Hadley, congrats to Dave! Hope someone picks it up quickly! Sorry your friends are moving. Being in the military, we have had wonderful friends and then got separated by orders, it is sad. :sad2:

For our American soldiers who have served our country in the military, past and present....

Happy Veterans' Day!
Thank you for all you have done for us!!
:grouphug:

Yes, thank you from the bottom of my heart.:cloud9:

If you could get through on the phones and transfer a ressie that has the discount and OBC the answer will be a resounding yes. However, there were folks who were on hold for hours with the 08 repos. It was a mess that day. I guess if you really want to do one of these cruises then you need to try to book it right away and know that if it is popular the price will soar and you might just end up with a discount.

I also have heard that the Magic will stay in Florida for the summer of 09. I know that many folks want that to happen. She will be gone for two summers in a row. I hope to take my grandkids on a early August cruise in 09. Their mom feels school out ranks vacation. I just don't get it but she is their mom. Lois

The reservation would be made before we cruise to get the 10% and obc. So it would be booking and then transferring while cruising. But if the Magic stays in FL for 09, the point is moot! Thanks all for the information.:)

Hello everyone!

I had a few pages to catch up on.....

Hadley - congrats to Dave! That is awesome! You must be very proud!

Kimberly - Sorry for the Buckeye loss, my BIL is mourning with you.......at least you didn't have to suffer through it! Ditto on the Veteran's Day Thank you. At church on Sunday, the priest had all the Veterans stand up so we could applaud them. It was very touching!

Have a great night everyone!

Crissi

Hey all,
Thanks to many of you for the well wishes for David. I'm proud of him and I am sure eventually the company (who owns the patent of course) will start to use it. After all it will save them lots of $$ in the long run and they did spend plenty to get it through the process so one would think that means they want to do something with it. Either way, Dave got a bonus, and a lovely plaque for the wall and has the knowledge that he came up with an idea that the US Patent office says is totally original. That's pretty cool if you ask me.

Tammie, Brandie and Lois: Tahnks to all three of you for gobbling/basting me. You actually all did it the same day (ages ago) and every time I tried to put that darn turkey in my signature all I got was a box with an X in it. Today I do not think I did anything differently, but now it works:banana: I feel like such a part of the club now.

KImberly (and other football people) I am sorry about your teams' losses. I still prefer that yummy buckeye candy to the football team:laughing: I haven't made ANY in over a year (even after that lovely discussion we had a few months ago) but I am making a batch for poker night on the 30th. Yumm, I can't wait. Oh, and Kimberly did you ge tto meet the cake guy at the food show?

Okay, so I am not good with computer stuff at all (I totally lean on Dave there). I want to put all of our past trip stuff to the right of my sig pic to keep from having anything cutoff. There is obviously plenty of room. But I can only get one line of type over there at a time. Can any of you smart people tell me what I am doing incorrectly?

I did indeed get to see Duff Goldman from Charm City Cakes in Baltimore as well as his FoodNework show, Ace of Cakes. The autograph lines were INSANE!!! You literally had to line up at least 1.5 hours before their scheduled time to even have a chance to get an autograph. I did not get to stand in line for Duff and Geoff's (his sidekick) autograph. However, I did have tickets for his demo. I was terribly disappointed. All the two did was roll out fondant, covered 4 small round cakes (with little commentary related to decorating), and selected people from the audience to pipe their name on one of the cakes. Duff then went back and added whatever the 4 audience members wanted him to pipe on their cake. The rest of the time was Q&A. There certainly were some humorous moments, however. It was obvious that they didn't really take the time to plan anything. :sad1: However, that TOTALLY seems to fit his personality! :rotfl:

If there are others out there who like to watch him, he did say that next fall they will have a "story" book (one for leisurely reading) out. There is also a cartoon in the works. He's such an unconventional cake decorator. He uses blow torches, saws, drills, and many other tools that you just wouldn't consider using for cakes! Check out his Charm City Cakes website or he's on Thursdays at 10pmE/9pmC!

So here's a pic I took from our seats during the "demo":

I did get to shake hands with Alton Brown, however. What a very kind man. He reached out to shake everyone's hand as they approached him for autographs and introduced himself saying "Hi. I'm Alton." He was so pleasant!

I had given my camera to my friend, who at the same time was in line to see Giada De Laurentiis (because remember you had to be in line hours beforehand!). I'm sure most of you men know of Giada! :rolleyes1 I figured he would prefer to have a good picture of him with Giada than a pic of one of his culinary heroes, Alton. So I had to use my cell phone for my pic, therefore it's not the best quality. Here's the kicker...Giada would not pose for photographs. Her way of thinking was to get as many people through the line as possible, so no pauses for pictures. He did say she was very nice though. OH...and if you ever want an autograph from Giada, she will ONLY sign her cookbooks. No programs, paper, shirts, aprons, or even one of her DVDs that someone apparently tried to get her to sign.

