DON'T CRY OR WE'LL RIDE DINOSAUR AGAIN! A Spring Break TR---Final Thoughts 5/5

Those animation pictures are so neat! And how great that your girls loved it so much! Maybe Rachel has a future as a Disney animator? I'm sure that could mean some perks for her family ;)

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Oh, I can't imagine trying to keep little ones happy during a 9 hour flight. I'll bet you were worn out by the end of the flight!

Sci-Fi would be a great place to relax and cool off on a warm, summer day. You definitely need to get that ADR made. I can't remember---when are you going during the summer?

Tell Miren thanks! That's sweet. :cutie: The girls will like hearing that!

We were absolutely worn out :faint: but it was all worth it. :thumbsup2

We are still finalizing our June dates because I keep adding days but as of right now they are June 21st-July 1st. :)

I am finally all caught up again :thumbsup2. How did ya'll like Sci-Fi? We have eaten there twice and it is pretty good. Dallas had one of those yummy milkshakes last year and he had to twist my arm to make me taste it :lmao:.

I have never done the Animation Academy either, but it looks like fun. I know Dale wouldn't be interested though. I think we may hit DHS our first day because we didn't get over there in September. The day we planned on going to DHS was the day we left to come home because Dallas had Swine flu . I really want to get back and see Fantasmic too. We haven't seen it in several years.

Thanks, Courtney! :)

Hmmmmm, I wouldn't be averse to some family perks..........................:rolleyes1

That sounds great :thumbsup2 ---Did I see your ticker correctly? Is it POP? It looks like a fun place. So will it be just the four of you, or are you going with the whole family again?

He had to twist your arm???????????????? :rotfl: Me too! :lmao:

Dana, I think Dallas would love the Animation Academy! The two of you will have to park Dale on a park bench with a Mickey head ice cream bar, and do the drawing class together! :thumbsup2

Oh wow, I wonder how many different characters they teach at the Animation Academy! We did it twice and did two different ones. You'll have to read my TR (once I start it...) to see who we drew. ;)

They rotate teachers every couple of sessions, and one of them told me that who you draw, depends on who's teaching the class. Each one of them has different specialties.

I can't wait to read your TR. You need to start it, soon! :)

Finally had a chance to get over here and get caught up. Loving it so far!

Thanks, Denise! Glad you've made it over here to catch up! :thumbsup2

We're still in school during your dates---in fact, it's the last week, exam week, so no missing for us. We'll be there May 22-29 and are staying at Beach Club. :woohoo:

My girls both loved the drawing class. I think it would be great to frame some of the better ones to hang in their rooms. :thumbsup2

Beach Club sounds heavenly right now. :cool1:

Framing the pictures would be a very special souvenir.

I'm up for doing the drawing any time we can get the guys to take over the girls for a bit. I imagine they would enjoy it, too. Drew has a bit of artistic talent, so his would probably look the best. Mine would look like a stick figure, and not a very good one.

I promise you that you do not need any artistic ability. I have none---I can't even draw an even circle! :rotfl: But somehow, after you draw all the shapes the instructor tells you to, your drawing resembles the real thing (or close).

You and Jill will really have to work out a way to let the guys watch the little girls for a short bit, while ya'll do the class. :thumbsup2

I second that! I can't draw a straight line to save my life but somehow my drawings in there come out pretty darn good. They take you step by step through...it's just amazing!

After returning to POR that evening, we decided to head to Downtown Disney to grab a bite for dinner. We took to boat from POR to DTD. It is a nice enough trip. I know a lot of people gush about how nice the boat is from POR to DTD—and it is nice not to have to take a bus somewhere. BUT……..how slow can one boat move? :confused3 I’m sitting there thinking, “OK, can you go just a little faster????” I guess I don’t have that “Slow down and smell the roses” sort of personality. :headache: I know, I know, I need to work on that.

Anyway, after arriving at DTD, we decided to give T-Rex a try. We did not have a reservation, but was given a wait time of about 30 minutes, which I thought wasn’t too bad. We walked over to the Lego Store, and let the younger kids (and some older ones, too!) play outside on the Lego tables. After about fifteen-twenty minutes, we walked back over toward T-Rex. I went to the hostess stand and checked to make sure we hadn’t missed our name being called, and was told no, but that they were actually about to call us. So we were sent in, and wound up sitting over near the bar area. I’m really not sure what “themed” area this is in.

The three younger kids (Rachel, Reese, and Meg) all ordered kid’s meals. My sister, Kelly, Elizabeth and I all decided to share two of the appetizers. We ordered a plate of nachos and the appetizer sampler. SORRY---but I didn’t take any pictures. What a bad DISer I am! :guilty:

I found the food to be just ok---If you like Rainforest Café (and I don’t particularly), then you’d probably like this place. I’d rather eat somewhere and have great tasting food for the money, rather than have dinosaurs roar at me intermittently through my meal. That’s just me---Different strokes for different folks!

After T-Rex, it was time to get lost in WOD for the next hour. I think I would love this store, if I could go by myself and didn’t have to keep up with anyone! But it makes me a nervous wreck the entire time I’m in there---and my kids have cell phones to where I can TRY to reach them (if they check their phones!) I can’t imagine even trying to shop and keep up with smaller children. :scared1:

Finally, we made our way to the place I’d been dreaming about, :cloud9: ever since I’d read about it here on the DIS! Yes, it was time for dessert----at Goofy’s Candy Company. We went in and proceeded to design our own treats. Of course, Rachel, in typical Rachel fashion, couldn’t order a rice krispy treat like Elizabeth and me. No, she had to order a $10 caramel apple for herself! Sometimes that girl is determined to just be different!

Anyway, our desserts were finished, and we left $22 poorer to head back to POR. We got back to the room, took our baths, and the kids snacked on their treats and used their drawing book to practice their artistry!

I'm with Rachel on the apple - yum!

I had read that T-Rex was very similar to Rainforest Cafe, I'm not a fan either, and thankfully my boys are past the age of thinking dinosaurs are cool, so I think I'm safe and won't ever have to eat there. :thumbsup2

LOVE WoD, I could shop in there for a long time, there is just so much to see!

Does the T-Rex even take reservations? I just remember when we ate at the Rainforest Cafe a couple years ago they don't take reservations. You just sort of have to go up there and put your name down even if that means waiting an hour.

I love WOD! I know I've lost my family in there a few times. :rotfl:

Unless they've changed things you can make reservations at RFC, you just can't do it through Disney Dining, you have to call them directly. It's been awhile, 2005, but I had ressies when we ate there.

I completely agree with you about the boat! Last year we stayed at POFQ and took the boat to and from DTD on the first night. It was nice and relaxing but it was soooo slow! In fact, on the way back we had to wait forever for the boat to show up. That was our last time on the boat! :lmao: That's why we primarily drive at Disney and don't take the buses - I hate having to wait for them, especially at the end of the day when you are so tired!

Sorry you weren't too wowed by T-Rex! I agree, the appetizer sampler isn't their best dish - my burger from last year was much tastier. I'll be sticking to that in the future!

That's because we eat our lunches every day in a middle school cafeteria! We already get the experience of "dinosaurs" roaring at us! :rotfl:

Those treats from Goofy's look delicious!!! Yum, yum, yum!

You have to eat in your cafeteria? That sounds like a punishment to me! We get duty-free lunch, so I high-tail it back to my room, shut the door, and hunker down with my PBJ and the DIS. :surfweb:

The snacks do look delicious!
The apple would be my choice, too, but it is so hard to pay ten bucks for one! Mine would have white chocolate and a million pecans or caramel and a millions pecans. Either one would be wonderful! :thumbsup2
