DVC studios - fewer amenities

but believe some of the 'it isn't such a big change' - are working for Disney.

or they are so rich that they haven't had to stay in a studio.

I'm neither but I'm not bent out of shape over this. I can see the reason for switching to disposables. It is more sanitary.

And studio users tend not to do much eating in the room. Plus, you have that refillable mug you can reuse. Just make your coffee in the pot and pour. Or go visit the refill stations and get a top up.

My only concern is that without daily maid service there's no opportunity to replenish used supplies. I expect DVC will feel this complaint the most and will have to change policies. Perhaps put extra cups in the unit or make them available at the self serve stations. Heck, maybe they'll start giving out welcome mugs to all members at check-in. "Hello, welcome home and here's your own personal mug for the occasion."

Ok, I can dream. Still, I doubt some plastic coffee mugs would be all that expensive. The fast food places were selling them for $0.50 not long ago. (I still have a collection of them.)

Like I siad then we each own a nail

The point is it is all SUBJECT TO CHANGE ..

We did all sign that at closing we did all agree to that ..

And again, legally, it is not ALL subject to change. They can not, for example, replace the queen beds with full beds, they are not equivalent under FL law. They can not just remove the TVs.

They can replace VHS machine with DVD, as they serve the same purpose. They could not replace the video machine with a popcorn maker, and call it entertainment.

A ceramic mug and styrofoam cup both hold liquid, but the quality usefulness for hot liquids is not the same. Foam can melt, ceramic will not. Foam can not stand up to repeated uses, ceramic is pretty much permanent, unless dropped.

A few posters have suggested that if you really want a ceramic mug, just go out and buy one (either at the gift shop, or go get a cheap one). Sorry, but I feel like I've paid enough for DVC and I really resent the idea of having to pay any more money.

And then some here will tell us to go buy soap, shampoo, towels, and sheets (hopefully it never reaches that point, but if enough people do not stand up it may end up there...)

bavaria - not sure.

take your pick.

I stay in studios alot and this will definitely hurt me.

I am not rich, don't have a ton of points (160 to be exact) and will be staying in studios throughout our ownership (not exclusively) but I don't see this has a "huge" deal and completely horrible. I don't necessarily like it, but I didn't like the paper plates and plastic forks either! I think this is going to be revealed as an across the board change to all disney properties (at least at WDW) and that it will be fighting an uphill battle. I think DVC units should be treated differently than hotel units and maybe should keep real cups/glasses (and get real dishes too), but that is something for them to figure out. I don't disagree with anyone who sends an email and will go on record as not "liking" this change, but it isn't one that I feel I need to fight to death over either. Its not like they have changed DVC substantially or even impacted it in a "real" way.

And for the record I don't work for Disney. I guess my thought is that I will always have the plastic refillable mugs anyway, so the use of the glasses won't be necessary, even if I just refill the mugs in my room when I don't feel like leaving. With that being said, I think they should leave the soap alone, we need that if we are staying for long periods of time!

I am in a regular studio at BWV not lock off and we had mugs when we checked in on Feb 26...... at our first clean in March the Mugs and glasses were removed with no explaination..and they are not very good at replenishing the supply on long stay...I have 1 paper plate left. They have never added to what I received at check in. :goodvibes

This concerns me a little bit...because the first part of our vacation this summer will be 11 nights at BWV!

It says nothing about cups and glasses in that offering at all ..

If it does post it here..

Hell the list of stuff in a a unit says fully equiped kitchen foir a one bdr and a 2 bdr

It says nothing to the fact for a studio

So show me in writting where it says glasses ,mugs.

That's my point.
If it's not in there (I never said it was), we have no true, leagally binding recourse. Glassware is just a perk that can come and go. :smokin:

Do y'all want to be really confused? We're staying at Old Key West in a Studio right now. I just took a picture of our cabinets...

And if I move the styrofoam just a little bit to the left...

Talk about being confused! Which is it now? Taking them out and replacing them or leaving them in?

They could not replace the video machine with a popcorn maker, and call it entertainment.

Actually, I believe that would be called the microwave. Oh come on, tell me you've never caught yourself watching the bag puff up.

My favorite activity as a kid was watching my mom load up the popcorn maker on the kitchen table and see the kernals dance.

Uh, I don't think bed sizes and configurations are specifically mentioned in the POS, either. Should they change to all single beds?

"Club level get daily mousekeeping"

The only DVC resort that has a "Club" level is Animal Kingdom.

The amenities listing is "Subject to change" but nowhere does any of it say plastic utensils, paper plates, paper bowls, plastic glassware or styrofoam coffee cups. The wording for Kitchens is "Dishware, glasses, coffee cups and flatware service for eight (service for 12 in three-bedroom Vacation Homes)". Unfortunately they do not go into the details of what is provided in a Studio Kitchenette.

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect equivalent supplies made of the same or similar materials but in a smaller number equal to the Stated Maximum Occupancy per room. I am paying the same dues per point no matter what size room I book and should not be treated like a second class citizen for choosing to maximize my points usage by staying in a studio.

Thank god OKW hasn't drunk the kool-aid, yet.

I don't think that they specifically mention the bathrooms in the POS specifically either. They don't mention them in the member website under studio amenities. (Strangely they say the OKW studio has a dry bar. Maybe they plan on taking the sink out?)

Studio (sleeps 4)

Kitchenette with microwave, mini-refrigerator, dry bar and coffee maker
Two queen-size beds
TV
Private porch or balcony

Why not gut the bathrooms, make them just a big closet and Disney can build outhouses over there next to the golfcourse? Or you can walk to the pools and go and take care of business there? How magical.. :wizard:

As much fun to make as it is to eat. :rotfl2:

SO they did nothing wrong by your own admission

Although in the scheme of life this is a small thing, it is a symptom of the gradually downgrading of most businesses, and that includes Disney.
More sanitary? Then I guess all the restaurants should go to disposable if Disney doesn't have the ability to properly wash items. Paper sheets? Easier than washing, how about instant coffee..would do away with all those pesky coffee makers.
The point is this is a labor/cost move, and it's a slipperly slope. Maybe THIS particular change doesn't bother you, but the next one might..and there will be more. It's a slow decay of service. If people don't speak up, pretty soon we'll be staying in Motel 6 equivalents. I've worked for these kinds of corporations and there has to be a point where you look at the quality your guests expect and realize you have to pay to keep that level where you want it to be.
Maybe they want DVC to be looked at as second rate, but I don't think so.
I've written my letter to member services.

I stay exclusively in studios, and this is not a huge change for me. First off, having worked in the hotel business, I cringe when I drink out of a mug wondering if it was cleaned with windex and rinsed. I worked in a luxury hotel in Orlando for years, and trust me, I saw this done as regular practice. Granted, there is nothing "deluxe" about styrofoam cups, but I feel a lot better drinking out of those than the others. I can appreciate why some feel like its "not what they paid for," but I know for a fact I didnt look in the cabinets of the model to see if it was plastic or glass cups. I was too busy checking out the flat panel TV:lmao: :thumbsup2

No, you ignored the last sentence.

Paper and styrofoam are not equivalent in usefulnes or quality.

Seriously? Why are you so adamant about this? Some people are upset and rightfully so. While not many do meals in their studios there are quite a few that do. Plus, you have to fill those darn cups like 3 times to get the equivalent to a full size glass.
