Jan of 2009. I understand what you are saying and agree that it would be nice for those resorts that do have multiple room categories.

Let me also add - that I think that a VWL waitlist for a 2BR only gets you either the dedicated or the lock-off variation depending on what you specifiy. Those are guaranteed categories so each should count as one.

I'm on a wait list to go from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom in October at BLT. Actually...I'm on 2 wait lists for a 2 bedroom MK view.

1) Dedicated 2 bedroom
2) Lock off 2 bedroom

So there may be 2 separate lists for the 2 bedrooms per category? Not sure...

The problem started with people waitlisting day by day. They couldn't get all the days they wanted when they made the reservation so they were allowed to books the individual days and waitlist all the other days to get a complete vacation. So if they were able to get everything but the first night, last night and one night in the middle, they would waitlist for those three days and maybe even waitlist for another resort for the entire vacation.

People complain about the waitlist now and not getting the days they need, I can only imagine the problems back then. If you waitlist for any resort view in a specific size villa, in a specific resort, it goes back to the original situation where it's hard to match the days needed.

And if they are trying to fix the wait list program, it only gets more complicated when they allow members to waitlist all sorts of categories.

The first mistake DVC made was breaking out the two different categories at BWV. The next was breaking out booking categories at OKW. Thank goodness for VWL, BCV and SSR. No different categories at those resorts.

I agree with Deb & Bill. They should have never divided into catagories. I agree some views are way better then others but the complexity of having multiple views is part of what has caused so much problems. IMHO. I wish it was simply room size and you got what you got and I own at BLT and AKV. I say they assign the rooms as the ressies are made and if I call first I have a better chance at a MK view at BLT then if I wait til a month before my trip. And that being said if I have points in holding and make the ressies 60 days in advance I am looking at a dumpster.

Does anyone have "factual" details of the refurb that I keep reading about that just started at OKW? I will be staying there the first week of December and would love to know if any of the buildings will be completed by then.
