Does anyone know when the next time the Magic will be in dry dock?? Thanks in advance!

The Magic is scheduled to leave for dry dock on September 20, 2003, and return to regular service on October 11, 2003.

It will not have the regular 7 day voyages that would have occurred on 9/20, 9/27, and 10/4.

The first cruise with paying guests after dry dock is scheduled for October 11, 2003.

Actually, there is a September 20, 2003 7-day Eastern trip. I have friends booked on it and am conisidering it myself. This is the last trip before the two-week drydock period. If you check the DCL cruise line for reservations, they do list this sailing date. For the following two weeks, there are no 7-day cruises, and they resume October 11.

Sorry about being so dumb, but what exactly is dry dock? We're sailing on October 25, 2003 and someone commented about how great it will be because the Magic will be fresh out of dry dock. Is this like a time for maintenance, repairs, updates, etc., or something different?

A dry dock is kind of like a lock... they sail the ship into a chamber and close the doors. Then they pump the water out so that the ship is out of water (it's held upright by supports). This is scheduled maintenance that allows for inspection and repairs to the hull. And since the ship is out of service for a few weeks, the cruise line usually takes the opportunity to do some remodeling/renovation projects that would cause too much passenger inconvenience if they did them while the ship was in service.

Dry dock allows the outside of the ship to be repaired and checked for any wear and tear. They even do things such as count every single piece of silverware on board the ship!! A very tedious and time consuming procedure, I am sure! I spoke to a server scheduled to do that during the last dry dock this past year.

We had origianlly booked the LAST eastern cruise for the Magic before her dry dock. When hubby heard this, he wanted to get her "fresh"....(must be a male thing, you know) Now we are going on her 1st eastern cruise after her dry dock.....Oct. 18th!;)

On our 5/25 cruise, we also heard that some stateroom renovations will be taking place prior to dry dock. They will supposedly be done five at a time so it doesn't cause a major disruption. I was glad to hear this, as I could see more wear and tear on the Magic than I have noticed on the Wonder. I'm sure those staterooms take a real beating! It must be a neverending battle to rehab them.
