DVC studios - fewer amenities

I think so, too. Great job!:goodvibes

Me too!

P.S.: I emailed my guide and he offered to BUY me a coffee cup . . . . I promptly emailed him back and said that wasn't the point . . . . :upsidedow :

Not unless he's willing to buy you two coffee cups, 4 glasses and a bottle of dish soap each time you visit and have them delivered to your studio at the start of every stay.

actually--to give him credit--he just called me (he's been on vacation) and was seeing if I was really serious about my emails. When he found out I was perturbed by the DVC change he indicated he was going to pass on the fact that the membership IS upset to his boss--he also indicated that it was a decision made out of health reasons--and I reminded him that I grew up in a 900 square foot house with NO dishwasher and somehow managed not to get poisoned by dirty dishes . . . .I also told him about the dish soap issue . . . .

I haven't read all 67 pages so forgive me if this has been asked already.

The last time we stayed in a non-DVC resort we had actual glasses and ceramic mugs. Wouldn't the mugs & glasses in the DVC units be cleaned and replaced just like at the non-DVC resorts - taken to an area in the resort to be put through a large washer? Aren't the used glasses and mugs at the non-DVC resorts replaced with fresh ones from the mousekeeping carts in between guests? Why is that practice ok for non-DVC resorts but not DVC studios?

If this were truly for HEALTH reasons, wouldn't they be delivering sealed-from-the-manufacturer stacks of cups, not loose from bulk, touched by who knows, exposed to who knows what cups?

Squirrly . . . . you're preaching to the choir on this one!

They would be between guests, but unless you get daily mousekeeping or pay for more T&T, they only get changed every 4th day. Maybe. So there is probably where the health issue is coming from.

That is what I mean - between guests. I can live with washing out my own mug or glass, as I have a sponge and soap, for the 4+ days that I'm in a studio, but how would replacing them between guests be different at the DVC resorts as opposed to the non-DVC resorts? If people want fresh glasses/mugs while staying it should be an option, just like paying for extra mousekeeping, extra towels, etc. but don't take them out completely.

There is no dishwasher . You only have a small wet bar sink you have A microwave but no stove .

Hell paper cups and plactic forks and paper napkins Not a problem for me .

I think it makes sence that you do not have actual glass ware and pots and pans and the whole kitchen sink.

I normaly get a 1 brm or a 2 brm I think they are merely tring to make the studio what it is in my mind the lowest level of stay.

This is my 2 cent Now that i have said it I will get flamed by everyone for saying it.

SO keep the flames down please

we still pay the same level of dues per point so why should we settle for less :)

But this is something that should be expected it is a studio for gods sake!

If they want to be deluxe then spend the points for a one BDR and poof your deluxe

I fail to see the actaul ablity to push this point. It is like saying why doesn't a studio have a whril pool tub.

Or a washer and dryer

How do i post a picture so i can show you want the guides say..

you need to use spell checker before you try to post pictures, your arguments have been proved to be wrong in your own words for gods sake let it go

We stayed in 2 different studios one at OKW and one at SSR since the change was made. There was dishwashing liquid and sponges in each unit. There were no ceramic mugs or real glasses in either. While walking to DTD from SSR we did notice 6 glasses thrown into the bushes at various locations along the path up near the bridge before you get to the marketplace end of DTD. It appeared that there had been recent groundskeeping around that area so they were probably recent - late Feb additions to the landscape. Wonder if there have been so many missing that this is also a factor.

We also went to mousesurplus and there were black mugs and "rocks" glasses for sale at 4/$1. Almost bought some just to have them for next trip.

I really hated the way my tea tasted in the styrofoam cup so went out and bought a ceramic one while we were visiting friends in Palmetto during the middle of the trip.

I know they don't have ceramic mugs and glasses in the All Stars Family Suites, but they do have them (at least they used to have them) in the Ft Wilderness Cabins. Have they been removed from the other resorts? If not, why not? If this is a health issue, it should be a health issue at the GF, YC, BC, Polynesian, CR, etc.

Don't the cabins have dishwashers? i can't remember cause we are always in our RV when we're at the fort.

Yes, the FW cabins do have dishwashers along with amongst other things, dinnerware and cutlery for six. For a full description of what is there:

Soooo if you are camping at FW *Campground* in a cabin, you will be provided with a kettle, knives, mugs, glasses, plates, bowls and metal cutlery, but if you stay in a studio at a DVC resort if you want any of these things you have to BYO! :confused3

Still no response to my email to DVC Member Satisfaction (address: dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com), other than the original automated response. I have already sent a letter to DVC President Jim Lewis. Today I sent off a letter snail mail to Kris McNamara, Vice President, Corporate Environmental Policy.
I thought she should know I find it troubling that Disney is promoting itself as a green company (most recently for the benefit of DVC members in the latest issue of Disney Files  ), but DVC has made the brilliant  move to provide disposables in place of reusable equipment in studio villas at all DVC resorts.

So, I gotta know - how is the carafe on the coffee maker going to be cleaned, with no dish soap and sponge?

IF (and that's a big if) the decision was made for health reasons, why do glass cups and/or mugs remain in other Deluxe accomodations.... That's what I want DVC to answer.

I've not received a response within 5 business days, so I sent another email this morning.

he also indicated that it was a decision made out of health reasons--and I reminded him that I grew up in a 900 square foot house with NO dishwasher and somehow managed not to get poisoned by dirty dishes . . . .I also told him about the dish soap issue . . . .

I'm not advocating the change here, but the other deluxe resorts have the capablility to use the dishwasher, and thuse sterilize the cups, utensils, etc. This takes Disney out of the legal loop.

Absolutely....it's just gross...

Yes.....I tend to think mousekeeping will send it up though.....imagine the
cash paying guest who is used to "deluxe" accomodations can't even
get a coffee mug....When they give DVC a test run?
Kerri

This is just DVC being cheap.

How is it being cheap? If anything, it is costing more. How many plastic cups = the cost of a mug? A mug stays for a long time....where the plastic cups get thrown away and need to be replaced.

Now, one thing we may consider, is maybe mugs disappear from the unit, and DVC feels it is less costly to replace with plastic. (but this would be happening in the bigger units also)

I wish DVC would really enforce the timeshare checklist. Every timeshare I have been to, there is a checklist of what is supplied in the unit. On check-in day, we go through the unit, and make sure everything is there. If anything is missing, we call housekeeping and report it missing, and they replace it. They charge the previous guest for the missing items, at least that is what they say they do.

Why can't Disney do this?
