Many years ago, I worked for a large (currently well-known) hotel in DC. One of the things that mid-level and senior staff was asked to do was to periodically spend a night or a weekend in the hotel. The purpose of this was to evaluate the good, the bad, and the ugly of the guest experience. Jim Lewis and whatever brain trust came up with this sanitation, aka money saving, idea needs to spend a week in a studio, preferably with a couple of young children. Let's see how well he likes styrofoam, plastic, and paper. He needs to experience his fine wine or single malt scotch out a paper cup and try to cut food with a plastic knife. Let him wash the sippy cup or wipe off the table without dishwashing soap. Better yet, Mrs. Lewis needs to experience this. The problem with executives is that they get paid to come up with this stuff but they never have to experience it.
Hi all - we're at the AKV at the moment, we had heard about the removal of cups and glasses the day before we checked in. We called housekeeping and said - "we seem to missing four cups and four glasses in our room, could you please bring us some?" - so we waited and waited and after two reminder calls they did bring them, no questions asked.
Officially though, after speaking to the housekeeping manager, she said they have been removed from studios and lots of people are complaining!
Next time we stay in a studio (in June), if they don't provide me with cups and glasses, I'm asking for 60 disposable cups instead (5 cups a day each times 6 days)!!! I wonder what they'll make of that!
If everyone did the same, I'm sure they'll review this absurd policy!!!
And I'm sorry, but I should not have to carry heavy glasses and cups around the world with me or pay owners locker to store them. This isn't a motel 6 we're staying in, it's a Deluxe Villa Accommodation!
I've written a nice long letter to Member Services to register my complaint.

I finally sent my e-mail. Hopefully they will reconsider. At the very minimum they should at least supply them to those that request it.
Does anyone have a fax number? I just keep thinking that it would be hard to ignore the fax spitting out paper complaint all day. Somehow I think the big pile of papers would have more of an impact that e-mails.

Does this seem like too expensive an idea? How about if DVC offered BOTH styrofoam "mugs" and real ones (same with glasses, both real and plastic), and also returned dish soap to the studios. That way, people who are concerned about the germs from hand-washing (no dishwashers) would have the option, and people who prefer ceramic mugs have the option too. At least it would seem that it would be less expensive than putting little dishwashers in all the studios just to satisfy those people who don't think that hand-washing would get a mug clean enough. Just a thought-what does anyone think?

Great point! I have heard that Disney pays more attention to the hard copy letters than they do to email.

I will be mailing and faxing a letter today in follow-up of my email last Sunday. I will also be cc'ing Jim Lewis and my guide.
If I request some from the maid will she give it to me? I hate to pack that stuff and have it leak.
