I was thinking a bit during a slow period at work today.

What if the Gold Pass was offered to resale members in a one time event?

I think that would bring in a pretty big amount of cash to WDW. Heck there could be stipulations like use it or lose it, can't put towards platinum, etc. etc..

Why would Disney give any incentive to resale owners when they’ve pushed all along to get people to buy direct? It just won’t happen. Then throw on top that they’re not selling new APs right now unless you’re renewing or had one and cancelled during the closure and it’s even more of a no.

To get a major inflow of cash. Cash that could be used towards any number of things.

What Skeeter said, they are only going to do that for blue card - direct sale DVC members. They are pushing away from resale hard. Any incentives they can bring to the table to get MORE direct sales (ergo, using your idea for just Blue Card members) then that's even MORE likely.

AP sales are not under DVCM Any changes to add a resale buyer would be a new deal with that division.

They are not selling to anyone...other than as a recovery offer to those who canceled during closure and renewals.

DVCM has no ability to decide when they will sell again. From other areas of these boards, lots of local AP holders not happy with the limits on current passes, so I just don’t see them allowing new ones that can’t be used as intended.

I think its a creative and a good idea. Many travel companies are doing similar things. Specifically I'm thinking of hotel chains and airlines offering deals to buy discounted points or miles. That's to bring in extra cash during this period when their regular revenue is way down.

I think there are two reasons why Disney wouldn't do it though. First, it's a hard task to make people aware of a one time event, and it takes time for people to evaluate it and make the final decision to buy. This kind of promotion would need an end date or else the other people (blue card holders) start getting mad that one of their benefits is being offered to non blue card holders.

Second, Disney hates giving discounts. They're like Apple; they almost never give a discount on any product that is still selling at full price. And even though Disney could probably use an extra cash infusion, I don't think they actually need a cash infusion. They're well capitalized and they're well positioned for the future. They own tons of content, and I believe that today content is king, more than ever before. Also, I don't follow the stock market closely, but I think their stock is doing very well, and for the most part, that's the only thing that CEO's care about today.

All they need to do to get an influx of cash is to sell them again. Plenty of cash guests, locals, and blue card members waiting in line already.

No need to offer a new group of people a discounted pass.

Ah, I just saw that you're talking about resale owners. They are not offering APs to anyone right now. I'm a Blue Card member and I can't buy any AP, nevertheless a Gold AP. I'm sure when they finally put them on sale there will be an influx of people who are already eligible to buy Gold APs that they won't need to offer it to everyone.

I think that it was terrible that DVC made two levels of DVC owners and to treat resale owners are second class citizens. However, you bought into DVC knowing the restrictions. I don't think that DVC will be offering Gold APs to anyone who is not currently eligible for them now.

I have $2000 I have been DYING to give them for 3 APs!! And they would have made $ off us for food in Aug, Nov and Dec. Short trips but still.

PLUS we would have burnt up a bunch of points that we will now use later when tons more people are using their points.

I hear you. We were lucky enough to renew our passes when they started to allow renewals. We wanted a new pass, but with several trips planned had to go with the renewal.

DVC wants to do everything possible to discourage re-sale contract purchases, and I agree with them. I paid more for my direct contracts, and AP discounts is a perk for me and others who gave them money upfront.

To DVC as a whole, every DVC point in existence was initially created and sold as a direct point.

Now, if the DVC sales organization wants to negotiate and provide direct-only perks to direct buyers, it’s certainly their right.
(I’m a direct owner, but mostly think if DVC sales really wanted, they could be more aggressive buying and “reselling” points as direct. But they don’t because they think margin is more important than dollars.)

If DVC could find a way to have the resale market have no impact on direct sales, they would care less how strong or weak it is.

The perk of the AP is just that.,,to get you to buy...and if DVD could sell direct contracts with none of those, they would. It’s why they are not included as a right.

I love having the discounted AP and it was worth it for buying direct or having qualified points. However, the bigger things for me is the use of points at RIV...since I love the place.

Remember, there are two sides to a resale contract: the buyer and the seller. One of the reasons why DVC isn't a horrible timeshare purchase is the ability to sell your contract when you want or need to. If you need to sell in the future you will be glad that Disney doesn't actually "do everything possible" to discourage sales.

Just to share my experience today. I have a gold AP and it was in window for renewal. I was able to use the credit from a 3 day park hopper bought to use before pandemic that is as never used toward the renewal price when I went to guest relations. DVC gold renewal pricing still in effect!

Good to hear! Sadly, mine expired back in November 2019.

Sandi, what was the renewal price for your Gold AP, before the credit for your PH pass? We're getting ready to renew ours, and I want to be sure I buy enough GC with our Target Red Card to cover them!
