Over $100 for a wristlet? That's nuts! You really have to wonder what people are thinking.


So I found another case of an actual handbag being somewhat different than what is pictured on the Disney Shopping site.


DL55 Bucket Bag:

I actually don't mind that the leather trim along the base is missing. It would just cover up more of the design anyway. But I wonder why so many discrepancies between what is pictured and the real deal?

They also show all the letter carriers with the leather trim along the pocket, but I think the ones folks are receiving now are the ones without the trim.

It seems like having the correct artwork on a shopping site would be a really good idea.

Great placement on your bag, btw! I love how Minnie and Mickey are front and center! I bet the ones in the photos on disneyshopping.com were samples and not what was finally agreed upon for final production. There are probably so many different departments that handle everything. The people who handle merchandise and licensing agreements and product development probably have minimal interaction with the people who take the photos of the products and post the product descriptions for the website. Just my speculation.

Is the DL55 bucket bag leather on the bottom (underside - part that sits on the table) of the bag? I have a non Disney Dooney similar to the DL55 bucket bag and mine not only has the leather band around the bottom but the underside of the bag is leather also. Not sure I like the look without the leather band but I do agree that not having the band on the DL55 bag is a plus since it allows more of the print to show. Maybe they added the medallion to make up for removing the band? Did the original DL55 styles purchased at DL have the medallions?

The bottom of the bucket bag is coated cotton fabric. There is a leather strip around the bottom, but it's super narrow:

I was going to wait until they got the totes in to decide which of the new styles I like best, but I couldn't resist the placement on this bucket bag. I might still end up exchanging it for the tote though. I wish they'd hurry up and get totes in already.

I'm just excited that they released new styles. I really love the DL55 pattern, but I have to have a bag that I can toss over my shoulder, so niether the original tote nor the messenger worked very well for me. But I think I'd be happy with either of the new styles. Maybe I should get one of each.

I got the feeling that the CM's at Vault 28 are not too thrilled about all the new handbag releases though. Between Harvey's bags and Dooney bags the store is being over-run. Pretty soon they won't have room for anything else.

Thanks for the photo of the bag bottom! I like the DL55 pattern but have never been to DL so I think I would feel like a "fraud" carrying a DL55 bag.

Yep, thankfully Santa has been quite understanding of the Dooney obsession.


OK, I was doing some virtual window shopping since I haven't been able to see the new bags in person yet. The Colette and the DL55 tote sure look a lot alike to me. The measurements list them as exactly the same width, with the DL bag being 2" shorter and 1" deeper. But the Colette is $200 and the DL tote is $270.
What's up with that?
Maybe I'll have to wait and hope for them to eventually go on sale.

I am new here, never thought I'd actually have one of these bags. I am a jeans and t-shirt carpool driving mom, not one to wear or own nice things, but while at Disney my DH and I were pretending while waiting for the kids to get off a ride "if we could afford it, which purse would I choose" and he surprised me with he'd been saving to buy me one. Anyway, here is my question. Mine was shipped home and came today. It is not the purse I picked out, I know it isn't. Mickey and Minnie aren't on it at all, I mean, they are, but they are always cut off. There isn't a full photo of either of them. (I got the one with the castle, and the characters and the ballons and stuff on it.) Anyway, I remember liking the one I had cause Mickey and Minnie were both on the back of the purse. I remember thinking I wish it was the front but liked that they were both on it. So, I don't know what to do.

This is a once in a lifetime gift for me. I have been thinking about it all day. I am telling myself people are starving tonight, people are freezing in our foot and a half of snow with no homes, if this is the least of my issues stop complaning, but I can't stop thinking that I want one with Mickey and Minnie on it.

I know if I had ordered it I wouoldn't have gotten to pick, but it's still bugging me. If I call are they going to think I am a spoiled brat? Also, do the Disney Stores carry it? There is one about an hour and a half from here but we could make the road trip to exchange it if they carry them.

Don't get me wrong, I love it, and love that my DH was secrety saving to get it for me cause I would have never, ever got it for myself, but no Mickey or Minnie?

What a wonderful present From reading your post, I am understanding that you ordered it from disneystore.com? Unfortunately, when you order from them you are not guaranteed an exact placement. The local disney stores do not sell these purses. Perhaps you could return it (if possible) and try buying one from ebay where you get to see the exact purse and character placement you will be receiving. Some of the purses selling lately have been at a great price. Sorry I couldn't offer more help. But, I honestly understand how important character placement is on these disney dooney purses.

I would even ask to have a picture e-mailed to approve it. I would tell them they ruined your dream present.

I know exactly how you feel about thing there are more important things to worry about, but the fact of the matter is that your husband gave you a very sweet gift that was not cheap and it had a lot of emotion attached to it. It was not a small decision, like picking out a candy bar.

Disney let you down and did not send you what you bought. It is like picking out a shirt and being mailed a hat. What you pick out is what you should get in the mail or they should not offer free shipping.

I wanted this bag, but it sold out so quickly and then I never saw it reappear. Did it reappear at some time? I looked for it last week in the park and Downtown Disney, but no luck.

Today I had to call Disney because they sent me a Mickey mug instead of Minnie, so I figured I might as well ask about the heart hang tag on the balloon bags since I also bought a few and no heart. I emailed them last week and got the response that their looking into it, but today when I talked to the CM she was telling me they did not come with the balloon bags I explained to her that they were in the picture and she was certain they came with no heart. She said she would call me back if she found anything out I'll believe it when I get a call.

I don't think you are spoiled. Your husband did a very special thing. He saved up to get you this surprise. If you had known when you took Disney offer of free shipping that you may not get the bag you thought you were buying, you may not have taken the free shipping. So I agree with calling them, be nice but firm as others have said. You should have gotten the bag you picked out and Disney shouldn't be switching things up.

I'm all about choosing a bag with placement that speaks to me, so I definitely understand your disappointment. But I also know some people prefer to buy a bag that has never been handled. I've had CM's offer to get me a still wrapped bag from the back, even after I've spent ages trying to pick out the one with the best placement. Maybe that's what happened with yours?

Did it look like it was in the packaging from the factory? If so I bet a CM was just trying to be helpful by getting you one that was still new and never handled. I don't think you should feel bad about calling to see if they could possibly find you a bag that is closer to the one you originally picked out though.

Have you looked at any on e-bay? Maybe if you could find one that is similar to the one you picked out, and then get a picture to them, it might help? I don't know if that would work or not, just a thought.

I got my wonder tote today!! It is my Christmas gift from dh, but I couldn't stand not opening it now! It is really a nice looking bag. I agree with what others have posted.. call disney and explain the situation. Hoping you get the exact placement you want on your purse. While at disney I have been known to exchange the bags I have already bought because I found one that I like much better.
