DVC studios - fewer amenities

this whole thing is so mindblowing......

I just have one question.

How is it that POR, CBR, POFQ and CSR......gets mugs and glasses....
all they have is a toilet and bathroom sink.

We have a "kitchenette" and we get paper, plastic....etc...

THIS IS WHY I AM COMPLETELY PISSED OFF

Again, that would require daily mousekeeping if sanitary standards are what is the root of the change.

I don't think it's the sanitary issue during visits that were being referred to, but the job of cleaning between visits that's the problem. I've read many threads about poor housekeeping, especially with dirty mugs and glasses, and the expose of the poor housekeeping at the CR could be what started the ball rolling, maybe, but who knows. I still think they are just starting with DVC and this policy could easily spread to all resorts for 'sanitary' reasons. I still say it's a knee jerk reaction to poor housekeeping that they can't or won't address.

I just sent another email to the Satisfaction Team (I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at this title right now) which was much more scathing than my first. That will be the 3rd email to come from our household since Saturday. I've decided that I will send one every day until we get some time of explanation, or better yet things get reversed and mugs/glasses are put back!

I think the idea of advising the Florida Dept of Environmental Protection and giving a scoop to the media is a great idea. Public pressure does wonders for changing policy.

I have to say I think we had styrofoam coffee cups at POR and POFQ last year(glasses for water though). I didn't think anything of it then, but in this case we are supposed to be in more deluxe home away from home resorts with a small kitchenette.

I sent an e-mail to Member Services through the link on dvcmember.com last Monday (3/10/08). Since the five days they promised have passed and I haven't heard anything back, I sent a real live snail-mail letter to Jim Lewis this morning.

I have to laugh about the 'sanitary' aspect of this argument. At OKW, and I presume at SSR (never been there yet) they have those little housekeeping closets outside in each building. Are we to presume that they keep the plates and cups in those buildings? The buildings where housekeeping leaves the doors open on occasion. In florida, where there are lots of bugs outside. I think I'd rather hand wash a glass than take a risk on exposed paper plates and cups, thank you.

I called the front desk at VB to ask about requesting wine glasses - as we've done in the past - and if they would be provided. They said yes we could ask for and receive wine glasses, but no regular glasses would be provided...curious. I'm glad not to have to pack wine glasses...but not sure what the rationale is then in getting rid of the regular glasses...

So exactly where is the rationale in this?? You can get a wine glass, but not a regular glass?? Are wine glasses by nature more sanitary than regular glasses?? Maybe it is the alcohol that sanitizes them. :confused3

Oh well, I can drink OJ or milk from a wine glass, so that is one problem solved. Still have to figure out a work around for the coffee mug....

Some of these are not deluxe resorts. Do we know for sure there are no styrofoam in these rooms? There was a mix of glass and styrofoam at BWI.

I know not all of the resorts listed are deluxe;) . My point is that if non-DVC resorts can supply their guests with actual glasses/mugs and still find a way to clean those glasses in between guests why is it that DVC resorts can not do the same?

Wow. DVC is making a Huge Assumption that Housekeeping runs the dinnerware, each piece of it, through the All Knowing All Powerful Dishwasher each time a 1- 2- or 3 bedroom villa turns over.

Huge. Huge assumption.

And we all know what happens when you assume. :scared1:

That was why I asked the question much earlier in this thread--where are the dishes when you check into a one or two bedroom unit? In the cupboard or in the dishwashwer? I would 'THINK' that if Mousekeeping ran them through a dishwasher cycle they would all be in the dishwasher for the new visitor to put away--I wouldn't think that Mousekeeping would make two trips to each unit between visitors--one to load the dishwasher and one to put the dishes away. I was told the dishes/glasses/mugs are in the cupboard.

So really, a "new visitor" has no way of knowing in a one or two bedroom unit what cleaning of dishes/mugs/glasses has occurred. . . . . . why should it be any different for a studio?

The dishes in a check in for a 1,2 or 3 bedroom (at least in my experience) are in the cabinets upon check in. I have never found dishes in the dishwasher. I am certain that Housekeeping comes in and loads the dishwasher, starts it and goes about cleaning the villa.

Checked into OKW studio March 2. I called housekeeping to request mugs and glasses and was told that studios didn't get them. I told her, "but the previous guests had them, because their dirty ones are still setting outside of our door". She said "OK, I'll bring you 2 of each". When she arrived, she had more styrofoam cups and told us that we were not permitted to have mugs and glasses. So, after looking at your picture, maybe they have already decided to reverse their policy.

so what happens if we bring our own will they try to take them of us as we are not permitted these items:rotfl2:

I have old grocery order lists from both BCV and BWV, and neither of those have disposable cups on them.

If this is all a reaction to housekeeping not doing their job - I for one - don't appreciate conveniences of home being removed because housekeeping finds replacing glassware to be too taxing for them. Especially when dues do nothing but rise.

so are dvc saying that in studios we get a lesser standard of cleaning than other size rooms, as this is what it appears to me if only studios are to loose mugs and glasses if so then the management team needs a good sort out i will not be prepared to take this my dues cost the same as anyone elses per point why should we be expected to drink out of plastic in my home away from home dvc need to sort this out quickly.

I was bothered by this change when I first heard about this a week or so ago. I just came across this thread today.
Part of what turned my husband and I into DVC owners was seeing the amenities like the ceramic mugs, metal utensils, toaster, microwave and plates in the rooms.
We received at complementary upgrade from the Coronado Springs to Saratoga Springs Studio last October. It was experiencing the difference between the other resorts and a DVC resort that made us take the plunge in buying into DVC after "thinking" about it for over 10 years.

Our studio stay was fabulous and I could not imagine staying in anything less that a studio room after that. We utilized all the utensils, glassware, toaster, coffee pot and microwave and every day we washed our dishes and put them away in the drawers and cabinets. It made me feel like it truly was our home away from home.

I sent an email to DVC and expressed my unhappiness with this new policy of disposable dinnerware.

Have disposable cups always been on the order form for groceries (I checked OKW) or is this a new addition?
Wow! How great is that? This must be for the benefit of 1BR and larger villas...seeing that they are not providing those fabulous disposable cups there *yet*... Probably added them to the grocery list because of the tremendous response they have received after providing them in the studios. Wouldn't want anyone to have to make do without them. And to think the lucky guests in the studios get them at no extra charge!

"Just Back From BWI - Upgraded to BWV

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings!

Just back from a week at the BWI. At check-in we were upgraded (free) to a 1 bedroom villa at the DVC at the BW!

It was awesome~

Any questions -- please ask. "

Just copied this from resorts board...

Nice upgrade....I'm thinking even BWI knows a studio is not "deluxe" so
they had to upgrade to the 1BR;)
Kerri

It would be interesting to know if, because he was upgraded from the Inn and therefore is a paying guest, he had daily housekeeping. And how often housekeeping washed the dishes during his stay, LOL! :rotfl:

'round and 'round we go on the Carousel of DVC Policy.popcorn::
