DVC owners without children...yet.

I think the best part about DVC without having kids is that we only need a studio. Which mean more nights on you points. WooHoo :cool1:

We bought 150 points when our 2 DDs were 2 1/2 and 2 weeks old. We banked our first years points that year(new baby) and had double for the following year. That is the great thing about DVC. Bank the points when you can't go. You could, if you wanted, bank points while pregnant or if the children are infants.

We ended up going to WDW the following April when DDs where 3 and almost 1. We had a great time.

Before DVC we did take a trip to WDW when our oldest was 16 months.(off property) We had a great time then too. We knew then we wanted to take our child/ren every year and we knew we wanted to stay on property. I vowed to buy DVC before our next trip. As it worked out we were luck enough to be able to do it.

I would buy before children for the following reasons.

1. You know you and DH already love going to WDW.
2. You can afford it now (before children)
3. Your child/ren will enjoy it too someday.
4. Think of it as an investment into your family. Vacations are important family bonding time and they make wonderful memories at any age.
5. Money gets tight once you have children. It would be nice to know that you have secured a family vacation every year.
6. Once you have children, instead making payments for DVC, you will be making payments on a 529 (college fund):rotfl2:

I could go on, but I think yo uget what I am trying to say :teeth:

Hello, This may be a little off topic, but I wanted to hear from some DVC owners that don't have children yet....DH and I want to purchase but we're a little nervous about what we'll do with points during the first couple years when our (hopefully someday) children are born/young. Have you banked, rented? Thanks!
Did people think you were nuts for buying before children?
We bought with the idea that DVC was the easiest way to vacation at WDW with a baby or small children. We bought in 5 yrs before dd1 was born. Because we always stayed in a 1 br, our first stay with her at 6 mths old was a dream. She had a quiet place to sleep, we could enjoy the evenings in relative peace, it was wonderful. Same thing now with dd2 who's just turning 1. Needless to say being able to have a kitchen and do laundry are a must for us with small kids.

You could rent out points if it was too much to vacation with little kids or babies, but the spaciousness was a huge selling point for us, in envisioning our future with kids.

We bought long before our baby arrived but found that had little impact on our travel to WDW. Having a Kitchen and quiet spaces, plus all the baby friendly services and attractions makes WDW a great place to vacation with a baby. We took ours when she was 2 months old for a winter getaway.

The bigger transition to make is when they start school. Now, our points usage patterns are all messed up as we try to figure out when to go. Our trip in July was very costly in points compared to our prior low season patterns. We may now need to buy more points!

We did exactly what you describe in your scenario. My wife & I bought into DVC a few years ago knowing we would have kids. We took a couple vacations on our own (we absolutely love Disney), and golfed, did the parks etc....

Now we are going in October for the first time with our daughter. She is two and a half. We see this as a bonus, and here is why :

1. Perfect place for a family vacation
2. My wife & I both plan on getting away with friends. A guys weekend for golfing, and my wife and her sister went down and ran the half marathon last year.
3. When we do go with our child, we have spent enough time in the parks ourselves. So it will be all about our daughter. If she gets tired or cranky, we dont need to drag her around Disney making all of us miserable. We know we will be going back frequently. So - there will be no rushing or hurrying to try to get things/rides in for one trip.
4. We can also use our points to give our family (parents/other members) vacations if we cannot use them
5. Orlando continues to grow - there are other attractions we can go to outside of Disney
6. Vero Beach & Hilton Head are both wonderful, non-Disney locations (along with the many other choices)
7. We own 150 points. So - if we want to get a 2 bedroom we may bank points and go every other year. It seems like if you know the system, there are plenty of ways to easily make it work.

We love DVC & dont regret it one bit!!!!

We are a transitional family. One child has moved out, two more left at home. We enjoy our trips with the kids, but to our surprise, we really enjoy Disney trips with just "US"!

If you love Disney, as most do here, you will have no problem finding the time or use of your points. Our friends (who don't own DVC) think of Disney as "just going to the parks". Disney is so much more then that, its a vacation retreat! There are so many things to see and do and many don't even include going to the parks.

We purchased DVC before we had kids. Heck, come to think of it, we still don't have kids!
We are trying to have kids now (Not me, but my wife is. Well, you know what I mean.) :teeth:

DH and I bought in December. We used a few of our 2005 points for a one night stay at the Disneyland Hotel when DH was in California for business. We rented the rest of the 2005 points.

