This reminds me when my DD was 12 years old and wearing a shirt with Winnie-the-Pooh on it. A cast member looked at her shirt and said, "Did you know you have pooh on your shirt?" She was quite embarrassed, but the rest of us laughed and thought it was very funny, especially her brother. :lmao:

Your writing is wonderful!!! KathyRN told me about your trip report so I spent last night reading all of it, lol. My b/f has Cerebral Palsy and is in wheelchair. Thank you so much for showing people how accessible WDW is and how life really is from a wheelchair.

You and your family are amazing. I am looking forward to reading more :surfweb: .

How did I miss your report all this time? You're a great writer! It's interesting to see WDW through your family's eyes!

Looking forward to the rest! :)

Christamae,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your trip report! I am having a wonderful time reading all of your details.

My only wish is everyone who has ever and will ever complain about anything related to their Disney trip would have to come here and read every page of your report. The amount of time, effort, love and dedication that went into your trip by each and every member of your family is amazing. Only a family filled with so much love could accomplish so much with such a great attitude!
I just wish everyone went to the World with the same love and attitude.

My youngest daughter (4 years) who is sitting beside me says that I need to send you a  and a :rotfl2: .

Best wishes for continued health, Christamae. I can't wait to read the rest of your trip report.

Jaymie

Thanks for all reading and those posting...

Backstage Gal: Wow! Thank you, thank you for passing on that suggestion!

tokyodisneydad: I wish we could've spent more time at AK...I hope your wife is doing better and the tests are coming back okay...You can view my pin collection at pinpics.com under eternaldisneyfan.

SueM in MN: AK has my favorite show-FOTLK. The theming is nice but I could've done without the authentic pavement...

Goofyluver: Thank you. Don't worry, we still have 5 more Disney days, the drive back (I hope people stay on board for that), a special visit in Oklahoma, and my closing emotional thoughts...I so wish that we could return! 3 new attractions have opened since we left. But at this point there isn't even the slightest possibility. So I feast on my memories and live vicariously on the memories of others...

KathyRN137: ;) -I do love PUSH...Thanks for your comments.

jlcd: Thanks. Sea World is fun if you have the time to go and not miss Disney.

Marion: Thanks for joining...Pin trading is a bit addictive ;)...Well, I'm not saying Dad has a secret identity...but he did wear an Incredibles hat every day :rolleyes1

mom2my3kids: Thank you for your kind comments...cute kids!

nuts4wdw: Thanks. :hippie:

DisneyJo: Those interactive trees and trash cans are funny. AK has great shows. I have loved Figment since my first visit. I have a stuffed Figment and several other pins. Don't worry, we still have 5 more Disney days, the drive back (I hope people stay on board for that), a special visit in Oklahoma, and my closing emotional thoughts...

Kimberly815:
Well, that makes sense since your trip report is the disboards best kept secret!
:goodvibes Thank you!! :cloud9:

iggbees: Welcome and thanks for joining. Thank you for your kind comments...I try to remember these two sayings: "A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes by Hugh Downs." and “Happiness does not depend on what happens outside of you but on what happens inside of you. It is measured by the spirit with which you meet the problems of life by Harold B. Lee.” The craziest bathroom story happens in the next installment...

majicintheair: Thank you and welcome to the journey. I'm glad you came out of lurkdom...We have hit some record highs-110 I think...but the normal Oklahoma (and Florida) summer still has us beat.

Wish2BinWDW: Thanks for your kind comments :) Maybe that CM was a PUSH operator...:scratchin

burly: Thanks! You've been here since the beginning and I always appreciate your posts...

IwastatWDWforamonth: Thanks for joining and your nice words...At Disney for a month-I am jealous.

WDW Poly Princess: :sunny: Thanks...Our eyes are a different perspective.

jaymie g: Always nice to see new readers. I was trying to find an appropriate smiley for such kind words...:lovestruc :goodvibes ...but I don't think there is one...Thank you!

Okay, I am off to photobucket to modify the size of my pictures and then to post the next installment.

Thank you for all your wonderful comments!

mrsksomeday: Thanks for your kind comments. :wizard: I assume you are honeymooning at Disney ;)

No honeymooning at Disney, no wedding for a while. With the CP and medical issues, it is not possible right now:sad2: . Someday hopefully, but now no. Ty for your wonderful trip report.

Today was originally going to be a rest day. But since we arrived a day late we gave up that plan. Grandma stayed at the house to visit her brother.

If you’ll recall, the day we left for Florida Grandma got a phone call from her brother, Bill, saying they had moved to Orlando. Grandma was amazed and thrilled. She had been yearning to see her brother. They were both getting older and Bill was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. This was a very special providence provided visit. We wanted to make sure that Grandma could freely talk to Bill and we had planned to go to Sea World-so we went.

Arriving about 12:00, we rushed to the Shamu ‘Believe’ show and grabbed seats. Then we rotated in and out of the bathroom while waiting for the show to start. It was a very hot day. Unlike AK, there were no fans. The air was horribly hot and stifling. I actually felt a bit ill. I put on an ice pack. I think being so hot detracted from my experience because looking back on the pictures the show looked a lot better than I remembered. The story is that the trainer always dreamed of working with whales and now his dream has come true. We should believe and follow our dreams.

