okay which would you prefer - if given a choice.

I would be happy with the Cont - but I would Love the Polyn

I agree with that statement, if Cont only choice, I would happily stay there, but in dream world, I would prefer Poly.

Voted for Poly, but I don't believe there is sufficient land anywhere other than at the Contemporary unless they were to put it on the Epcot monorail line.

Can you even imagine the $$$ per point any of them would be???

I vote for "None of the Above" !! :flower:

IMHO... If I roleplay as being Disney...why would I make "prime real estate available" to have a DVC @ a resort where I can, on an ongoing basis, charge outrageous rack rate prices...""and the people will still come"" !!

You might now, unless;
you're convinced that you can extract a very rich price for a premo property - as would likely been seen by a monorail/MK area resort, possibly with walking access to the MK. Remember, the timeshare market has become RED HOT over the recent past. I see it as entirely possilbe Disney would find it worth while to finance a major refrib at the CR by selling DVC into that locale at pricing near $ 150 per point (maybe $125, but proably higher when you consider that if only the wings are converted, and compare the location to SSR with pricing at $ 95 )

Don't know, it will be interesting to watch this unfold, if it does. :)

Oooh, what about the island in the middle of Bay Lake?

That would depend, for me, on the long term memory capacity of alligators; the island is overrun with them some say. I'd wonder if they'd hold a grudge? :confused3

Someone pointed out that it might be quicker to walk to MK than to the monorail platform from the rumored-to-be-proposed wing. Then the issue becomes not so much monorail, but MK.

A year ago I was all about the CR rumor, but now I'm not so sure I'd want to pay what I'm sure they'll charge.

Yes, I'd love a DVC at the Poly. The other side of the coin, however, is this: over the years the Poly has gradually gotten bigger and more developed and more crowded and noisier. The charm of the lobby area is mostly gone now because it's always mobbed. The pathways are rowdy. The restaurants are jammed. I'd hate to do anything that would make this worse.

I voted don't care, just wanted to see the results because:

A. It cracked me up

B. Anywhere but the COntemporary was not an option. That's the only Disney resort I have no desire to stay at. (Even less desirable than SSR if you can believe that! :scared1: ;) )

Since we're just voting for fun, I have to go with the Poly. It was always my favorite pre-DVC resort, and we still enjoy an occasional stay.

I don't care for the Contemporary and I think the Grand Floridian is nicer than the Poly, so, it had my vote.

I also think that if there's going to be a DVC at any of these, it will be at the Contemporary, and yes, if my DGC ever came, I'd go there in a minute, no matter the per night, and no matter the cost per point, we're dreaming here, right? Dreaming of walking to MK with my dear family, :cloud9:

I love the Hawaiian theme of the Poly. My backyard is Hawaiian themed, influenced by my mom's love for all things Hawaii and the my love for the Poly. After two trips there, the Poly was my biggest obstacle to joining DVC.
I'm glad I joined, but that would be the best of both worlds to me! Don't see any of these happening, but I wouldn't mind being wrong!

The Poly and GF stand on their own with a high % of occupancy. It's the older rooms in the Cont. that are less desirable...therefore it is probably the only possibility for a deal with DVC. I personally would prefer a brand new resort with different theming than what a fellow poster described as a "parking garage".

I like the property the Contemporary is on. MK access. Potential access to and views of both SSL and Bay Lake. It's a great spot. The DVC resort could be next to the parking garage. It could have it's own theme.

How about a northeastern seaside resort circa 1900? :teeth:

Well, look what people are paying now to stay at GF or Poly in those tiny little rooms. ;) Just imagine what someone would pay for a 1Br, 2BR or my gosh a GRAND VILLA ON THE MONORAIL!! :earseek:

Anything that locks in returning customers for 40+ years doesn't sound like too bad of an idea to me. Of course, can you imagine the people buying points just to rent them out if that would happen? :rolleyes1

I'll take a villa at the Grand Floridian, Lovey. princess:

I'd love the VPR, too - I bet they could fit in a few more longhouses somewhere. When we were there in Fall 2003, we found it quite quiet - even the lobby wasn't that busy, except at dinnertime.

calypso makes a good point, though: if they had to reduce the number of hotel rooms at PR or GF, that would be cannibalizing a good thing, as those two resorts have high return rates. CR, OTOH, needs something to perk it up (I'm still voting for the same "retro-future" face-lift they gave [Dr]Tomorrowland.)

I wonder. Regardless of where it is put, as long as a new DVC Resort is attached to an existing facility (a la BCV, BWV & VWL), what is the minimum number of room that would need to be built to justify / make a profit / keep MF at a minimum? Playing "Let's Pretend", assume they chose the Polynesian. If they built one DVC longhouse, with 40 villas per floor, 3 floors (to blend in), would that be enough to "make it worth Disney's while"?

Be well!

I would be thrilled to see a Poly DVC. Surprised, but thrilled :)

One of those rumors I always see floating around here is that the grounds that the Poly is on cannot withstand more building. So, I think changes there won't be happening - but we can certainly dream!!!