We are using our 2006 points for a stay at the Grand Californian Hotel next month when some of our family will be going to Disneyland. We are using the rest of our 2006 points in January for a stay pre & post Disney cruise.

I don't think we'll have a problem using the points. I figure we will bank some years and then maybe use them for a cruise or for a stay with extended family. We are glad that we bought now so that it is paid for and when we do have kids we just have to pay the dues.

I love Disney, so I bought into DVC. I don't need any children. I'm enough of a child when I'm there.

You so DON'T have to have children to be a DVC Member and LOVE it  My DH and I are empty nesters----our children are grown, we're still in our mid-40's and absolutely love WDW! You cannot imagine how great it is to share a place like that with just your spouse/significant other! It is awesome!

I have a young niece and nephew and someday grandkids---maybe, that I imagine taking to WDW---then I think about the one trip that the DH and I took ALONE and I'm like----uhm....maybe not! :sunny:

I bought this past spring by myself. No husband (yet) and no kids.
A big part of buying though, was the thought that it would be a wonderful gift to bring my family and friends there, and eventually my own kids.

I bought 2 1/2 years before our DD was born. And then I bought another 200 points ;).

Don't kid us, MG, you're trying too! ;)

I bought without children. Without a spouse, either, come to think of it! I'm not having any shortage of reasons to spend my points. I'm going with DVC-owner friends in December, with my cousin and her daughter in May, and might squeeze in a solo trip next fall.

As others have said, there are lots of ways to work around pregnancy and babies when it comes to WDW vacations. I just wanted to add that I noticed a weird new mindset when I took my first DVC trip. I was able to relax and slow down a lot more because I knew I was coming back soon. I didn't feel like I had to rush around or make big touring plans because I have decades to see everything. It was the first time I was content to just chill out by the pool or enjoy sitting in my hotel room because I wasn't thinking stuff like "I haven't seen the Tiki Birds yet this trip! I have to see the Tiki Birds!" I knew if I didn't see the Tiki Birds now, I'd see them later. That attitude can be invaluable when you have little ones.

Totally new to DVC and this forum, but saw your post.

My husband and just bought into DVC less than a week ago. We have no children at home. We were on vacation at Disneyland, California and looked into DVC and decided it was perfect for us. We have two DGC and have been planning to take then to DW next year and this just seemed perfect for us. We can bring them or not bring them as we love to do Disney vacations by ourselves as well.

This gives us the flexibility to do the parks or just hang out at the resort, travel to surrounding areas or bring the grandkids if we want to. It is also there for the family when we are no longer able to travel.

We haven't even used it yet and we know it will be perfect for us.

I'm single with no children and I love to share my points and invite friends and family on vacation. I just visited Vero Beach last week and am considering a resale there. My sister has young children - the six year old has been to Disney 5 times and the two year old just made her third trip.

We purchased a year before we were married and have been married for 6 years now with no children. We haven't had a problem using our points. We've done exchanges, have stayed in Disneyland on points, taken a cruise and have treated friends and family. I've also rented and banked points. I've done one add-on and haven't regretted my purchase. We love WDW but also Orlando so we do alot, plus our friends live there.

You'll be amazed on how exciting it is to look forward to going back :cheer2:

My DH and I bought 2.5 years ago. I was 27 and he was 26 and had no kids... we still don't for that matter. No one said a thing to us since I go to WDW very regularly as it is. We did buy 210 points though, and I could see us maybe needing a few more as time goes on :rolleyes1

But for now, we're happy with it. I don't think kids are required at all to purchase. Just the love of Disney

DH and I purchased this year. We don't have kids and are not sure if we will ever have them. However, we have both already been talking about adding some more points later and we haven't even made our first trip on points yet! :rotfl:

I agree with what has been said before, you don't need kids, you just need to love Disney :goodvibes

We purchaed DVC after a trip in January with my then-9-month-old son. It was great having him with us - he had a great time and it was fun to have him there with us. He'll be back this coming January, when he'll be just over 21 months old. I believe he'll have a great time then, too. :) It helps, too, having a couple other adults, especially for switching off for thrill rides.

The other thing that's great about bringing a young child is that, by and large, it doesn't cost a penny. The flight was free (him on our lap), no extra hotel charges, he mostly ate off our plates plus his normal food... the same should be true this trip.

My wife may be pregnant again next trip, so we will probably skip a trip for a year or so, but that's OK - I already borrowed most of next year's points for this trip so it could use a recharge! I'll probably bank any unused points and that'll give me an excuse for a trip later.
