I tried to make ressies two weeks ago only to find out that EVERY DVC property is booked Tuesday - Sunday. I had the CSR put my name on the waiting list at every resort. Is fallout fairly common at the 30-day window? Hoping to get something!

Sending Pixie Dust your way for waitlist to come through. Thanksgiving is a busy time in general for all of WDW. We go the day after usually and the parks are full until around noon on Sun.

We are also trying to go TG week and not only is DVC booked, but almost all the regular rooms as well! We're actually contemplating switching to the week after because we don't even want to be there if it's going to be THAT crowded! :sad2:

Most members make their Thanksgiving reservations in late December at the 11 months time frame to make sure they get what they want. There probably is already a long waiting list for those days, so even if you called 30 days out, they may be gone to the wait list.

We will be there that week and made our reservations at the 11 month mark. That week is very busy with DVC. Good luck with your waitlist. :)

Hope spring eternal.
If I was betting on this I say chances are 90% you will not get in.

Scott,

Where you surprised by this? I would have been shocked if there was availability.

Why not take this opportuntiy to try one of the off site resorts? I'd be happy to suggest some if you would like.

We went the Friday after Thanksgiving last year and it was a nightmare! We wanted to take the kids for a day before our DCL cruise - bad idea. Wall to wall people at MK by noon. I guess we are just to spoiled traveling in January and September. Never again for us!

Wall to wall people-yuck! not my idea of fun with our 3 small kids. We were planning on arriving the friday before TG and leaving on TG day in hopes of avoiding those kinds of crowds, but from what I've been hearing lately :surfweb: it seems that the few days before and after TG will be packed.
Big Bummer

I have been on the wait list for awhile for Thanksgiving. I do not expect to get it at all, so I gladly paid cash for a 2 bedroom BCV! We have 8 traveling with us, so I was sooo estactic to be able to get THAT! 2 rooms at the Beach Club would have worked, but we are spoiled by DVC & all that extra room! I would definately try to make a cash reservation someplace if you can, because I doubt it comes thru.

Are the crowds bad at the beining of the week too? Our DS is planning a wedding for early in the week at WDW next year during TG, and I was hoping the crowds weren't going to get unbearable until about Wednesday. ANyone have any experience along those lines?

We made our ressies back at 11 months for our "home" at BWV, then waitlisted for the weekend before (thru Tues) at BCV at the 7 month mark. We ended up for a while with ressies at both places until all of the nights we wanted at BCV came thru, but fortunately had the points for that. In the end we are in a 1BR at BCV 11/18-11/21 and on to a BWV std view 1BR 11/21-11/27 -nine wonderful days at WDW, and missing only 3 days of school.

Last year I helped friends put up thier whole family at SSR in a 2BR and two Studios. I started trying for ressies in late May and didn't have all of their nights until the end of August.

The point is, Thxgiving, along with the Xmas holidays and Easter/ Spring Break are times that are going to book up, and book up early. I expect six weeks out will be near-impossible to get anything. I am with Dumbo71, and would be surprised if there was anything at six weeks out. From the OP's (swich2mac) Signature line, it appears that they are new to the complexities of DVC reservations strategy, so we'll do our best to get you trained and in shape to get the ressies you want in future years.

Good luck (and Welcome Home swich2mac, BTW)

Oh well, never hurts to try now does it? We have been to WDW (3) times since the end of May and I guess that I was just overlooking the complexities of holiday accommodations since we were able to book DVC properties with no trouble. Buzzer, food, salivation! I have heard mixed reviews on the crowd meter during Thanksgiving week. Some say it is manageable while others say it is a nightmare. Which week is busier, Christmas or Thanksgiving?

I moved back to Florida 3 years ago, prior to living here we used to come during thanksgiving week and found it wonderful, up until thanksgiving day and the following weekend. Now we will never go during thanksgiving week, why?, too crowded all week. One reason is the local schools from all over Florida have the whole week of thanksgiving off. So more crowds all week. The best time to go now (if you like to see christmas decorations) are the first two weeks of December. :wizard:

Many other schools in the Southeast get the entire week of Thanksgiving too. I have friends in TN, AL, GA, and LA and their schools are out that week.

Thanksgiving is very busy, Christmas week is packed. Some days parks will be closed to capacity as early as 11am.

We have been twice during Thanksgiving week and it was the same both times - the weeknd before was not very crowded, then as the week progressed, it became more crowded every day. We avoided the parks Thanksgiving Day, and got to the parks early the rest of our time there. It is still very managable - not as bad as the summer.

We have never been at Christmas, but go quite often at Thanksgiving. Crowds are high, but not as high as Spring Break, which is another time we have gone. We have found, however, that if you get to the parks before they open, the crowds do not get unmanageable until about lunch time.

I have ressies at BWV for the week of Thanksgiving. Very excited, yeah for me and good luck to the rest of you!!!

We are from Hattiesburg originally but moved to Nashville 3 years ago. Both my wife and I went to USM. Small world.......
