Don't appreciate WDW? Just go to Six Flags!

I live about 2- 2 1/2 hours north of 6 Flags over Georgia. Going there always makes me appreciate WDW even more.:teeth: It also makes me appreciate our local small amusement park more.:teeth:

I notice it the most when standing in lines. Disney has clean covered areas with fans and things to look at. We visited AK when there were no lines, and Dh made fun of me for stopping to check out the theming, lol!

We used to only visit Sea World when we went to Florida, and either it has gone down hill or I've started to compare it to Disney...the last time we were there two years ago, their bathrooms were dirty, the food service was horrendous, and we were there when it wasn't even busy???!

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is much dirtier than Disney. The last time we were there, you had trouble finding any food that was not chicken nuggets or hamburgers. Sea World in San Antonio is not much better.

I get irritated any time someone complains about the cost of WDW food. Have they never been to a theme park anywhere?!?!? At least at WDW, we have lots of choices for our dollar.

We went to a local theme park in New England a few weeks ago & had the same constant comparisons. Not many rides that we could ride as a family since all seem to be only for big kids or only for little kids. Wanted to leave mid day for a swim in the pool (obviously couldn't do that) and food was gross. I agree that lack of theming is a big problem these parks face & the scuzzy people just don't seem to be as prevelant at WDW. I can't wait to return to Disney.

I remember when Great Adventure decided to make themselves a theme park. All they did was rename a bunch of rides and change the park map to give each section a name. Nothing else changed. It is totally different from the Disney concept of a theme park where the rides, shops and buildings are designed around the theme.

Your experience is exactly why we don't go to Six Flags any longer. There is just no comparison to WDW. We'll just save our theme park visits for the Mouse!!

That's funny because I thought it was just Six Flags New England that was bad. I've never been to any other 6 flags. Went once to Six Flags NE and will never go back. A man fell out of the Superman coaster in April and died at the 6f New England. I found it dirty, expensive, and the arcade games a rip-off. I'd rather stay closer to home and go to Canobie Lake Park, which is small but clean and well run. Of course nothing beats Disney :)

I work about 5 minutes from Canobie Lake Park. I won't go there anymore either. Blech. I've never been to Six Flags though. Guess I won't be making a trip there anytime soon.

I hate Six Flags with a passion!!! I live about 20 minutes from Six Flags of Georgia and I can't even tell you the last time I was there. WDW is so much cleaner. Have you ever noticed that you never see the trash cans being emptied at WDW? At Six Flags you have to see and smell the trash being carried off in the huge wheeled trash cans....YUCK!!! :scared:

My DD and I went to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. She earned a free pass as a reading reward. We just went in the evening from 6-10 pm since we live only 10 miles away.
My 8yr old is becoming sort of a Disney Snob she spent the whole time comparing it to WDW. I know it has something to do with the amount of Thrill Rides but I do not remember ever seeing the amazingly large number of rude and obnoxious teens at WDW that I saw at Six Flags last night. I am sure that WDW has them too but they must be a bit more spread out through the many Parks.
Six Flags makes me long for the theming and fun of Walt Disney World. :(

My family and I went to Six Flags Over Georgia two summers ago...I was almost frightened! It was absolutely disgusting and needed so much work!! And our fellow visitors...won't even get into it!

I have to stick up for Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. It is in no way comparable to Disney, but it is clean, eye-appealing, and they do train their employees. I only go every year or two, but it is always as nice as can be expected.

I also have to stick up for Sea World, San Antonio. We went for the first time a few weeks ago, and DH and I thought it to be the closest to Disney standards we've ever seen. We were all impressed.

Schlitterbahn Water Park in New Brunfels, TX...went there for the first time a few weeks ago too. DH just kept shaking his head and comparing it to Typhoon Lagoon!! He was grossed out completely!!

That said, WDW, here we come again next May...can't wait !!!!!

I have been to Six Flags Over Texas, Fiesta Texas, St. Louis, and Great America. All of them are more expensive and more stressful than WDW. But I am very careful to compare it to WDW out loud.

I would hate for some of these rude (Love to hear a 12 yo tell his mother to F off.), shirtless (Although forbidden at most parks, men and boys still go shirtless and women and girls wear too-small bikini tops.), chain smoking (Ever see a mother light a cigarette for her 11 yo daughter? I have.) families to figure out that WDW is affordable. Let them continue to think that $6 for a peice of cold pizza is a good deal.

