DVC perks when not staying through DVC???

We will be staying @ The Poly 10/9-10/16, trip was booked in March. We joined DVC in July. Even though we're not staying on our DVC points, can we still get the DVC discounts @ restaurants & World of Disney, etc.? We have our temporary member cards but I don't know if we have to actually be staying as DVC guests in order to qualify for discounts. Make sense??

I'm not sure if you need to be staying on points or not, but just show your member card. Also, there is no member discount at World of Disney, only at Disney Stores not located at WDW. To get the discount at World of Disney, you need to have an AP.

Our family is doing a non DVC trip as well in the near future. I plan on flashing my member card every chance I get.

The DVC site says the following:

"Enjoy offers and discounts especially for Disney Vacation Club Members. Although these offers aren't part of your ownership interest purchase in a Disney Vacation Club Resort, they add to the magic of your membership experience.

To take advantage of these great discounts, you must present either your Disney Vacation Club Member card or your Walt Disney World® Resort ID card (with your "DVC Member" designation on it) at the location."

It doesn't say anything about having to be staying on points. It says that perks are for members, so I say use your membership.

I think the only perk tied to staying at a DVC resort on points is pool hopping. For dining discounts and valet parking, I think you just need a membership card.

Yes, you can have your perks. The day we joined, we used our temp. cards for dining discounts. The perk we don't get is the UPH discount when at a non DVC resort

Don't forget the Valet Parking at the DVC resorts is complimentary. You still have to tip the valets but there is no $6 parking fee.

LOL! We ate at a restaurant the day we bought and used the temp card. They looked at it and didn't know what it was. They had to call DVC to clarify. that was in 2002.

Thanks everyone. I had a Disney Club membership, before they stopped it, I could get a discount @ World of Disney - I guess I just assumed (I shouldn't do that should I )

The only discounts I can think of that you DON'T get are the UMP and PH. All the rest you get even if not staying on WDW property at all. As mentioned, no merchandise discount at WoD or the parks.
