Double Stroller or Two singles (Long)?

I have found invaluable advice on these boards in the past and haven't posted too often recently, but am hoping you will be willing to share exeriences with me that can help me make my decision.....

I am not quite sure which stoller or strollers to take with us for our upcoming December visit.

A few details about our trip might be helpful to know up front. We are flying and will have a rental car (Minivan) for our stay and we are staying at WL.

Our infant car seat works with both a single stroller we have plus with our double (tandem).

We have two little boys, DS1 will be 21 months; DS2 will be 6 months on this trip.

I am struggling with which set up would work best on the trip. Am leaning towards the two individual ones over our bulky double.

We are not considering renting for the older child because I don't think he will be old enough to stay seated in it as he is active, but does sit happily in both our stroller options when using them at home. Whichever option we take from home...both boys can recline fully for naps also

My concern with our double is it is heavy and bulky and overall just not as user friendly as our two individual strollers, but at least with the double...one of us has empty hands at all times which would be very helpful if the little one gets fussy and wants to be held...easier to do if you aren't pushing a stroller too.

I guess we should consider taking a sling or front carrier as well..but that's another decision and will think about that after I solve my stroller decision.

Has anyone flown and chosen to bring their double over two singles? Would you please share your experiences or thoughts?

Thanks so much for your help!

We have twins and have done it both ways, though our first trip wasn't until they were 3 yrs old so we didn't have to deal with an infant. We ultimately liked having two strollers because it is so much easier to manuever a single around the World. DH and I like to each have one child because it seems, for us, to make it easier - each person deals with one. We did like taking our own, too, becuase if the child falls asleep you can still keep them in the stroller as your leaving the parks. We always get a car, too, because it makes things easier for us and you can get some groceries, etc... At the rental agency one person deals with the kids and the other packing the car, etc...(DH refers to himself as the "Pack Mule" on our trips!) The infant carrier is a good idea.

Have a great trip!

Forgot to say when we get to the airport we check the strollers on the plane as luggage. It's a little hectic but not a huge deal :headache: :hyper2: :headache: - after you do it once it gets easier! We had a whole system going! This month will be our first trip without any strollers (they're 6 and have outgrown the umbrella strollers, our favorites) but we may end up renting a single as my DD gets tired and sometimes cranky in the hot sun (won't enjoy forking over that $15/day, LOL).

Same here for us! We have 2 sets of twins, 3 years old and 8 years old. I have alway preferred 2 strollers over one.

We are driving but I actually considered stopping and buying a cheap one at Walmart and leaving it with the lucky winner. Walmart has two Costco strollers that are light weight w/ a basket, cup holder and reclines. One was $19.99 and the other $24.98. We are going to be at WDW for 10 days so it is cheaper than renting!

Now we are taking the travel trailer w/ the truck so I have room to haul! I did buy the $24.98 strollers though (2 of them!). I wanted something light weight, basket and cup holders and they have it all!

We have flown too but usually used the umbrellas.

I would probably not choose the double stroller no matter what. They are heavy and bulky.

We took a trip when our girls were that age and went with 2 lightweight singles and it served us VERY well. Each parent had one child, a light stroller that you can collapse with one hand and a bag that was a backpack (one was for cameras DH wanted to bring, the other was our diaper bag). If we had bought a double stroller on MK days if the kids were sleepy then one parent is trying to hold 2 sleepy kids while the other hefts the stroller. I always second guessed my decision until we went to Sea World with another family and they were miserable going in and out of the park and getting around because the stroller is too big and heavy.

We use our double, but it's super light and folds like an umbrella stroller. We have a Maclaren Daytripper Duo.

We have been mulling over the same issues - we have 2 year old twins, and our dd will have just turned 6 when we go in December. Looks like we need to get the 2 singles. Do any of you know if you can hook the Mac volos together to form a double?

We've traveled by air a couple of times with our two, now 3 and 19 mo.

We purchased a light weight double umbrella (Kolcraft), and it made getting through the airport a breeze. The first trip with this stroller, the kids were about 2 and 8 months, so kind of close to yours.

We have also traveled with them using one stroller and a Baby Bjorn or a stroller and a baby back pack. All methods were successful.

I would try to weigh how much other stuff you plan to lug through the airport and security.

Once at the park, you might be more comfortable with the stroller(s) though as, carring a sling all day would probably be pretty warm.

I don't know if this helps. We are going to bring the double as only one person will need to push.

Thanks for all the replies. We have decided to go with our two singles as having two strollers will make splitting up if we need to so much easier than taking a double.