We still go to Six Flags Over Texas every so often but never without coupons. And then never stay long enough for a meal. We eat lunch before we go and wait to eat dinner until we leave. We were going to go this week but last time I looked parts of the park were still under water.

I have to chime in, here. I truly love love love WDW, and dollar for dollar, I doubt there's anywhere that could compare. . .

But we've been to Cedar Point a number of times, and it truly is a lovely, lovely park. No, the theming isn't there, and yes, Breakers old section is pretty run down - but the new section is lovely, and hey, there's a beach! We stayed in one of the cottages on the Lake (Erie) once, and it was great!

So if you can't get to Florida, or want to try something new, I would heartily endorse a visit to Cedar Point, on the Lake!

ps - and Great Adventure in New Jersey is a blast when you go with your way cool sisters and nieces :teeth: :wave2: !!

I remember when my DH went to the Six Flags here in DC after he graduated college. He called me when the day was done and begged me to make the WDW trip come sooner to get the slime of Six Flags off of him. Apparently the hockey puck like $9 burger and fries and $5 soda was a bit rich for his blood. Throw into that large groups of wild teenagers involved in some wild mating dance involving minimal clothing and groping in public and he finally understood the magical appeal of Disney.

I live in Maryland, near 6 Flags America and I haven't been there in years! It's disgusting and run down. Save your $$ and go to WDW instead of 6 flags.

It bugs me when people say WDW admission is too high- 6 Flags is $40 (even more at New Jersey, I think) and doesn't even compare to WDW one bit. I wouldn't even go to 6 Flags if someone paid me. -Stephanie

Just went to Great Adventure (still can't call it Six Flags) on Monday with DD (6) & DM. Adult prices were $48.75. The only reason we went was DD got a free ticket for completing the St Jude's Math-A-Thon & the tix had to be used by today. Mom & I had a buy one/get one so we only paid for 1 ticket. It was worse than I remembered! The food was much more expensive & the people were downright nasty! I'm glad a prior poster had a good experience, but we didn't. We were only there about 3 hours & that included the safari! We left to do the outlets to stock up for our WDW trip!

I live 15 minutes from Six Flags New England (former Riverside). In 2002 our family decided to buy a season pass. Every time we went it was grimy and filthy - even though it was supposedly "renovated". On top of that, I did not feel entirely comfortable on the rides or coasters ... and the lines took forever ... and do you still have to pay to get their equivalent of a fastpass? Can not understand why some people go there for the week ... We decided after that to save our money for WDW.

We live about 45 minutes from Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. We have season passes because DD3 loves to go on the kiddie rides. Every trip DW and I comment that we are not in WDW anymore, the place is a dump! And the people that go there are somewhat undesirable! Yet we still go since it is a place for DD to have some fun.

People are always complaining about strollers getting in the way or hiiting their heels at WDW. It does not compare to being bumped and ran over by the many Step 2 and Little Tykes Wagons I saw at Six Flags.
I am not kidding, I saw one wagon that was pulling another wagon both filled w/ either stuff or kids.

I understand why wagons are not allowed at WDW, they are a hazard. :

I brought one of my sons to the 6 Flags in Maryland a couple years ago (he had a free ticket) and I have no desire to go back. It was dirty, the rides were not well kept, the water area was ery crowded, etc.

Last summer we went to Dorney Park in PA and enjoyed that a lot. Of course it;s not Disney, but we still had a very good time. It was small, but well kept with a very fun water area.

This summer we are going to go to Kennywood in Pittsburgh. We've never been before, but I've heard it was a nice park.

My Daughter took her brothers to Six Flags Great adventure in NJ two weeks ago, She said it was disgusting. There were rude and ignorant people all over. She said they were standing in line for 45 min to get on a coaster, when this group of people hopped the fence and cut to the front of the line. They got on the coaster and the worker locked them in their seats and then announced over the speaker " Sorry for the hold up but you can blame it on them" as he pointed to the line cutters, who were still locked in.
He then called security and they were thrown out of the park. Everyone was clapping when they were escorted out. :bounce: :Pinkbounc
