DVC owners without children...yet.

Just found this thread and thought I'd put my 2 cents.

DH & I became members in May '06 (on our first trip to WDW). WDW totally impressed DH and we bought 240 points at SSR. We have no kids (and probably won't have any due to medical reasons). We figured it would be a good investment for our retirement (though that is about 20 years away).

Our friends with kids looked at us a little funny but most thought it was a great idea. The ones with kids wished they could afford it!

And I agree with whoever said - you don't need kids to enjoy Disney.

We are in the process of planning our December '06 trip and we'll have another trip in May '07 - we can't wait!

Just my DH and I without kids and no plans for any. Best purchase we ever made. Just wish we would have done it sooner.

Thanks to a generous gift from my parents, we had the opportunity to buy our own membership in 2000 (my parents have been members since 1993 - DW and I took the first vacation with my parents' points in 1994 for our honeymoon).

We went on our first vacation with our points in October 2001, when my wife was pregnant. Our first daughter was born in 2002.

Since then, we have been back twice, with banking and borrowing. We certainly did not go as much when the girls were infants, but we've easily been able to manage point use so that we don't leave points on the table. I think for the next few years it will probably be an every-other-year thing still, but then we'll probably be back to about evey 18 months or less.

One of the great things about DVC is that it lets us feel like we can go when the girls are young since we don't need to see it all. We can go at their pace and feel confident that we'll be back to see the things that we didn't get to another time.

Here's what we have done with children so far:

January 2003 - 1 DD age 11 months
April 2005 - Both DD ages 3 yrs 2 months and 6 months
Upcoming Feb 2006 - Both DD ages 5 yrs and 2 yrs 3 months

We've hit just about every age and develpmental stage from infant through toddlerhood and we think travel with the little ones is fun and exciting (both for them and for us).

We were pre children DVC, and enjoyed it for six years before we enjoy it now with a 3 and a 1.5 year old. We never stopped DVC when we had babies. We did have to change some habits. I had to cancel our trip to HHI this past Sept. due to Pre-school. (Did not want them to miss the first week.) The years they were born we just had to make sure the dates of trips were well past due dates. We also went to HHI and not WDW while they were tiny new born babies. They slept most of the way down. Now that they are toddlers we will enjoy 2 beach trips to HHI a year and WDW every other year. (We don't want to spoil them)