At the end of the show, a child is chosen from the audience. The trainer gives the boy his special carved whale fin necklace as a symbol of chasing your dreams. The kid gives the sign for a trick with the whale and gets to feed and touch it…That would be an experience to remember.

After being taught to believe in our dreams-we headed off to Fusion. Now on my Make-A-Wish trip in 1997, this was an awesome show. One of Dad’s favorites. There were incredible stunts on jet skis and water skis with flips and fire and great moves. So we had a lot of anticipation… The show was a flop. There were maybe 2 or 3 small jumps. But mostly kite flying and dancing. I kept suggesting leaving the show but Dad wanted to stay-vainly hoping it would get better. A truly boring show and sore disappointment from the exciting stunt mania it once was.

Pictures that show the boringness:

The most exciting thing:

After this rather dull presentation, we headed to Blue Horizons. Now this was one show that I was really looking forward to. I was a bit discouraged with the wheelchair seating. The stadium awning had a steep downward slope. The wheelchair seats were about a foot above the regular seats so the ceiling slope made it difficult to see. Dad took most of the pictures. It was difficult to get pictures-dolphins jump much faster than whales…The storyline is a girl enters the magical world of sea and air. The pictures really don’t do the show justice. I loved all the dolphin and beluga whale tricks. The acrobatics in the show were great with dramatic moves and jumps into the water. My only complaint was the wheelchair seating.

Then it was off to the Hospitality House for lunch. On the way I took a breathing treatment on my wonderful, portable, silent Aeroneb. One little boy pointed at me and said,

“Mommy, is she smoking???”

Uh, no. This medicine helps my lungs not kills them…

The air conditioning felt wonderful!! There were very few areas to escape the heat and no misty fans in the stadiums to circulate the air. I think I used the most ice packs on this day…The sandwiches were big and I was informed, good. The bathroom had a nice big wheelchair stall.

Next stop was Odyssea. A whimsical adventure in an air-conditioned theatre. The directions to the wheelchair seating were a little confusing but we got there. It was a fun cirque de soleil type show. There was a controlled and flexible gymnast/contortionist who was a pearl, funny, bouncy sea coral, and hyper, ornery penguins all interfering in the mission. Good show.

A Shark encounter awaited.

This is the coolest exhibit. You are surrounded on all sides by a tank full of sharks. I had to remind myself that the glass was very thick and wouldn’t break (they had a special exhibit with a piece of the glass and how much pressure it could take).

100_0407-2.jpg

There were smaller, self paced exhibits with strange marine life. My favorite was the dragon fish.

Sadly our time at Sea World was swiftly approaching an end. We had promised Grandma that we would leave by 7:00. There were a couple other things I wanted to see… Clyde & Seamore Take Pirate Island, Sea Lions Tonight! , Pets Ahoy, and Shamu Rocks the World. We saw a Clyde and Seamore and Pets Ahoy show in San Diego and they are good. The Sea Lions tonight and Shamu Rocks the World were both night time shows so they were out. If you are planning on going it’s fun to feed the dolphins (I believe $5 for a few fish), see the Manatees, and Penguins. Seaworld.com has a very good and detailed accessibility guide that includes the location of companion bathrooms. We had focused on things not available at Sea World San Diego (went there the year before)…I kinda wish we could’ve spent another afternoon/evening at Sea World but it’s not worth missing the other Disney things we had to see. There is a Sea World San Diego with almost everything Orlando has…

We grabbed a few obligatory souvenirs and then headed back to the house.

I admit that I was very nervous. The last time I saw Uncle Bill and Aunt Corabell I was eight. I was still able to hobble around. Now here I was in a wheelchair full time, very contracted, tube fed, with a trach and ventilator…Uncle Bill had Alzheimer’s-would he even know who I was? My voice was quiet and different with my trach-would he be able to hear and understand me?

We entered a house full of laughter and visiting…Uncle Bill came over and wanted to know if I remembered him…I assured him I did. All evening he kept coming over and saying, “I sure am glad I got to see you again.” Between me and the family I was able to participate. But mostly listened. Thankfully, the Alzheimer’s hadn’t really affected Uncle Bill.

I know this visit made the trip for Grandma.

Next installment on Saturday July 14, MGM: "the rain, rain, rain came down, down, down," ventilator failure, crotchety cast member, but wonderful shows, many kind CMs, 'would you like to have this pin,' and more fun or a bipolar day

Another wonderful installment. My b/f and I have been talking about going to Sea World on one of our Disney trips. You just talked me into it, you twisted my arm, you are an amazing writer. Thank you so much for detailing how the wheelchair seating is. I know I can read about things in a disability guide, but there is nothing like reading about seating, space issues etc from a person that lives it daily.

I am in awe of you, I admire you and your family. Such loving wonderful people. I hope you are feeling good and having a great weekend.

hugs,

What a great job you're doing! So enjoying hearing about your trip.
