Don't appreciate WDW? Just go to Six Flags!

Thanks. I'm just really curious about this.

thought about taking the boys to Cedar Point this summer...but, seriously, $240 a night at the Breakers Hotel!?! No way! We got two nights at AKL for that price.

Being a Cedar Point Vet... There are MANY cheaper hotels on Route 250 that have better quality than those found on the Cedar Point Causway. Between the Turnpike and Route 2 on Route 250 you can find rooms (of decent quality) for about $50/night a peak time.

My DW and I stayed at the Radisson at the end of the Causeway. nice looking from the outside, but as with any hotel within 3 miles of Cedar Point, not so impressive on the inside.

I guess that is why we started venturing away from CP to get hotels and were plesantly surprised.

For $240/night, go online and book a KICKin' hotel room and the Great Bear/Wolf Lodge on Route 250... You WON'T be disappointed. My DW and I got a real good deal last august for $99/night online for that hotel. Loved every second of it.

Also the Mejiers right behind the Great Bear/Wolf Lodge offers discount tickets for those who don't have access otherwise.

Kings Island in Cincinnati is also big and colorful and lots of fun. Boy, it is expensive though. With parking and food it may cost more than WDW.

We just bought our tickets ($44 for a 2 day pass via AAA) and booked our 2 night hotel room for $87 total.

I will try to give a run down on what I find this weekend (4th of July weekend) given the crowds and holiday, I would hope that the Workers are in top form for this weekend.

Maybe I will have some pictures, if my DW takes her camera.

I am excited about going because this will be my First time there, I sure hope it isn't another SF because it is in the same state as the horrible former Six Flags Worlds of Adventure.

My kids wanted to play on the beach...I just couldn't believe that I've heard many people gripe about the cost of Disney resorts, yet look at what they are charging at CP! I don't think we're going to go. I may try to squeeze in one of those fall or Halloween weekends with my DS (NOT at Breakers though), but DH doesn't want to go, he says lines are always too long, lol. On the subject of lines, are there ANY times/days/weeks when Cedar Point lines aren't incredibly long? (I've never been there that they weren't very long...but maybe I've been going on the wrong days?)

Anyone who complains about disney food should try something at 6flags. nuff said.

The number of ill behaved teens at any amusement park is very high. It never ceases to amaze me what length these children will go to bring attention to themselves.

When I see this type of behavior at WDW, I often think to myself, "you don't deserve the opportunity to enjoy WDW if you want to act inappropriately" They would be better suited for the Six Flag parks.

I apologize for sounding snobby. But, some teens need to learn to appreciate things.

(desending from the soapbox now)

i have on more than one occasion, turned down or given away free admission tickets (won in various work or school events) to 6 flags (for us, in Jersey).

this place is a dirty trap of a place, with rude employees, no atmosphere, and guests who (for the most part) act like it's their first time out of the house. all this, for about the same price per day as Disney or Hershey Park....no thanks.

Hersey is no WDW, but it is usually pretty clean, has pretty good atmosphere, the employees are generally nice and seems to attract more families.

Can someone tell me what the Six Flags Magic Mountain in CA is like? My friend and I are going to DL for her bday and DL's 50th anniversary next Sept, and are both rollercoaster freaks, but leary about SFMM, so should we avoid it or what???

Thanks,

Jules

As long as this thread has become, it doesn't really need my two cents' worth, but DH and I were in Atlanta (he had a seminar there) and we visited my Aunt who lives south of the city. We also tried to do some of the "touristy" things and enjoyed some of them such as Stone Mountain.
We went to Six Flags more out of curiosity than anything, but were terribly disappointed. We walked all over trying to find things we'd enjoy. Seemed as if we were always walking uphill!!
Finally we agreed that it wasn't clean, wasn't fun, a lot of the attractions looked as if they needed maintenance, and yes, the food was terrible.
We are used to carnivals, block parties, county fairs, etc. But we've never paid so much for so little!! Haven't been to Kings Dominion since our sons were little (a long time ago) and we don't go to Hershey since his company downsized and stopped having their picnics there. We've had a lot of amusement park experience and we just don't go any more. Naturally going to WDW spoils you for most other destinations.
We aren't thrill ride junkies so we don't miss that part of it either. Hooray for WDW and I'd go there a hundred times before I'd go back to Six Flags (or I'd go there once......whatever!)

