Hey everybody...we're about to take the leap of faith here and purchase a DVC at SSR.We're not travelling down this year so we though we would "invest" our money into vacationing for the next 50 years instead!!My question to everyone is this...do you ever regret your DVC purchase???I know the resorts are spectacular but is there ever a time where you stood back and said what the heck was I thinking (like as your sending away your annual dues???) I am just curious....personally I love WDW and people just don't seem to get it.You all seem to "get" it and have thought well enough of the WDW experience to want to continue doing well into the future...so give me your thoughts!!!!:chat:

The regret you will hear mentioned the most is that "I wished that I had bought sooner". In my case I don't have that particular regret but my regret is that my first contract was on the large side and I wish that I had split it up into two smaller contracts. In case I ever want to sell (not likely), smaller contracts make it easier.

Even with the dues payment, we still come out ahead. If you don't consider the point cost and only consider the dues, we can stay in a GV for 10 days with only 2 days in dues. That is 8 days free. If you add in the cost of points then it is about 3 or 4 days in cost. I just consider it an investment that last for 40 years. It is sure a better deal than buying a car that last, if you are lucky, 10 years. Nothing has happended to us that has made us think of our DVC as anything but the greatest thing we even did!!! AND yes you will want more points even before the paper work is signed!

A little off topic, but DH & I had just talked about this. I saw an 800 point contract on The Timeshare Store site last week selling for about $54,000. I had wondered if a contract could be broken up to sell or if you had to sell all the points in one contract?

Back on topic - we only purchased about a year ago (OKW resale) & added on before we made our first trip home. No regrets here & I don't foresee any regrets in the future. We are on the wait lists to purchase more points if a small contract becomes available again. :D

None here!

We have not even had our first visit home and we already added on. We have been smiling from ear to ear just knowing we will be going to WDW soon....and will be every year for the next 50 yrs. How could I regret something like that? :hyper:

My contract certainly isn't that big but you can not break them up once you buy a contract. Only Disney can do that. It seems to me that a 150 point contract is the right size to buy.

Thanks for the response. Wow - I would think that an 800 point contract is going to be rather hard to sell :earseek: unless maybe they can get an extended family unit that decides to buy it together.

Yep, I wish I'd known about a lot sooner then I did. We would have bought into it a lot sooner. Frankly, we just bouth a re-sale at BWV to go along with VB. I can't understand why more don't buy into DVC, it's really wonderful!

We wish we bought sooner and we wish we could afford more. There is nothing we like to do more than relax and unwind at a DVC resort. We look forward to each trip on the plane ride home. No regrets. Keep reading this board and you'll see another reason why we want to keep going back. This board is like a community all in itself. People in here usually have a common bond and that is to try and make the next person's experience at DVC better than the last. If you're thinking of it, keep reading. There are a lot of people in here who have a lot to offer.

Folks,

Ah yes -- looks like the Canadians are going to take over DVC. Every shovel-load of snow from the 6-8" that covered my driveway this morning was a hard reminder as to why I want to be a part of DVC (and a good hint as to why DVC won't build a resort in southern Ontario.) As for our family I think the initial 150 points will be more than enough for us -- but perhaps as the DD4 grows up, we'll need more points. The thought that she will be still be able to enjoy our investment with her own children (and perhaps grandchildren) is amazing.

Indeed, that shovelling prompted my call to DVC from the comforts of my office and put me in touch with Bernard, our DVC guide. The info package he put together with his own two hands is in the mail and on its way to our very cold mailbox here. (it's about -18 Celsius outside as I type.)

:sunny: Send me sunshine!! :sunny:

I guess I do have a regret. We purchased VWL. I wish now we had gone re-sale and purchased HHI as our home resort. After seeing HHI, we fell in love with the place and could see us spending alot more time there than at WDW (my DW is not the big Disney fan I am). We both love the HHI atmosphere, plus DW loves the beach while I love playing golf. We plan on going to HHI but am concerned about not being able to get ressies at the 7 month window.
