DVC cash reservation vs. rent/transfer points

I am probably going to be short a few points (10-15) from using my developer points. I will need to pay cash or get some extra points if I go with my current length of stay plans. Any ideas on which is a better option:

• DVC discounted cash reservation (assuming 25% discount)

• Rent/transfer points from another DVC member

I see alot of people say they use a cash reservation for Fridays/Saturdays even though they have the points. With the cash price of those nights, does that really pay off?

It all depends on the size of the unit and number of points. weekend points are usually very high. Figuring 10$ per point for a rental, do the math and see how you come out.

We pay members cash for weekend studios - around 200$. The same studio on points is usually around 30pts. Renting points @ 10pp, the same weekend studio would end up costing 300 a night if we stayed on rented points.

If you are short a few points to make up a night, you'll either have to transfer those points from another member (which can be difficult since you only have one transfer either in or out per year and most like to make it worth their while) or you can borrow from yourself from next year's points.

You can't get a room for a single night for a combination of points and cash. It's either cash or points.

As for using cash instead of using points, that's what I bought the points for. I don't want to lay out any more cash than I already have. We pay for those weekend nights with our points.