So here's Tinkerbell :rotfl: with Alton:

You got to meet and shake hands with AB???!!!!!
My husband and I just love that guy!!!

Lucky you!!!:cool1: :cool1:

I did!!! He IS hands down the most knowledgable person on ANYTHING related to food or cooking, don't you think?

Oh yeah! My husband is so hooked on Iron Chefs. Sunday night he was almost giddy when I pulled it up on the satellite menu! He had forgotten it was on. And AB makes it so much fun with his comments. We love AB!!:yay:

We also really love Samantha Brown from Travel channel.
Can you imagine what their children would be like if those 2 ever got married???

Unfortunately, it's not possible, unless you create one "image" that shows the text with all your past trips. Then you could have the family pic and the text image side-by-side.

I played around with it by creating a .jpg image in PowerPoint. I just couldn't get it small enough on PhotoBucket. Any other ideas for Hadley out there?

MUST. SHOW. OFF. FIZZGIG!!!! Feel free to steal for yourself!

Hadley: :thumbsup2 to Dave! He's da bomb! Oh, and about your signature, delete the hidden returns from the side of the picture and between the text.

Kimberly: oooooOOOOOoooooh! Alton Brown! He was Fiona's first crush! We adore him, even more than Paula Deen.

I'm pretty slammed today, but I had to drop in to show off my Dark Crystal goodness.

*wave* *running back to work*

It's a good day when I actually get to *do* something in preparation for our cruise - today I booked our hotel for Friday night! :woohoo: Unfortunately we won't be able to get a jump on the festivities by going to WDW beforehand like so many of you lucky peeps - we'll be flying in from CA on Friday and staying overnight near the port. I've booked us at the Country Inn & Suites; they have a very liberal cancellation policy so I went ahead and made the reservation.

Woohoo, only 10½ more months to go!

Lucky you! I have been itching to book a room at PC also, but my husband really just wants to stay at Disney (where we will be anyway) and drive to the port. Too bad, I wanted to make reservations at PC now!

my daughter alex is now at the ripe old age of a 8 an auntie for the second time (makes me a grandma at the age of 42) her half sister had a bouncing baby boy this morning (she already has a beautiful 2 year old girl) WONDER how old they have to be before she will let me steal them to go disneying. lets hope for 2009 for my josey girl, maybe i can hide her in my suitcase and bring her with us next year. i love being a grandma, especially since its not my daughter so i can't be old right!

*chuckle* Congratulations!

Kim, my husband will be SO JEALOUS! I got him Alton's new book for our anniversary (and he got me a runners hydration pouch, we're so nerdy) and he calls me every day to tell me something new that he learned. Hehe. How awesome to meet him like that!

Hope everyone else is doing swimmingly! I have no news. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing ;)

Hopping on the Alton Brown Fan Club too! We love watching Alton...lots of good science tied into cooking. We just watched last night his turkey frying episode. Since my Dad is going to fry our turkey this year, it was good to see just what is involved, although now I"m afraid after all the fire warnings Alton gave! My Dad has fried turkeys before, so I will just have faith that he knows what he's doing. But it did make me nervous to see Alton's big fireball demonstration of the turkey done WRONG!

That's so neat you go to meet Alton & shake his hand. He sounds like a genuinely nice person as well!

So all this talk about the repo cruise reservations...when do they announce the dates & start taking reservations? Is it just pure luck of the draw to actually get a reservation on one of them?

Brandie--love the new Dark Crystal siggy:thumbsup2 We just added that flick to our Netflix queue ;ast week becasue Marika checked out a book abotu Henson and hte creature shop for mthe library and is fascinated (spurred on by The Muppet Show DVDs we've been watching). Also, thanks for hte advice on how I can fix my signature. Unfortuantely I can make neither heads nor tails of what you told me:sad2: mayeb it will make sense to David (he is at a meeting tonight--but tomrrow I can put him to work:laughing: )

Having no TV reception I am feeling so out of the loop on Alton B. But he does sound like a really nice guy-and hey anyone who includes science in their shows is a-okay by me:thumbsup2

Heather--2009 dats should start to be released in the next month. They sometimes only release the early part of hte year first. If you know you want a repo (if there is one) I think the best bet is to let your TA know beforehand so s/he can start trying t book as soon as available. The Panama Canal crusies did/do sell out ultra fast. But the transatlantic ones did not sell out at all (even at steep discoutns toward the end). So, much depends on what the repo is.

Deb--congrats on the new grandbaby! My mom was 43 when Marika was born (and she was a TRUE grandma). But, you are most assuredly NOT old;)

Erik--COME HOME!!! I miss your posts (foot stomping icon belongs here)
