If your hubby is a geek or a number cruncher, show him the spreadsheet of cruisers! It worked for my DH; he was so impressed by the number of people signed up he started asking questions and looking at excursions. :thumbsup2

Yep!! Don't forget some of the stats listed in post 577 (see signature for link), too. That's as up-to-date as I can give ya now!

He's not, he's also not incredibly sociable so it would probably scare him off, LOL. :rotfl: I had to promise him that if he comes along I won't make him do any meets, he wouldn't even consider it until I did. I'm hoping the DCL special will help... again. I suppose if he does come along most of you will probably never see him anyway, LOL. Well, maybe if you meet me first then see us together later you can wave. Or I'll post some pictures after we return. :rotfl:

I don't want to make him sound anti-social or deviant or anything, LOL. It's not that. He's just shy and meeting new people, especially in groups, make him anxious. I try to let him off the hook on vacation so he has a better time. If he knew I was going to make him meet people left and right he'd stress over it. ;)

The DCL website still lists parasailing as an option for excursions....I hope they don't really eliminated it becasue Jason and I were considering doing it one of the days at the Cay b/c we enjoyed it so much the last time we did it.

And hello to everyone, btw....I know that I haven't been posting much recently which is not like me (but I have been lurking and reading so as not to fall too far behind)...but I've been very busy...nothing is wrong and things are actually going remarkably well here...just very very busy :)

I'll get my head above water soon and start posting more, I promise!

Hey, Erik, I was in the Dragonboat races here at Denver this weekend, representing my company. I don't know if you were already aware of this, but the GLBT Fund financially sponsors a huge array of cultural events here in Denver. I made sure to go over to their booth at the Festival and thank the volunteers.

About the Dragonboat races... There were originally about 80 teams, and my team made it to the semi-finals! We did one race on Saturday and FIVE on Sunday, so I'm a bit sore and scorched today.

Ditto, same problem here! My hubby isn't anti-social, just scared of meeting people. :rotfl: He acquits himself well; he's just scared of the small talk.

On the April 2007 cruise, I was frequently running into other DIS'ers, and DH couldn't figure out how I knew all these people, even though I had talked to him after getting back from the Meet on the ship. :) I hope this time he'll be able to speak for himself.

Have a great day!
Brandie

Oh my.....my DH is the opposite of shy around new people - I just stick with him and everyone counts me in as the other half of the life of the party! :rotfl:

In truth, I am a little bit quieter in person than you would expect. But not much.

Two posts in one day! It's a record for me ;)

Tracey and Brandi, my DH is the same way! He actually seems anti-social when you first meet him, but he is just uncomfortable until he gets to know you - I keep telling him the way to "get to know you" is to talk to you :goodvibes He did go to one first "meet at the Mickey pool" with me - we had our DIS name tags and everything, but when we started meeting, he wouldn't talk to anyone. We later met up with some of our group at restaurants or the beach, and he was fine. I think one on one he doesn't feel required to meet any expectations? :confused3 I on the other hand have never met a stranger! Maybe we can arrange an accidental meet in the sports bar or something! ;)

I'm certain you would not know this here, but I'm an ultra introvert....until I get to know you, then I'm a simple introvert with some outgoing traits! I'm always the quiet observer and listener in a big bunch of people. So needless to say, I have a lot of extraverted friends, and we keep eachother happy by letting eachother play our our natural role! :lmao: So I can *somewhat* relate to your husband, Tracey.

Yet another beauty of this thread is that I sorta kinda know you guys already, so when the times comes in 425 days :rotfl: , I'll already be out of my shell and ready to live it up! :rotfl2:

Well I don't know about the rest of you...but once aboard I intend to climb into the stateroom closet and pull a blanket over myself and not emerge again until disembarkation!! :lmao: :lmao:

All you "introverts" aren't fooling me! All this talk of deck parties and DOD's :rotfl: :rotfl:

Actually in seriousness...Jason and I can both be pretty shy at first, too, if we don't feel like we know anyone....luckily we DO know a bunch of people on this cruise...so hopefully we'll be a bit more naturally out of our shells....and if any of us are feeling particularly shy....

...we'll just all rely on Rio to break the ice...because he was somehow born with no shy genes...just ask his mother or anyone who met him on the crossing cruise!! :) :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Hello All!!!

Erik is sooooo right, Rio does not have a shy gene. Perhaps this goes with also not having an embarrasment gene. There is a "how well do you know your family" game in Studio Sea. We were playing along from the audience trying to see how well we would have done. For the what was your most embarrassing moment question Marika would say (she confirmed this) any time her parents dress like they are from the 80s:lmao: Rio said his answer would be none, nothing really embarrasses him. After he said it, I realized he was right. I have never seen him embarrassed. Geez, I want that gene. I used to be terribly shy, but all the moving around we have done left me with two choices: have no friends, or force myself to learn how to be outgoing. I chose the latter. I think I do pretty well (but it IS an effort). I guess those who were on the TransAtlantic can say if I really do okay with that or not.

Hey Erik--we are 5 minutes into Xanadu right now! I will let you know how everyone likes it. And, we introduced Selina to HSM---she loves it! Great girl we have here.

Kimberly--is it really still 425 days???? Yuck. That is far too long.

jcemom--if hubby is shy, stress the nice, quiet adult areas like the pool and spa and Palos to him:)

Great to hear that you're enjoying Selina, and no doubt she's enjoying her experience as well!!

Yep...425 days! In fact, a co-worker noticed my lame ship drawing on my dry-marker calendar today that has "425 Days!!!" written below it. He just rolled his eyes of course. Hey...look at it as a positive! Adrienne started this thread at T-604, and we can nearly say "next month we can say the cruise is a year away, not OOOOOVER a year away". ;)

Hey Kimberly less than a year will be a GOOD feeling. We tend to book 8-10 months out so this long wait is driving me nuts.

