We are strongly considering purchasing additional DVC points through resale. We currently own two contracts (420 points) at SSR that we purchased directly from Disney in 2003.

A few related questions:

Has anyone partnered with DVC for Less to add points? It appears that they aggregate all open contracts for sale across several DVC resale websites. That sounds beneficial. Any good or poor experiences with this company?

Both of our current contracts are February use year. That may be hard to match through resale. How big a pain is it to have two different use years?

Since we already own 420 points from Disney, we have any benefits of directly purchasing. I imagine that means that we reap very little benefit from another direct purchase from Disney, correct?

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!

Some are okay with 2 UY. But it can be confusing.

The benefit of direct points is being able to use them anywhere. Resale points are restricted cannot be used at new resorts (VDH, RIV, Cabins) But that still may not be a big deal since you already have 420 unrestricted points.

Ahhh - I had not realized that catch. Interesting. However since we wish to buy at WL - Copper Creek resale is about our only option.

THANKS!

As mentioned, that site is really a place that you can see contracts for sale across many brokers without having to search through every site on its own.

Once you see something that you like, then you can go to the specific broker to put in your offer!

Makes me wonder how do they make $ to make it worth while to do this. I dont recall any ads.
I'm unsure. I do believe that some brokers have referral links. But I don't see referral tags in the DVDforLess links. So maybe the person is building the site as a personal project. Or maybe the person is working the bugs out and creating market share so they can approach brokers in a few months to arrange a referral element to keep their listings on the site. Unsure. But there's a lot of people who work on Disney projects as a hobby. That wouldn't surprise me. It also wouldn't surprise me if it was a student capstone project for a college.

You can buy CCV direct if you want, but since you have direct points already no need for the perks.

As others have said DVCForLess just helps you find contracts and compare contracts you still purchase through whichever broker has the right one you’re looking for.

When you buy via resale - are there any restriction on gifting the contracts to our three sons as we age out of avid Disney visits? I am guessing that at age 80 (no offense intended to anyone), we may not want to go often but I bet our kids will want to go with their families.

Nope it's the same as direct for something like that.

Interesting. I am sure that Mickey gets quite a premium over resale.
Yes for sure. The only time I think direct can make sense over resale is when they are running an incentive. (as i type this i realize I bought direct w/o an incentive but VGC is a whole different ball game than anything in FL)

It is a great site for seeing what is for sale and where. And the filtering allows you to quickly zero in on your resort, use year etc. I would be patient and wait for the right contract in your use year personally.

Thanks, great advice. We are actually not in a hurry at all. We do want 3 equal contracts so that when we gift them to our 3 sons, our efforts are equitable. Meanwhile, we can enjoy some additional family vacations together!

If you also want to pass along the blue card (DVC-Y) status of your 2003 direct points then you'll need to give each child a split of those and then split up the 2025 resale points. Today's resale points don't enable blue card, but grandfathered resale points would, not that the latter matters in your situation.

Super helpful information. So we have 2 contracts at Saratoga that were purchased from Disney (300 and 120 pts respectively). Will Disney split this up evenly (140 points each) for our 3 sons when we are ready to do so?

They can't split up individual contracts. I worded my earlier response poorly. So you'll have to transfer each contract as its whole. That's part of why some folks buy 300 pts direct total as 150 x2, for example.

"Sorry, least favorite child of ours, you get the resale contract." j/k (but not kidding)
