Drinking while pregnant

I wonder if that same waitress feels it is her duty to lunge at smoking pregnant women to knock the cigarette out of their hand and to the ground?

that waitress was way out of line. It's not as if you were shooting up drugs at the table. Actually, when my mom was pregnant with me, she and my dad were visiting family in greece, and every night my mom would have a glass of wine. It's just how things are done there.
It's not the waitresses responsibility to tell you what you shoudl and should not do. Let her worry about her own life.
Sorry.. things like this just tick me off!!!!!!!!!!

The waitress was out of line in refusing to serve you alcohol, pregnant or not.

On the whole, drinking/smoking while pg or not - while I personally believe you should not - why even chance harming your baby? I know a lot of people do it and doctors say it's okay in moderation, but again, just not something I would take a chance on. It's your decision.

Please call that manager back tomorrow! I can't believe how that waitress made you feel - especailly with all those lovely pregnancy hormones! My aunt is a highly regarded head nurse at a surgery center - she (and my OB Docs) all told me that I could enjoy a glass of wine very once in a while - especially after the 1st trimester was over! Your waitress is clueless and rude, and the manager certainly wouldn't want that type of behavior to continue!

The waitress was out of line. Her job is to serve you, not refuse service because of her beliefs.

On the other hand, there have been mixed thoughts about drinking while pregnant. I say why risk it? Is it really too much to ask a person to go a whopping 9 months without drinking??

You're right that a little wine isn't going to harm you or the baby - especially in the 33rd week. But at this stage, spending much energy being aggravated by this kind of thing should be the least of your worries, IMO.

(I have seen a VERY prgnant woman getting SLOSHED in a local place and even though i was cringing and disgusted I kept my mouth shut and left!)


funny story :

During my thrid pregnancy I had my sister over one evening while DH was out...
then my bestr friend popped in - well between the two of them they managed to drink 7 or 8 Smirnoff Green Apple drinks.

I drank 1/3 of one because I LOVE the taste of them and knew that at that late date in my pregnancy it wouldn't do any harm to have a few sips.

well they left all their empties by the sink
and my mostly full bottle was on my bedside table.

DH came home and woke me up - VERY UPSET
he didn't realize they had been here and thought that I drank them all!

which is off because If I even drink at all now it is usually one or two not 8!

While I disagree with the waitress's actions, you might find that she was within her rights to refuse to serve anyone a drink. Bars and restaurants have an immense responsibility for those who leave their establishment after drinking. Why would they want to take a chance that something does go wrong with the pregnancy and then the mother comes back and sues them for serving her? You can thank our ridiculous litigious society for that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but she didn't ask for a drink, did she? She asked for an empty glass. I don't think she could sue the restaurant for bringing her an empty glass.

Count me in the group who had a little wine while pregnant. My OB also gave me Ambien at the end when I wasn't sleeping! All three kids are doing great!

Can you imagine the spin the restaurant would put on this? "Oh so sorry for refusing to serve a pregnant woman alcohol! We're so concerned about everybody's safety here -- we have to watch out for all our patrons, even if they don't care for their own well-being!"

(again, I don't think it's wrong to have a glass of wine or beer while pregnant, but just trying to look at what the restaurant might think in all this.)

Wow! What a rude waitress! No matter what her personal feelings are she never should have said something like that.

My personal belief, and this is just me, is that no amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy. I say this because I have adopted a child from Russia where Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is rampant and I have done MUCH, MUCH research into it. Thank God my 4yo does not have FAS, but all I have read scared the bejeesus out of me. I did not have 1 sip while I was pg with my twins, even when my friends made fun of me.

That said, my mom had a glass of wine every night while PG with me -- doctors orders! -- and I am fine. I just personally chose not to take the risk.

I am a 1st time dad and sitting by my 3 month old who has RSV.

I never thought a child could make a grown man tear up.

My nephew had RSV at 6 months and he is a healthy 7 year old now. Prayers that your son will be fine.

Count me in the club that had a "full" glass of wine once a week while soaking in the bath. Doctor's approval. It helped destress me from my stressful job and then my bed rest pregancies. Now, having said that I would never order while out if I was showing because I knew everyone would look at me strange and that would stress me out! I would probably drop it because at 33 weeks along I don't know if I'd have the energy to pursue it. Do what you think is best.
