Dropped SWA for AT

Well, Airtran dropped to $84 one-way for SWF (Newburgh) - MCO, so I ditched the $150 one-way airfare I had on SWA out of BDL and booked Airtran instead. The SWA flights were already booked on credit funds, so nothing lost, I'll just use it for a last minute Ding trip sometime in the future. Both Airtran or SWA may drop further through a sale or Ding, but I don't expect it would be much better than $79 or so, so I consider this a good buy.

If SWA continues to keep these higher rates than what they historically have, they had better watch out for the other discount airlines like Airtran, JetBlue, Frontier, etc. They will quickly start eating into their market share. Dings are great, and SWA's cancellation poilicy is great, but I don't like feeling beholden to SWA by always having credit funds I need to use.

Unfortunately, I did the exact opposite:rotfl:

waited too long for SW to release their crappy fares ($444 for 3 people 1 way:scared1: ); andthe $99 AT fares were gone for my dates:rolleyes1 .

really hoping for a ding.:wizard:

I did the exact same thing. Dropped SWA after 8+ trips in a row with them. AT ran a sale $59 each way a few days ago and I snatched it.

I feel after you gave me "waiting" hope that the boat is sinking!:rotfl:
I'm glad you bought great airfare! That's a good deal!

I still believe SWA will drop their rates too, but I just got tired of waiting and have wanted to try SWF since I heard they had direct service to FLL and MCO. Since I was flying into FLL first to visit relatives, it is worth trying since SWA doesn't have direct BDL-FLL. Its a really small airport (maybe 5-10 gates) with cheap parking at the terminal, so I figure the easy in/out and direct to FLL will make up for the the longer drive.

OP, I completely agree with you and am glad all worked out well. Wish I could "let my dollars do the walking" and book elsewhere, but Bradley is the most convenient location for us (Tweed is even better, but nothing flies direct non-stop to Orlando from there) and that means only SW or Delta. Maybe someday there will be more competition at Bradley.

Maybe the rumblings of Jetblue at Tweed will someday come true. That would be great.
