I'll be interested to see if Disney does anything regarding the rental market in the next few years.
I have not rented points yet, however we're probably doing it on our next trip.
Sadly IMO that is the way it is going. Before long we may only be able to be DVC direct.
If that is our destiny - so be it.
But here's the problem: we consumers need to grow a spine. The only people that can control DVC as a viable longterm product are the members - because Disney will "probe it" relentlessly until it's an afterthought as a consumer product. That's what's coming.
I was thinking the same thing...
Though renting DVC would completely defeat the purpose of DVC - as the thing they never wanted was to "take it or leave it"
Plus...they'd want some ridiculous fee per point.
Kinda like what they want to sell it now
I understand what non DVC members can do to show disney they aren't happy with the things they are doing, we can just stop going, but what can DVC members do? Disney already had a ton of their money.
They could shut down rental completely though couldn't they?
Just make it so only the people on the contract can use the rooms.
Well for a start... not buy more points?
Selling is an option too, if you're not using it, but that depends on whether you are still getting your money's worth or not.
Wouldn't that be a change of the contract terms? They might be able to do it for new contracts at new resorts - but I don't think they can change it on the resorts/contracts already signed? (I'm not a lawyer though!)

Yeah, I mean I guess my thoughts are if you sell your points, does Disney really care? Because they still have their money and now they have a new "member".
We've considered buying into DVC in the past.
DVC is pointless if they don't get the ancillary spending. It's 100% myth that they are "scoring" off the development end.
Which is why I don't understand why you would tick off the resale market (and some current owners). You can't buy that kind of advertising and some level of guaranteed spend.
I'd be curious to know how many people who have bought resale would have bought direct. I have to imagine it would be a low percentage.
Maybe they are also trying to limit the amount of turnover?
Yes, but the cruises were not a great value to begin with, right? This has significant value, most importantly discounted tickets.
Nothing in my contract that states renting not allowed. I'll take a look at it again.I'd need to read the whole contract to know, but if it contains the language "Do not purchase your Ownership Interest in reliance on your ability to transfer these products, services and Incidental Benefits" then arguably no.
Does it state anywhere that renting is allowed? Because renting is a type of transfer of services.

I'm really surprised they haven't yet.I'll be interested to see if Disney does anything regarding the rental market in the next few years.
