DVC Point Charts for 2011 - Post chart release discussion begins on Pg 14

Am I the only person who looks at these charts and shrugs?

For me, I can't get upset with what they set, but rather I look forward to scouring the charts and finding out the new best deals and how to take advantage and make the most out of my points.

I'm excited!

Here's a first. The points charts for Beach Club Villas and Boardwalk Villas preferred view have always been identical. No longer the case for 2011. Beach Club Villas 2011 point chart is differant.

Also Beach Club Villas took a major re-allocation for 2011 for 1 and 2 bedrooms during adventure and choice season. Went up a lot during Adventure and Choice, went down a lot during Dream and Magic.

They were also different in 2010.

The line for the Standard View Grand Villa at AKV starts behind me!!:rotfl:

And the OKW Grand Villa is just sick!! :woohoo:

And I do agree, this is just more fair to distribute the costs more evenly among all members.

At the Condo Meeting in December, JL said the biggest complaint of members was availability.

In 2011 members will base their stays more on when and where and less on the days of the week to avoid which should spread everyone out a little more and free up the logjam that was Sun-Thur.

Last year I went 7 times on points and they all included at least a Saturday night if not 3 weekend nights.

I like 2011 Charts much more than 2010 because at least it's fair.

...and for a second time, I am reduced a day because a bank & borrow once every 3 add-on is priced out of a 6th night!

How are you supposed to calculate how big of an add-on you actualy need with all of this looming on the horzon every year now?

6 points short!

Even so, unless you think DVC is incompetent, it's unlikely that weekends are going to be super-hard to get. DVC has the actual figures for weekday/weekend demand *and* they know how that demand changed in response to the last reallocation.[/QUOTE]

With such a small difference in points for weekend vs weekday, I find it very hard to believe that demand for weekends will not be significantly higher than weekdays. Not only do you have the people who are close enough to go down for a weekend, but people who are flying in are likely to include extra weekend days into their trips. This is especially true considering increasing airfares and fees.

I think i'm with you here on this. I guess i look at the reallocation just like any retail store would change thier pricing on products. Sometimes there are discounts, sometimes there are price increases. Obviously, we're talking about "expensive products" here.

Also, people don't like change. Many fall into a pattern of "we always go to Disney at this particular week of this month each year" ....and when the price changes, emotions come out. Some don't have the ease of changing when they can go to "take the best deal out there".

My wife and i go for 2 week periods for the most part...given what i've read so far, we may get hit hard, guess i'll start having to crunch the numbers myself. Regardless, i hope everyone will find some way to be able to take their vacations and have a great time when there!:thumbsup2

The summer of 2010 we are doing one 2BR and two studios for about 10 nights. I just calculated using the 2011 charts and it was the same number of points (STD view, BWV).

But when prices go up you pay more. We have a fixed numbers of points, so for us we get less (some will have to cut their stay short by a day). Perhaps the market for point transfers will take a jump.

If the speculation here is correct that it's the Jambo House GV near the pool, it is HA. It has a roll-in shower in the master bath but I think it does also have a whirlpool tub. I remember a trip report from someone who stayed there who was disappointed due to the roll-in shower, I think due to the usual problem where the water from the shower ended up all over the bathroom floor.

ETA: Just looked at the floor plan for that GV. It shows a whirlpool tub in addition to the roll-in shower.

I've been thinking about this. One of the "selling points" the guides use is that by locking in at DVC, we "lock-in" our price for years to come, while inflation increases the rack rates going CRO.
If they continue to change the point structure, they can in fact create a price increase with our point usage. Even though they need to maintain the same overall point count in each resort, increasing week days to higher point counts increase the "value" of our stay. Am i understanding this correctly?... or am i making mountains out of molehills?

Ok...another question....
Seeing how the points "value" tend to change with allocations, would there be a change in the average rental value per point? I know the average is around $10.00... didn't know if that would increase too. I don't rent, but wanted to know just how far point allocation affects point structure.

Well, the point change between weekday and weekends at BLT makes it a bit easier for us.

This year, it was cheaper to fly Friday to Thursday, instead of Saturday to Friday. I saved in airfare, but ended up having to book both Fri & Sat nights as part of the trip.

Now, with weekends in Magic Season (the only time we go because I teach) being only 7 points more than weeknights (1 bedroom SV), I can be flexible and the difference between an all weekday trip and a trip that includes two weekend nights, at most, is 14 points. In 2010, that difference was 24 points.

I can see a few areas that could command a little higher rental price based on these new charts: BLT standard views, BWV standard views, AKV standard/ value views.

There is a ~50% change in the points required when they moved the april dates (11th-30th in 2010) from the choice season to the magic season (april 1st-14th). Part of the april dates remain unchanged in the premier season.

Are they allowed to move partial months from one season to another?

The "going rate" was $10 for many years despite an average annual increase in dues of around 3% per year. Prices did start to go up a bit to $11-$12 a couple of years ago but due to the economy a lot more members seem to be renting out their points and those looking to rent are shopping for the best possible deal so that has pushed the price back down. I don't see the reallocation affecting rental rates.

Yes, they can change the seasons. They can add, subtracts seasons....they could even get rid of all seasons and make all points even throughout the board...as long as the total point count remains the same in the resort.

I think you got your seasons mixed up...

In 2010, Aprill 1-10 (along with March 28-31) are Premier, and 11-30 are Magic.

In 2011, they flipped somewhat, with April 1-16 as Magic and April 17-30 as Premier.

The change is due to Easter. The week before and the week of Easter are Premier. The number of days in Premier didn't actually change.

Thank you Lisa for checking. You would think that would be a booking category for Special Needs and not up for grabs at 11 months. At least that unit has the whirlpool tub.

My biggest gripe regarding AKV Concierge is the 1 bedroom with the roll in shower and NO tub being the same points or more than the other 1 bed units. Now that CL points have increased for 2011, I will never ever book a 1 bed CL villa only CL studios. Im not paying double points for a net gain of a kitchen I dont need because Im in CL, laundry, and a king bed.