Xanadu--Man this movie redefines cheesy and campy. It is fun for a Monday night but nothing to write home about--unless you are an 8 year old boy in which case it's "great" "totally fun fantasy" "don't you GET it?" So far the best part was when Sonny skates right at a brick wall with a painting of the Greek gods and goes right through it into Xanadu. "That must be where JK Rowling got the idea for platform 9 3/4":lmao: I just about fell over laughing when Rio said that.

Oh. I almost forgot to share.........

My friend who booked our cruise a couple of weeks ago told me that Cat 7 no longer had rooms to select from, so he paid for Cat 7 with a GTY. Good or bad, the ship is filling up! Of course it's always good if it's full of DISers! ;)

Well of COURSE Rio gets it!! He's mini-me!! I saw that movie for the first time when I was his age probably and I was so enamored with all those glowing girls coming to life out of a big mural and then dancing or skating off in a beam of light...GENIUS!! And that sequence when Olivia Newton John and the male lead go into that dream animation sequence...that reminded me of Sword in the Stone---the parts where they turn into animals!

:)

I keep thinking, "I'm a pregnancy away from getting on the ship for the first cruise!" :rotfl2: I wonder if the third trimester of waiting will be the same... :rotfl:

That "birth" will be painless, and you won't have to pay for it for umpteen years!!! :rotfl:

Hi all, Im looking at booking for this cruise. Dh has given me the go ahead if its in our price range, and so far be me just messing around the DCL site I have seen it IS in our price range, tmrw I am calling a few travel agents around town. I would love any suggestions as what to ask them. Being that this will be our 1st cruise as a family/ on Disney (last one was about a month ago just me and DH on a 3day RCCL booze cruise LOL) I also put in an estimate email to Dreams Unlimited. So we shall see what we come up with.

Anyone flying out of Ca to board the ship. WOuld love any tips on where to stay pre boarding the ship. Car rental etc. I have read so much here and there and tried to obsorb it all but well its hard to do LOL.

This would be a great vacation for DH as he will be coming home from his 4th tour of Iraq (he's a marine) in August 08, so this will be his time to relaxe along with the kids and my time to get to know him again LOL. We would like to make this a surprize for the kids, so Ill get more ideas on that later.

Ok Ive wrote enough Im excited that our "DREAM" might be coming true!
OH wait let me "introduce" myself Im Andrea aka Drea (no one ever says it correctly so Drea is better LOL and easier!
DH is Elbert (you will see me refering to him as either E, or Mac what his marines call him)
DS Phoenix aka P will be 10 at the time of sailing (btw it was really hard for me to figure out there ages ahead of time LOL well chalk it up to it being a long hard Monday!)
DS Justice aka J will be 6 at the time of sailing

ok night all this Cali girl is hitting the rack and will check in with you all tmrw.

:goodvibes Hello again, Drea! If I recall correctly, you poked your nose into this thread some time ago. How exciting that it's "almost" a done deal!! Congrats!

I'll try to help with a couple of your questions...

Booking
When speaking with the TA, just make sure you're comparing apples to apples in terms of cabin categories. I also fully believe that any on-board credit they give you is part of your cruise cost "discount", and that should be factored into the bottom-line cost.

Surprise!
Although you said you'll be seeking some suggestions for ways to surprise the kids at a later date, there has been a recent thread with some ideas. So if you didn't see it, check it out. No doubt there are more suggestions out there as well!

Pre-Cruise Logistics
Popular hotels mentioned on this board are Country Inn & Suites, Radisson, and Residence Inn. I'm currently looking into these myself as well as others in the area. I picked up a AAA Tour Book on Saturday to get a complete list of all the options in the Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach area as I plan to book that around the 1 year mark (most hotels allow you to book around a year prior).

As I've been reading about the hotels, I'm also learning about locations of the rental car companies like Avis, Budget, and Hertz. For example, one of them (sorry...I would have to dig for it and I'm running short in time right now) is right across the street from one of the hotels. So that would be convenient, no doubt!

Thank you!!
A huge thanks for the sacrifices that your family have been enduring to have DH in Iraq for all of us. My Goddaughters' father spent "only" one year away, so I was able to see many of the challenges that created for all of them.

I'm sure others can provide some more insight and opinions and of course collectively we'll be helping one another as times to make "final" decisions get closer!

Looking forward to seeing you are official!!!! :woohoo:

welcome to Drea and family. And I would like to echo Kimberly in thanking your husband and you as the kids as well for all of the sacrifices you have made for our country. I noticed on the main board you were asking about the weather. It was mid to high 80s on the same cruise in Spetember of last year. If you go inland at all in Costa Maya you lose the sea breeze and it gets inot the nineties very quickly. As New Hampshirites that is sweltering--but being from Temecula you are probably a bit used to the heat and will enjoy it (it does make you want to jump into the water).

When we picked Selina up on Friday Marika and I had an ice cream at the airport diner while waiting for her plane. They had all kinds of flight humor painted on the walls. Here was one that brought a smile to me:
Plane travel is nature's way of making you look like your passport photo!

Happy Tuesday everyone.

Drea, first off, I want to echo the thanks for your family's service. My mother is a Navy veteran and was ombudsman for her husband's ship while the USS Callahan was deployed, so I personally appreciate the sacrifices you are all making. I licked a LOT of stamps for newsletters back then!

Secondly, my brother graduates from Marine Boot Camp in San Diego August 9th!!! We're about to have a Marine in the family, too. He's the first Marine; we have Navy and Army veterans already. Needless to say, we don't watch football when we're together! :)

Welcome to the boat!!!

Brandie
