Hello, all,

Can anyone tell me what it is like to stay near downtown disney? I got a good rate at the Holiday Inn there, and I am wondering if it will feel just like staying offsite?

Any tips, experiences welcomed!

Thanks,

Staying at DTD gives you more of an onsite feel as opposed to the other offsite hotels. You have the bus that takes you directly to the parks & you have DTD basically within walking distance. To me, the next best thing (compared to onsite) is DTD. Some of the hotels participate (or at least the did at one time) in the Early Entry & E-Night's. I know the policy has changed on this, I am not sure exactly which hotel particaptes in what ... maybe someone else here has more up dated info on that.....

The DD hotels are on disney property, but not owned and operated by Disney. However, the Holiday Inn is not on property and not a DD Disney hotel, which you probably already know. I've stayed at a DD hotel, and except for the short walk to the Marketplace, it does not have a disney feel, but as the PP said, it's the next best thing to staying at a Disney hotel. So to answer your question of the feeling of staying off-site at the Holiday Inn - I would have to say it will feel like staying at any hotel anywhere. But, that's not a bad thing because you will still be close to the Magic.

Holiday Inn took over the DTD Courtyard by Marriott effective 01/01/2004. ::yes::

We just returned from WDW and stayed at the Grovsner. It was wonderful and right across the street from the MarketPlace and Downtown Disney. We walked home every night even after being on our feet for 12 hours each day- very short walk! I'd highly recommend that particular Hotel. The Disney buses have regular pickups and dropoffs for no additional cost and you can get a tower room and see the Pleasure Island fireworks right from your window. They have a great internet special including Ultimate Park Hopper passes, Tower rooms, and a small Rebate.

It was my first trip and I'll probably never stay at an official WDW Hotel after this. The Restaurants, shopping, and Adult fun of Pleasure Island is just too good to have right out your front door.
