After this rather dull presentation, we headed to Blue Horizons. Now this was one show that I was really looking forward to. I was a bit discouraged with the wheelchair seating. The stadium awning had a steep downward slope. The wheelchair seats were about a foot above the regular seats so the ceiling slope made it difficult to see. Dad took most of the pictures. It was difficult to get pictures-dolphins jump much faster than whales…The storyline is a girl enters the magical world of sea and air. The pictures really don’t do the show justice. I loved all the dolphin and beluga whale tricks. The acrobatics in the show were great with dramatic moves and jumps into the water. My only complaint was the wheelchair seating.
Then it was off to the Hospitality House for lunch. On the way I took a breathing treatment on my wonderful, portable, silent Aeroneb. One little boy pointed at me and said,
“Mommy, is she smoking???”
Uh, no. This medicine helps my lungs not kills them…
The air conditioning felt wonderful!! There were very few areas to escape the heat and no misty fans in the stadiums to circulate the air. I think I used the most ice packs on this day…The sandwiches were big and I was informed, good. The bathroom had a nice big wheelchair stall.
Next stop was Odyssea. A whimsical adventure in an air-conditioned theatre. The directions to the wheelchair seating were a little confusing but we got there. It was a fun cirque de soleil type show. There was a controlled and flexible gymnast/contortionist who was a pearl, funny, bouncy sea coral, and hyper, ornery penguins all interfering in the mission. Good show.
A Shark encounter awaited.

Right before the tunnel-a model:
This is the coolest exhibit. You are surrounded on all sides by a tank full of sharks. I had to remind myself that the glass was very thick and wouldn’t break (they had a special exhibit with a piece of the glass and how much pressure it could take).
There were smaller, self paced exhibits with strange marine life. My favorite was the dragon fish.
Sadly our time at Sea World was swiftly approaching an end. We had promised Grandma that we would leave by 7:00. There were a couple other things I wanted to see… Clyde & Seamore Take Pirate Island, Sea Lions Tonight! , Pets Ahoy, and Shamu Rocks the World. We saw a Clyde and Seamore and Pets Ahoy show in San Diego and they are good. The Sea Lions tonight and Shamu Rocks the World were both night time shows so they were out. If you are planning on going it’s fun to feed the dolphins (I believe $5 for a few fish), see the Manatees, and Penguins. Seaworld.com has a very good and detailed accessibility guide that includes the location of companion bathrooms. We had focused on things not available at Sea World San Diego (went there the year before)…I kinda wish we could’ve spent another afternoon/evening at Sea World but it’s not worth missing the other Disney things we had to see. There is a Sea World San Diego with almost everything Orlando has…
We grabbed a few obligatory souvenirs and then headed back to the house.
I admit that I was very nervous. The last time I saw Uncle Bill and Aunt Corabell I was eight. I was still able to hobble around. Now here I was in a wheelchair full time, very contracted, tube fed, with a trach and ventilator…Uncle Bill had Alzheimer’s-would he even know who I was? My voice was quiet and different with my trach-would he be able to hear and understand me?
We entered a house full of laughter and visiting…Uncle Bill came over and wanted to know if I remembered him…I assured him I did. All evening he kept coming over and saying, “I sure am glad I got to see you again.” Between me and the family I was able to participate. But mostly listened. Thankfully, the Alzheimer’s hadn’t really affected Uncle Bill.
Uncle Bill:
Grandma, Aunt Corabell, and Patty (the granddaughter Bill and Corabell raised) visiting outside on the patio by the pool:
Aunt Corabell and Grandma having a laugh:
Uncle Bill, Patty, Larry (Bill & Corabell's son-he didn't visit, just dropped off & picked up), Grandma, Aunt Corabell
I know this visit made the trip for Grandma.
Next installment on Saturday July 14, MGM: "the rain, rain, rain came down, down, down," ventilator failure, crotchety cast member, but wonderful shows, many kind CMs, 'would you like to have this pin,' and more fun or a bipolar day
