:goodvibes Can anyone tell me about the member benefits? THANKS!!!!
I know you get 10% off at the disney store, and discounts on Pleasure Island and the Water Parks- How much? Anything else that will make me do this:dancer: ?

There are some small restaurant discounts, and currently, a $100 discount on AP's. In my mind, the AP discount is the only really significant one.

Don't make a decision to buy based on the member perks. Perks come and go, the list is constantly changing. None of them are guaranteed in the contract.

The other big benefit, to me, is the ability to get the Disney Dining Plan on any DVC resort stay on points. And you don't have to buy park tickets to get the DDP.

There are some other smaller perks like pool hopping and free valet parking, but the AP discount and DDP are the two most important to us.

As Lynne said, don't attach any value to DVC benefits when making a decision whether or not to purchase DVC, because they can and do change.

I agree the AP discount and the DDP are great perks.

Please tell me more about the DDP perks. I haven't received my info packet yet since I am a new member.

Thanks!:goodvibes
Currently, you can purchase the DDP with any DVC points stay. You don't have to purchase park tickets, but otherwise all of the requirements are the same. That perk will presumably be available for 2007, but Disney has the option to withdraw it at any time. It's been a big success, and I doubt they'd take it away any time soon, but they could.

The DIS has a Disney Dining Plan board which has a ton of discussions on all aspects of the DDP.

We get 10% off at the Disney Store?! :cool1: Really?? I thought that was just an online discount, but can we get it IN the stores as well?? Oh, I hope that's true!!! :cloud9:

Sorry, no discount at the disney store. Disney doesn't own them anymore, The Children's Place does. I think we had a discount there before the buyout, but no more. Sorry to disappoint.:sad1:

CarolA...

Agreed. The Disney Store has really dropped in quality since being taken over by The Children's Place (which is very surprising). However, the merchandise in your regular 'mall outlet' Disney Store is what it is...

I will say that the 'World of Disney' store here in Manhattan is very much an experience like the store in Downtown Disney (albeit much smaller...)

Nope, having better MERCHANDISE would bring folks into the store. 10% off of that stuff??? Who care?

SO true. I used to shop at the old Disney Stores a lot, back when they had merchandise for both adults and children. They used to have a really nice selection of clothing for adults. I stop into the Disney Store in my mall now and then, just to see if anything's changed, but I haven't bought anything there in years.

I so agree, and I let my opinion be known! I used to go there to look at and sometimes purchase books, art cells, watches, etc, they don't carry any of that anymore. Now the only reason I go is to buy disney dollars...

Back to the original thread... I didn't know about the free valet parking, is it just at DVC resorts, or all Disney resorts?

Jennifer

Free valet parking is only for DVC members at DVC resorts... Elsewhere it's something like $10 per day??!!?? That number might be wrong but I'm not sure...

I also think Valet parking is free to disabled guests.

We like the AP perk as we usaually go once a year on average and schedule 2 trips inside the the AP window and get AP's every other year.

Another perk that we LOVE is the golf AP. DW and I are both golfers and usually take friends to WDW with us. For $50 per year we can play the golf courses for reduced prices and get a full 4 some in at those prices. There are a couple of restrictions to this. The first. the tee times must be after 10AM. The advanced booking depends on the time of year and the cost per per person also depends on the time of year. Our last trip, in December, we were able to book 90 days in advance and paid $50 per person for each round. We played Osprey Ridge, Eagle Pines and Palm on the trip.

Another current perk that is very nice is the Magical Express (not sure if this is offered to all Disney hotel and DVC guests or just DVC), but it is transportation from and to the airport. Contact MS when you have your flight information to set up Magical Express. They send bag tags that you put on your bags and when you get to Orlando, the bags go directly to your DVC resort. There is a bus that will take you directly to the resort. When you leave you check in for your flight at bell services and your baggage is sent directly to your flight and the bus takes you to the airport. At this time this service comes at no charge.

JimMIA,
I was told you have to buy tickets to get into the park you have a reservation for. So, I just wanted to clarify that if you plan to eat in the parks, then you must purchase a ticket to enter that park on the DDP. Isn't that correct?

Yes, you must have a ticket to get into the park to eat.

What he meant was that a ticket purchase is not connected with the dining plan. If you are staying at a regular disney resort, in order to add the dining plan, you must buy at least a one day MYW pass for that stay. With DVC,that is not a requirement, which means you can use an annual pass.

How much is the general tip for getting your car?
