DVC Flag pins...

Color me skeptical I think possibly somebody swiped them from Disney. Gasp! Or perhaps a factory employee made more than they were supposed to and is auctioning the rest of them off. Since the return address is out of Florida I say they were taken from Disney.

That's what my DH said...probably someone swiped them. Considering DVC members only received 2 per household and, if I remember correctly, not all DVC members received them. Interesting!!

I am a DVC member whose pins I believed "fell" into this person's hands...

I emailed her, and she said she purchased them all at a flea market.

She has been selling them on eBay since last fall, and has literally sold hundreds and hundreds of them.

If she truly did come about them honestly at a flea market - it was one INCREDIBLE find!!

Was her nose growing when she spoke?

There was a series of posts a while back with several collectors participating that said that the DVC 9/11 pins had been recalled/pulled from distribution after some were sent out due to a violation of Disney policy in terms of the writing on the back (they apparently didn't get appropriate approval to have the 9/11 stuff on the back). Rumor had it that they sent them back (or didn't accept delivery on some of the shipment), and that they did indeed get dumped in such a way that they made into the flea market circuit.

My guide (at the time) did tell me that the mailing of the pins was discontinued due to "legal issues."

That was the first explanation I received. I probably spoke to 3 others over the course of last fall, and heard other explanations, as well - most of them just blaming the state of the postal system after 9/11, and saying they were "lost in the mail."

Not sure what you guys are driving at. The ad is for two pins and the DVC members who did recieve them each recieved two pins on a card. Did I miss something here?

nuthut,

The link is only showing "current items." Some of the auctions that were showing yesterday have since closed.

Here's a link to the same search showing "Completed Items."

http://search-completed.ebay.com/se...1=137&combine=y&st=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort

You'll see that this same individual has auctions selling these pins in several different quantities - 1 pin, 2 pins, 5 pins, 10 pins.

And she's been selling them for just about a year, now - it's like she has an "endless" supply...

Now I see what's happeniing. Seems to me that maybe they are stolen. I know my son who is a member also, never received his pins.

The seller's home town is listed as Ocoee, FL which is near Orlando. My guess is that if DVC refused shipment or had to 'dump' them because of company policy then it is only logical that they were snapped up locally (in the Orlando vicinity) because that is where they were at the time. According to earlier posts the seller states that they were bought at a flea market. I suppose that is possible. But the same seller is offering a DVC member pin (I can't quite tell if it is the newer one or the older one) that can still be bought at the resorts.
Someone posted that the prices have gone down. Was she asking more last year?
It also looks as if some of her earlier items were bought but others received no bids and were relisted. Such is the life of an ebay seller.
If we keep watching but not buying maybe the prices will continue to drop!

Originally she sold 10 pins for $100. I think that I recently saw her list them same 10 pins for $71 (with shipping). For a while I was keeping a count of how many DVC flag pins she had sold, but I gave up when it appeared that she had an unlimited supply.

My pins are definitely unusual! I live in Mercer County NJ and our mail is thru the Hamilton Facility (anthrax closure) I didn't get my mail for ages and when they started iiradiating (spelling?!) it and sending it in the bags I got my pins. They are tinged brown (burn) from the irradiation so my 9/11 DVC pins also bear the marks of the anthrax situation.

Most of the items I rec'd in the bags I tossed since it was mostly junk mail but the DVC thing I actually opened.

I'm sure other DVCers never opened theirs and tossed them

Well, I never received either pin so I'll keep watching her prices. If they go down, maybe I'll get one of each! Annmarie

That's interesting. I know these are known by collectors though--DH and I both wore ours on our baseball hats in WDW and a woman offered me $15 for mine.
I said no thanks.

I never received my pins, so it's quite possible these are among the many that were lost or diverted in transit.

That's so odd lrodk ,considering we live in the same town and I got mine.
If I come across an extra one it's yours.

Thanks for offering Dan. I'm not sure what happened, but I still think something went afoul. :)
