DVC studios - fewer amenities

The temp of coffe from a normal coffee pot is around 125-130 you will not get burned from that .(NICE TRY)

Wine from a paper cup or from a glass or from a plastic cup is still wine it taste the same.......

OMG people let it go ..

No it does not! Not only that, it is not very conservation minded.
I don't mind paper plates, but I absolutely can't stand to drink from styrofoam!

It is one of those little things that make a big difference to some of us vacationing there.

Just wait till the timeshare competition gets hold of this info. "With us you get real dishes, Disney gives you cardboard, plastic and styrofoam."

I do not get this you merly that you were in a studio.

You do not get glass ware or pots and pans or real dishes they have always been paper BWV BCV all do the same thing and have for years.

Just like you do not get a washer and dryer.

You had glasses because the studio you stayed in was a lock off and someone had it as a two bedrrom and mousekeeping did not do there job.

Plain and simple it is not a big change you just took notice

This is not true! I was not in a lock off at BWV & OKW in 2005 when we first rented and we had glasses and mugs.
We were at SSR & BCV last summer, also not in a lock off, and had glasses and mugs!

While Disney likes us to believe they are trying to be green, I have always seen the re-using towels scenario to be a cost saving move on their part. Think of all the detergent, water, and manpower they save by convincing us that re-using towels is something Disney would like to do for the environment.

And I'm totally fine with this! I don't mind reusing my own towel for a few days. We do this at home. Everyone has there own towel and they hang it up when they are done. It saves on the envirement and on the towels themselves! But I want my glasses and mugs!

Also this is not what we were sold. Otherwise it is false advertising after seeing posts of pictures of ceramic mugs, and glassware in model units of studios.

I am in a regular studio at BWV not lock off and we had mugs when we checked in on Feb 26...... at our first clean in March the Mugs and glasses were removed with no explaination..and they are not very good at replenishing the supply on long stay...I have 1 paper plate left. They have never added to what I received at check in. :goodvibes

hey that is a good one. Maybe the guides are reading and someone will tell DVC that is not a good solution.

wouldn't a good solution be to provide both....that way if you are worried you can use paper and if you want wash your own ,you have glasses and mugs or at the least be able to ask and get them...Carol

This actually worked out in the benefit of all the Hotel industry. Most Hotels now offer that you can have your towels cleaned every day, by dropping them in the tub or whatever, or reusing them. The change was not Hotel driven, but consumer driven...a lot of "green" people felt that it was a waste for the hotels to use that much water and detergent for a towel they didn't mind reusing. The Hotels recognized this as a win-win for them, it saved them time/money/labor and people saw it as being "green". Pretty much all Hotels will still wash your stuff every day if that is what you want.

On a side note, it seems we have gotten stuck on that they are using "styrofoam", I am not sure this is true or if this thread just ended up adopting that belief. I find it surprising because I don't know of any Hotel chain that uses styrofoam cups, but almost all use the plastic cups that are individually wrapped. While this is in no way "deluxe", it is slightly better than styrofoam.

The OP mentioned styrofoam and not nuking them and then in post 11 someone who is at the BW now was offered a foam cup. Since the OP seemed to correct about most everything else so far, as reported by numerous people writing e-mails to MS I have no reason to doubt them. I've stayed at numerous hotel chains in the past that had styrofoam cups near the coffeemaker.

Your right, I forgot about the coffee, that couldn't go in the plastic. I don't drink coffee, so I guess I pay less attention to that part of the room... Maybe it is a combo of both in each unit, some for coffee some for regular drinks.

I can see it now, 50 mugs and glass swap threads.

One more thing...I wonder if the AKV studio sample is still the same? Someone, please, check it out!

This is very annoying to me, and I prob. have stayed in studios 5% of the time. It doesn't matter. It degrades the value of the whole property plus if I get a two bedroom lockoff with friends they're going to get treated like second class citizens.

It's time to stop expanding and maintain the properties they have. I don't care if they have to remove every cup and glass from every studio every time they clean and put new ones in their place (like the idea of them wrapped in plastic so you know they're clean). Old glasses/mugs onto a cart, new glasses/mugs into the studio. How much time does this add to the total clean-up?

We've been members since '96, and we have a "Disney box" for when we stayed in studios that included glass cups, wine glasses, as well as real silverware and plates.

Way back then, it seems like everything in the studios was paperware except the water glasses.

Still, I think this is a LOUSY change. We just stayed in an SSR studio last month, and I appreciated the glassware. Ours even had wine glasses.

you know something seems to be working my automatic email says

'Please note: Based on the nature of
your comments or questions, we may need to forward your message to other
Walt Disney Company affiliates or nonaffiliated third party service
providers. '

do you think this decision was made by WDW resorts and not DVC resorts?

Just sent off my email to ms.....lets see when I get a response.

The whole idea seems so pathetically cheap....I cannot believe they would do this and still be trying to sell more units.

I can see it......buy at AKV or Contemp and have real glasses;) \

Ok--here's an evil thought--there was some t.v. show (Jericho?) that was canceled and brought back by the network because fans inundated the network with peanuts . . . .

what if we all mail a package of styrofoam cups to Member Services since apparently DVC is hurting so bad financially that they can't supply "real" glassware/mugs to studios . . . . ?

Excellent idea. Since peanuts worked for Jericho, how about we send scads of styrofoam peanuts to Member Services?
