Is the presentation for DVC buyers high pressure? I have heard about other time shares and how high pressure they are is DVC the same? Also I know time share presenttaions in Orlando offer free tix to Disney or other goodies if you sit thru their presentation, Does Disney offer any freebies for seeing their presentations?

No absolutely not. It's very informative and low key. Lots of value statements and marketing glitz but you are left to draw you're own conclusions.

The tour is geared to your pace and energy and questions. You can leave at anytime you desire or stay longer and ask questions. It's not the 'sit under the bright white lights and sign here before you leave'...that you might be thinking of as some timeshares are known to do.

The only freebies I'm aware of are coffee, cookies and tea. They used to give ice cream...not sure if that's still there or not.

Sometimes a fastpass.
No pressure - they give you the info and let you make up your mind. Any incentives offered typically expire after 3 days though.

We were just down last month. We stayed at VWL. We were not members (we were checking out the resort to see if we wanted to buy into it). So, we paid full price for a 2 br. That may be why, but in our room, there was an invitation to go to a DVC sales pitch- and a $100 Disney GC if we went. We went and it was well done, nicely presented, 2-hours and very informative. They even had facilities for the my 5 year old, but not for the 1 year old.

The guide said that resales for VWL were $95. I just put an offer in on a resale for $85/point... we'll see if it makes it past ROFR.

Good Luck!
:cheer2:

I've been to one DVC and one Vistana.

The Vistana was a NIGHTMARE :scared1: . The DVC was just fine, but that was quite a few years ago. The only pressure I felt was possibly self-imposed because the guide had spent so much time with us. I felt guilty telling my wife (out of his earshot), "There's gotta be people selling their points for cheaper than this. Let's go home and check online."

I did this in mid August. They do still offer Ice Cream (you exit through the ice cream parlor, and you can enjoy the ice cream while you're waiting on your ride back to wherever you want to go on the property).

They have a day care type area with computer games for the older kids. (My 14 year old wanted to stay there). You come into an area with light refreshments. It was pastries, coffee, and juice in the morning. The guide will spend as much time as you want explaining the program. I had done a lot of research so I just had him run the numbers for me, and show me a couple of different point combinations. After that, they take you on a tour of the rooms, and give you a package of information. The explain how long the incentive is good for, and are more than happy to have you call with your decision. I got 3 fast passes, good for up to 4 people each. They lasted 3 days. No financial incentive for the tour, but I didn't expect one.

It was very low pressure. They sell plenty of units without pressure, and have obviously figured out that people like to make the decision on their own.

I have been to a Fairfield presentation and the DVC one... Fairfield was horrible, cheesy used car type salesman and shady tactics...

DVC was a breeze. Our guide was great, no pressure and just taking it at our pace. We got free Ice Cream at the end of our tour and a free ride in a DVC shuttle out to AK. He also gave us 8 fastpasses with 4 on each pass... thank goodness because I got to do EE like 3 times :rotfl: He gave us until the end of our vacation to call him to lock in the "incentives", so I called him on the way home and left a voicemail, all paperwork was done via FedEx. The thing that really struck me was after offering all the information and charts and stuff, our guide left the room for almost 15 minutes letting me and DW talk it out... I felt very comfortable and did not feel pressured at all to make a decision :thumbsup2

Be Prepared!

They are going to start the Hard Sell! They have to sell out SSR before they can sell VAKL!

We did the open houe at SSR last week and there was no pressure. Guide was great and left us to wander around the rooms as we wished. Similar to everyone one else he actually suggested that we leave and think things over and give him a call with our decision. We got a fastpass each with 3 FPs on it.

Unsurprisingly we said yes :) The Fed Ex package arrived this morning, something to look at tonight!!

We had exactly the same experience. No pressure, geared to our timetable (one hour) and we got 3 fastpasses and ice cream. The resort is lovely and we were very impressed.

We did the presentation in 1997 and it was not hard sell at all. I don't know if it has changed. As a matter of fact, our guide said to us "Disney wants people to be happy. If you truly don't think this is the right purchase for you, let me know and we won't bother you". He also told us to go home and think about it and so forth. No hard sell at all. I daresay if I went ot a DVC presentation and someone started those smarmy, hard sell tactics, I'd probably report them because I don't think that is the way DVC wants to portray their product.

