DVC studios - fewer amenities

I've also written to Member Services through the link provided on dvcmember.com, expressing my displeasure with this new policy. In the meantime, I'll be taking two ceramic mugs with me to leave in my Owner's Locker on my next trip.

Much ado about nothing IMHO

not if you stay in studio.

especially those tiny styrofoam cups - it is smaller than a cup.

besides the thing that is really, really WRONG is when DVC members complaint and get told by the staff (WHO DEFINITELY KNOW BETTER) it is always been that way.

pretty bad picture - but it definitely shows the 2 glasses and mug.

the other 2 glasses and mug were being used.:woohoo:

I was just on the phone with a very pleasant CM at MS to cancel one of my reservations and check on another.

I'm staying in a studio for 14 days this October so asked about this new policy. She said her note was that the mugs and glasses were being phased out, but it didn't say how many cups were provided. She said you were free to grab extra cups at the counter service stations or ask for more. No word on extra charges.

We got into a discussion about extra towels and replenishing. I have yet to stay in a study for more than a couple days so I'm suspicious of the wash cloth situation. I'm one who tends to go through two wash cloths in two days and my dad will take the other two. I like a clean wash cloth when I shower and find used ones icky. Usually I ask for extra when I stay in hotels just in case the maid forgets to replenish the same number. I don't like the idea of Disney charging for them. It's not like I'm taking those wash cloths home.

As for the cup situation, I tend to bring my refillable mug along as well as some bottled soda. I've microwaved those mugs without issue and just washed them out for reuse. I don't see it bugging me too much. But I do expect the self service stations to get raided of supplies more frequently. I already stock up on straws, utensils, napkins, condiments, wipes, etc. But I forget if they had extra paper plates too.

most of the counter service does not have cups. now the check out counters do - but they expect you to pay.

so what counter service is she talking about?

dvc resorts are not moderate or value.

OKW has snack bar - it definitely does not have cups.

BWV or BCV does not either.

so where are the extra cups that we are surpose to be able to get?

maybe I should call MS - and ask them.

I thought SSR's Artist's Palette had them.

I see that if you call the Disney florist, they will deliver 2 DVC mugs to your room for only $65. Also included in that price is a Mickey shaped container, 2 oranges and some tea! -- Suzanne

Good idea Suzanne. Some mind find that a little pricey although I do like flowers in my room!

What about some sort of a 'starter kit' that people keep in their Owner's Locker or even that OL could offer as an additional service? I have something like that in my suitcase for when I travel to non-Orlando destinations, and keep items in my OL

I don't like the paper plates in a studio anyways, so have some more durable plates and cutlery which I then wash.

So now, if you need extra cups, you are supposed to go get them yourself, and take them from a counter service restaurant. It just keeps getting better and better. While we're at it, why don't we just hit the fixin's bars at some of the counter services restaurants and dump the sauteed mushrooms and pickles in a plastic bag for snacking later too? :goodvibes

Seriously, won't the mousekeeping costs rise (and ulitimately cost the members more in annual dues if we have to pay for staff to run back and forth around the resorts with paper cups and de-luxe styrofoam coffee cups when people run out? :confused3

I do carry metal utensils but that's more for my special needs.

One thing you can do is pick up some plates in China at EPCOT. We have a selection of the things for use at home. They don't break, are easy to wash and will go in the microwave. Made of that stuff I can't remember.

It really shouldn't bug me. I hardly used the in-room stuff anyway. About the only thing I'd miss is a bowl for cereal, but then they didn't give you that anway. Oh well, looks like China to the rescue. I see a shopping spree in my future.

YOU are paying for a vacation interest...........

I have to agree that this new policy stinks. I do no use "Styrofoam" cups. Nor do I intend to start. I consider myself to be conservation minded but find that many of Disney's conservation initiatives leave me baffled. Due to past experience with unclean glassware & mugs in the DVC units I got in the habit of just cleaning everything myself when I arrived in the room. I called Mousekeeping once to complain about the unclean glasses. They sent someone who proceeded to stand at the sink and wash the glasses. I had expected someone to arrive with clean items to replace the dirty ones. As for expecting plastic glasses & styrofoam cups to last your entire stay, forget about it. I regularly hoard plastic knives, forks & spoons from the CS resturaunts because mousekeeping rarely if ever replenishes these items on either trash & towel or full cleaning days. I hide the leftover Plates & bowls in the hopes of receiving replacements. If the stated maximun occupancy per studio room 4 people there should be at least 4 plates, 4 bowls, four glasses, 4 cups, 4 knives, 4 spoons, 4 forks, etc. supplied per person per night. Don't even get me started on the towel issue. We are paying for Deluxe accomodations and receiving less than those who stay at the value resorts.

Ok here is different twist.

I am not for or against it . I just do not see it as a end all fight.

SOrt of like when your kids and you have a disagreement you need to pick your battles wisely and fighting over a studio having glassware or coffee mug is not a fight I think DVc members should put there all into .

We let them take perks we let them change the ddp and yet we fight of a Damn papper cup..

If we did unite we would still not fight the disney mechine.

SO pick out battle wisely is a better approach them quibling over a papper cup.

The DDP is not a DVC program, discounts and "perks" change often. These things can change.

The mugs and glasses were part of the furnishings we were sold, they were a part of the unit we purchased. They were in the models, just like the beds, the draperies, and the chairs. That is how it was represented at the time of purchase. There is a big difference.

The "Vacation Interest" I bought into was presented as the equivalent of the Disneyworld Resort Deluxe Accomodations. I'm not getting what I paid for and haven't for a number of years now. When do you think that all the little things they've taken away over the years add up to enough to start complaining about?

SUBJECT to CHANGE at ANYTIME!!

This is a change not well liked but a change

I sent an email. I also included (as just a suggestion) that having small laundry basket in each studio would help transporting it to the laundry room and storage since studios are lacking in it. Of course that was just an idea to put out there.

Not like the glasses and mugs that not only were always there, but are in all other rooms in deluxe and mod resorts.

I don't see the need to pick my battles at all. I think we are DVC members and if we are not happy we need to express that so they can have feedback and if possible makes changes. So far as a member I have felt DVC does care about our comfort while staying in the resorts and our opinions on how they can improve things. :)

I feel very strongly that this is a decision which negatively impacts the environment as well as ownership. I am fighting for the environmental issues.

Frankly, I struggle with your use of language here but I may be misinterpreting your posts as English is not my first language.

Disney does not own these resorts, they are acting as property management for them. And, not everything is subject to change. The number of beds are not subject to change. The decor may change, but there are certain items in the rooms that were defined on our paper work, room capacity being one. Disney is too used to just doing what they want, when they want to. You are right this is an ownership interest in a resort. Key word ownership. Did you know we could fire Disney as the management company of the resort? Not that would be wise or easy thing to do, it it is something that could be done. We, the members own those properties. Disney is supposed be managing the property for the members.

I have a question. Will our dues go up because now they have to purchase more paper and styrofoam products for our use? :confused3 The mugs and glasses were already paid for and could be used over and over again. Has anyone asked MS about this question?
