Well, Airtran dropped to $84 one-way for SWF (Newburgh) - MCO, so I ditched the $150 one-way airfare I had on SWA out of BDL and booked Airtran instead. The SWA flights were already booked on credit funds, so nothing lost, I'll just use it for a last minute Ding trip sometime in the future. Both Airtran or SWA may drop further through a sale or Ding, but I don't expect it would be much better than $79 or so, so I consider this a good buy.
If SWA continues to keep these higher rates than what they historically have, they had better watch out for the other discount airlines like Airtran, JetBlue, Frontier, etc. They will quickly start eating into their market share. Dings are great, and SWA's cancellation poilicy is great, but I don't like feeling beholden to SWA by always having credit funds I need to use.