As far as getting "harder sell" since they have announced VAKL...there are people, such as myself, for whom VAKL is not appealing at all.

I have sufficent points at the moment, but if I needed points right now and wanted to buy from Disney, I'd do SSR before VAKL. That whole African thing doesn't appeal to me at all. I've stayed that the AKL...lovely hotel, great people, neat to see the animals, but something about it just doesn't "do it" for me.

But that's the beauty of DVC...there's something for everyone!!!!!!!

I bought in 1997, and my experience was the same, very low key. Actually, after the tour, our guide asked if we wanted to hear the $$ about DVC, or if we preferred to be done!! Believe me, most other timeshares aren't like that AT ALL!! I did one where they wouldn't give me my children! :scared1: The only one that was almost as good as DVC was the Marriott.

We actually did have a high pressure salesman the first time we toured the DVC in 2005. We were pushed into signing while on site, the push was that this offer wont remain if you leave here without signing. BTW he was a vetran DVC rep who is still on the DVC video.
We didn't know any better and signed while there.

Once we got home, the rush sunk in on us and it bothered us enough to back out of the deal. We thought if Disney is this pushy now with a timeshare, what is membership going to be like. Also we were concerned about not having availablity, dues, etc. None of our concerns or questions were answered very well during our rushed presentation and the rep was not good about returning calls.

We still loved Disney and went back down again the following year. In passing we mentioned to a representative at a kiosk how we had been turned off from the previous year's interaction. She was great, she listened and spoke with a manager at the DVC who was able to transfer us to another sales representative. That change took some doing but they finally agreed to do it. Funny part is, our new rep told us that the old sales representative we had no longer worked for DVC.

Either way, we felt far more relaxed and chose to join, but this time it was after we had returned home and had time to really think about it and make sure it was what we wanted to do.

I guess it really comes down to who you have for your personal contact / interaction, just like most other sales oriented relationships. You need to be comfortable with what is going on and the decisions you make.

When you really don't like who you are dealing with, speak with a manager and get another salesman. DVC wants the sale more than they care about bruising the ego of a salesman.

As most have said it was not at all high pressure. Infact our guide was so kind. She gave us time to talk alone several times. It sells itself and they know that. We got several fastpasses for going through the presentation. :sunny:

HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD TY I MEAN ANIMALS ARE COOL AND ALL I JUST DONT GET IT

We did the tour in February. We thought it was very good - no pressure at all, although I made it quite clear we wanted the Boardwalk and would probably buy a resale as we didn't want SSR, and at no point was it mentioned that they could see us the Boardwalk directly. We were offered some incentives that were good for 3 days but we knew we weren't going to be making a decision within 3 days so we just basically ignored them and looked at the bigger picture.
We were offered free childcare for the duration of the tour and ice-creams afterwards. My youngest was only 2 and still in diapers but they still took her in the childcare, just gave us a pager in case we needed to go back and change her.

We just bought and our presentation was last month - no pressure, low-key and we did get free fastpasses! We actually made the decision after we got home and completed everything over the phone and through Fed-Ex.

We toured SSR on 10/27. It was a last minute decision due to some afternoon free time. They got us a van very quickly and got us over there. DW and I agree that there seemed to be some pressure during the presentation, but that was likely due to us having ADR's at CG to make. The guide kept it short, like we asked. An offer of ice cream was made, but no FP mentioned.

We toured in August and our Guide definitely followed the "you get more bees with honey than vinegar" approach :goodvibes Pooh Bear would definitely approve.

As most people have said. It was very very low pressure, they took the children in the games room, which they loved. We were treated to drinks and a very pleasant chat then tour with our Guide. We found him to be honest, straightforward and definitely informative, I did not find any of the information he gave us contradicted when we checked on DIS. He ended our meeting by giving us FPs, taking us to the ice cream parlour and telling us to go home, think about it and call him with an answer. It was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours after a busy morning at AK.