In a slight defence of SF Great America (just outside Chicago), this year they seem to be attempting to keep the park cleaner. They are also puting in six new smaller rides (non-roller coster or very small ones). This helps with families that have kids too short for the big rides and too big/old for the kiddie stuff. The staff seem a little better too. Also, the only rides that cost extra once inside the park are the go-karts, bungee jump/swing thing and the rock climbing wall.

Still miles apart from Disney, but they seem to be making the attempt, at least. I still only go because of the fantastic large roller costers. That's the one thing WDW and DL lack!

Another thing we dislike about Great Adventure - All the kiddie rides are together in one section of the park. At Disney or Hersheypark, there are rides for all ages scattered throughout the park. That's makes it a lot nicer for families. You can take turns doing a kiddie ride, a family ride and a grown-up ride.

disneysteve..... thats what I like about Great Adventure! I like being away from the rest of the park. It is mostly families in the kiddie section and I feel a little more secure about them being out of their stroller. I do agree with you that Hershey Park is nicer and alot nicer for families though. Just that long drive up the PA Turnpike is a killer!!!

Six Flags St. Louis is also old and rundown...........no reason to even go there even with a water park . I'd rather spend my money in WDW.:Pinkbounc

Yet you like the food court?

I agree with you EsmeraldaX. I mean, I can't say every place at DW has great food, but a lot of it is decent. Heck, I even like some of the counter services. My DH and I really liked the chicken strips at the Columbia Harbour House at MK, for instance.

I count on my hand that there is only a few rides that have pay get in the park but it not that many.

I happen to like Six Flags Over Georgia because that is only close park to me that have decent rides. The park is two hours away from me and i go every summer on a season pass.

If see a dirty park then go to Lake Winnie and the rides is aweful.. I to Lake Winnie on 2 for 1 Fridays because I don't it should charge 18.00 dollars to get in.

I know get ready to get flame I am not WDW biased either.

If won't to see expensive food prices have been to a baseball game lately.

Huh?

I think Kennywood in Pittsburgh is a great amusement park. I love the fries from the Potato Patch! It brings back great childhood memories.
DH and I used to live in VA Beach and we would go to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. That's a really pretty park, they actually have decent theming, too.

I really like Magic Mtn. It does not lend the same dirty feeling as the SF Marine World does, at least the last time I went which was quite a while ago. The rides are some of the best for roller coaster freaks like me and the atmosphere was nice. There is also a water park you can pay extra to go to and it is dh and my favorite in California. It may not be as huge as some but it is big enough and is clean and has a more comfortable feeling to it.

I looked online at the local news sites and couldn't find it. I'm usually pretty good at online searches too, but once again, nothing. I swear I didn't dream it LOL

LOL!!! Monster Plantation at 6Flags over Georgia is the smelliest thing in the world! HAHAHAHAHAHA I had forgotten about it until I read an earlier post. We go on it because my Dad remembers it from when he was a kid. If you've never been to six flags over Georgia... MP is this boat ride through a House of mold and mildew with animatronics that all talk at the same time, so you can't hear any of them. The animatronics also click really load everytime they move. I think some of them have been ran over by transfer trucks or beat with hammers. I do not see why that thing is still open. It trully is an experience though.. Just hold your nose :)

Reading about Six Flags New England makes me sad. Riverside Park was one of my favorite places to go when I was growing up in the 1970's. My step-brothers and sisters all worked there. I remember how proud I was the first time I went on the Rotor and the Loop!

But now I live in FL, and get to take my kids to WDW at least once a month! :Pinkbounc

FWIW, I think the counter service food at WDW is quite good. We had annual passes to Sea World last year, and, while we really liked Sea World, their food is just horrible :crazy2:. Sure, I expect park food to be expensive, and I don't expect it to be gourmet, but I do expect it to be edible:rolleyes:
