Hello all. I know there are several BC-lovers-who-have-stayed-at-BWI here and hope to get that specialized opinion. We are thinking of moving to BWI to take advantage of free dining and for a couple other logistical reasons (I bought best value MYW tix from undercover tourist thinking I would upgrade to the actual days we need when we got on site but didnt think through that I won't be able to book FP+ ahead of time for those extra days. Oops.). It appears that FD will be very, very limited, if not excluded, at YC & BC our week.

So, anyhoo, for families who have stayed at both...my main question is: will we look at SAB across the lake and feel miserable that we aren't enjoying the fabulousness? I don't think rooms and location are that different, but my oldest is sad that we won't have the pool. Are there any other pros and cons from BC fan's perspective? I think BWI has come a long way in fixing their QS and mug situation which always deterred me before. We will be going to water parks for the first time and I hope that allays the disappointment a bit.

Feel free to message me...I realize cluttering this thread with BWI questions isn't cool but i trust you experts! :)

Howdy! I'm a BC lover who loves BWI also. They're our 2 favorite resorts! :thumbsup2

Both resorts are fabulous, and have their things that make them special. There's a very homey feel at BC that I love. I also love having the dining options at YC available to me. And that pool? Wowza. There's a very "vacationy" feel at BC and I love it!

For me, BWI feels a little more elegant, and upscale. The rooms are bright and airy, the lobby is very elegant, and I love strolling the Boardwalk and the dining options available to me there. I also think that water views there are the best. Now as for the pool, I'm not going to pretend that it's SAB, because it's not. BUT...it's my 2nd favorite pool at WDW. The slide actually trumps the SAB slide in my book. It's more exciting! The water at the BWI pool always feels refreshing...even in August! Their pool is just a happy place! I love being in it, and looking at the beautiful architecture of BWV surrounding it. Also, the view from the top of the slide of the Swan is killer.

In summation, don't worry about asking about other resorts on this thread. We're all very friendly  , and good luck with your decision. I think in choosing between BWI and BC, you really can't go wrong!

Oh, and Teena, that award of yours? Really? I mean really? Come on! Stop it! Stop doing great things! My Lord! What are we going to do with you? You're making the rest of us look bad!

I'm off to have a cocktail...and do unto others for a while.

Since we have APs we don't do Free Dining, but isn't one of the requirements that you purchase passes with the room? If not, I am sorry.

We like BWI a lot too. I would not mind a switch from BC if it would save money in the long run.

Yes, tickets must be purchased to get free dining. :). We would return our tickets to the re-seller for a small re-stocking fee. It would still save money, as crazy as it sounds. Thanks for the input! Glad you like BWI too.

So glad to read this, Scott! I showed my older DS an aerial view of the BWI slide and his immediate reaction was that it seemed like a more fun slide. I will tell him that has been confirmed! I agree with your assessments of both resorts. We always visit the BW frequently when we have been at BC or YC, always say how much we love the grounds and feel but just never can break away from SAB. I am a little excited, actually, that this might be the trip it happens.

I have a question for those who have done split stays between YC and BC:

We decided to stay at the YC on our arrival night because we got a really good rate for a GV room. Originally we were going to be at the Hyatt MCO. We will be landing around 10ish, and I figure it will be midnight or so before we get to the room. We won't be unpacking anything other than our overnight bag. The plan is to check out around 8 or so, and then head over to AK for the day. We would like to ge there as close to RD as we can without killing ourselves, and we have a 10:45 breakfast at Tusker House.

How do I get my luggage from YC to BC? Do I check out at YC and then walk over to BC and check in? We aren't expecting to get into our room until much later in the day. Will the YC take the luggage to keep at the BC bell services?

If we get too hot at AK, can we still swim if our room is not ready? How do we get our stuff?

If I check in on CL at the BC right after checking out at the YC, can I get coffee in the lounge?

I have done this, exactly! I did walk over and check in at the BC around 7:30 (had the same CM that I did the day at YC the day before, LOL). Checked out of YC after that. I believe that YC bell services would have been happy to transport our luggage but we opted to walk it over ourselves. We even made a pre-opening breakfast at Akershus after that. We came back, grabbed our suits from our bags and swam until our room was ready.

We weren't staying CL that trip but did another which was also a split stay. We checked into BC CL about 8 am and we were told to grab some breakfast and coffee.

Thanks! Sounds like it was pretty stress free, too. :)

I love BWI, BC and YC, and am currently changing my resort choice for the PHM every 15 minutes. (Also love Poly, and considering trying GF, so it's a real mess right now!)

Pools/slides: I do prefer the BWI slide because it's not enclosed and a ton of fun. It's also right there, so no need to cross the path and disappear on the other side of the pirate ship. I prefer SAB overall (I find it less crowded than Luna Park because there is so much more space at SAB.) As for quiet pools, I prefer the BWI quiet pool because it's entirely enclosed by the courtyard and the hot tub is super clean and in very good condition.

Dining: BC Marketplace is very convenient and has been far less hectic than the Boardwalk Bakery, but BB was under construction during our last visit, so things may have changed. Hurricane Hanna's offers far more than the bar at the Luna Park pool and the setting is more pleasant. SO happy that both BWI and BC offer self-serve refill mug stations - yay!

CL: I prefer the food at BC, but the lounge space at BWI is more comfortable with the high ceilings and long layout of the room.

Views: The water/boardwalk views at BWI are literally right on the water. I definitely prefer the view of BC/YC (with MK fireworks) from BWI over the view of BWI from BC/YC. Some don't like the close proximity to the Boardwalk, but I like it - most of the time, it's quiet with relaxing music. Just a few exceptions - like when the squeaky performer is out there.

Etc: I prefer the decor, music, lobby and theming at BC. But it's not all that different at BWI.

As for me, I still need to make a decision! :)

I heard through the grapevine that Teena has once again received the Presidential Volunteer Award for all of the service and time she spends helping out at Jeanne's school in Las Vegas !!!

party:

She was presented with this award by the resort manager, GSOs and several other managers. The award includes a letter and pin from President Obama and also a grant from the Walt Disney Company to Jeanne's school.

:woohoo:

Teena has received this recognition in the past, and there was a guest onsite who captured the moment in photos.

Here is a link to some pictures when Teena was presented by Disney execs with an award from President Obama in May 2011 for helping out so much at Jeanne's school:

Presidential Award, May 2011

You Rock, Teena!!!

Congratulations Teena! What an amazing thing you are doing! Just imagine how fantastic the world would be if every teacher had that kind of love and help...

Yay Teena!

I received one also this year for my countless (actually, I had to count them) hours volunteering on my kid's FB/cheer organization's board. My organization received $1,000 from the Walt Disney Company!

The WDC really is a great place to work!

Congratulations to you too! It is really wonderful to hear about that kind of recognition at WDC!

Good morning everyone :)
Doe anyone know if BC/YC offer a discount on 2nd room when booking 2 rooms? Thinking ahead to 2014 (and thinking wishfully most likely) and reckon if anyone knows the answer it's you guys :goodvibes

In the rooms when you watch TV?

I have updated the Be Our Guest list with the new guests welcomed by MickeyT in my absence.

I would appreciate it if everyone could take a moment to peek at the list to make sure I have your information listed correctly.

Post 15: Be Our Guest list

Thanks!

I guess I need to change our Be Our Guest list again! After military discounts came out yesterday, I had to upgrade to lagoon view (I know, what a bummer!). We also changed the first reservation to BWI from AoA since no discount available there. Another bummer, I mean 8 nights at an Epcot resort during F&W? Oh the horrors! So excited that military discounts were extended another year!

ETA: now it's time to go back and figure out lagoon view rooms and make myself at home at the BWI thread. Did I mention we moved our check in date back (eliminated one day, but oh well) so now I've had to refigure park days and change dining. It's like planning a new vacation and I kind of love it!

I don't know! This is the current listing I have for you- are the dates correct?
